Use of the limitation
everything of a different color than the player is an obstacle. because the player can switch between 6 colors and leaves a colored trail behind, it's only able to pass through the trail of its current color, while all trails of other colors cannot be passed through

Cookies eaten
didn't have any but I'll get some next time just to answer this question

This is a super fun, super polished, super addictive puzzle game that makes great use of both the theme and the limitation!  My only constructive suggestion is to consider doing something to make it clear to the player that if you step on an arrow tile and it forces you onto a + or - tile, your color won't change; there were several times where I worked out the solution to a puzzle thinking that a tile would change my color, only to remember halfway through the execution of the puzzle that my color wouldn't change because I had just stepped on an arrow tile. Other than that, though, I thought this was a fantastic game!

thank you for playing and writing this detailed response (and finding this bug! good playtesting, me! definitely nothing would've gone wrong after rewriting the arrow tile code entirely!) definitely a thing for me to fix asap but I'm glad it apparently didn't completely ruin anything

Ah, so I thought it might have been a bug, but I didn't want to say that in case it was just me being bad at puzzles, haha.  I was able to work around the bug and solve the first few puzzles where it showed up (it definitely increased the challenge, haha), but I did get stuck and had to give up on one level because of it.  (I forget the level number, but I think the name was something like "Take a walk (in real life, too).")  But it definitely didn't ruin my enjoyment of the game, which I thoroughly enjoyed regardless!

Great work! The puzzle element to this game is simple but fun! I could definitely see this as a mobile game!

Developer

thank you! i don't have plans on mobile support in the *nearest* future, but i might look into it some time later

Nice game! Really good puzzle here, i enjoyed a lot, and it's really well presented the mechanics to the player. Nice job!

Developer

thanks for playing :D

it was a really fun puzzle game! simple but effective design, and i love when 'tutorial' text has some personality in it

a small suggestion as an anti-frustration mechanics: it would've been really nice if color-changing pluses would've actually colored in the color they recolor the player's control to: when there are a bunch of them in the same place, it's frustrating to remember which one would color your cursor in which way. i also don't think it "eases up" the game as you still need to solve the puzzle but it removes a lot of frustrating replays where you have the idea on how to solve the puzzle but you forget which one of the six plus signs in a single row recolors your cursor in which color

p.s. also, for some reason WASD worked perfectly for me, but arrows worked only right and left, not top and bottom ones.

overall, great job!

Developer

thanks for playing! there is no set color that a plus can recolor you to. you switch between red-orange-yellow-green-cyan-purple, so there's no way to color the pluses because what color it gives is based on the order you take the pluses if there are multiple

there are, in fact, colored pluses in the game that set your color to their own, but i haven't got to use them in a level yet, partly because i was running out of time

just looked into arrow controls - i've just accidentally assigned "down" to moving up haha, this will be fixed in the nearest update

Developer

fixed the keys and more, here are update logs https://mantevian.itch.io/glatiles/devlog/409759/update-11

I liked your game and enjoyed the time I spent playing it. keep up the good work!

Developer(+1)

thank you! I'm already working on updating the game and even a level editor :D

This game was pretty good! How your past actions with coloring tiles could block future actions when trying to finish a level was cool too!

Developer

thanks for playing!

Hello! Clever idea I liked to play your game.

Developer

thanks for playing!

This is a very clever and fun game! I completed all the levels and all of them were unique in different ways which is sometimes hard to do in a puzzle game. However I noticed that despite w, a, s, d keys work properly arrow keys don't (but sometimes they do). And also if you press two movement keys simultaneously you can move diagonally thus painting one cell instead of two, and I wonder if that was intentional or is it a bug?

Developer

thank you for playing! moving diagonally is a bug, I've already fixed it and will ship in the nearest update along with more QoL fixes :D

Developer

fixed, you can see the update changes here https://mantevian.itch.io/glatiles/devlog/409759/update-11

Not tested yet, but at first sight and as a funny coincidence, the concept reminds me of one of the games from the very recent final selection from GMTK Game Jam, Roll Of The Dice.

Developer

oh wow, I wasn't looking over the GMTK and I had no idea about that game! actually, I initially wanted to make the player switch between colors every move but decided it wouldn't make enough puzzles. what's different from Roll of the Dice is that in my version you'd always get the same pattern of 6 colors while in ROTD there were multiple choices depending on which sides of the dice you can land on

Very fun puzzle game! Loved the way you implemented the theme and limitation and the level design was top notch :)

Developer

thank you for your time and kind words :D

Fun puzzle mechanic, but I noticed if I tapped the directions fast enough it sometimes wouldn't paint in the color. I only used it to cheat a little bit, honest!

Developer

thanks for playing! I was made known of this bug a little too late for the submissions, will fix

Developer

fixed :D you can read the update logs here https://mantevian.itch.io/glatiles/devlog/409759/update-11

WOW your game is VERY COOL!!!! You can really upload it on steam!

Developer

thanks a lot! I think it still needs a lot of work before going on steam xd

Submitted(+1)

Really nice and simple puzzle game, I could 100% see this on steam if you polish it up more and make more levels! I enjoyed the game thoroughly and would love to see more from it!

And to answer level 14, its been good thank you :3

Developer

thank you for the kind words! I have a few more ideas that can go a long way with many many levels, you can follow me to not miss an update hehe :D will also try to learn how to create more polished experience, transitions etc for a more professional and well-rounded look

Pretty cool puzzle game! Takes a few tries to get through each level but it feels great to complete them!

Developer

thank you! it took me at least one time to remake some levels to balance the difficulty progression, glad it feels good to play
