I had a lot of fun with this one!  I appreciated that the platforms and background were black and white, because it made it super easy to see what could and could not be interacted with.  I agree with a few of the comments that other people have made about the sound effects, hit boxes, and player friction, but on the whole I thought this was a great game with a really cool concept!  Great job!

Concept is cool and the visuals are eye-catching! The control scheme is rather unusual but not too difficult to use. Great work!

Cool game, i love the artstyle of the game. Controls can be a bit tricky tho

Submitted

Good idea, the controls can be a bit confusing tho.

The sound does also feel a little bit annoying, but that might just be me.

Overall good work!

Cool concept. Just I think there are probably too many differents controls, may need simplify a bit.

Great pixel art, coherent palette + animation. One can see, that you took your time to concentrate on details and polishing instead of overloading your game with features. That was a good choice, your game is fun to play :-)

Hello! Great concept, great presentation.

Keep doing games!

Ooh, what a nice story! I love the implementation of the paintbrush as our weapon of choice for combatting foes of the artistic kind! The sound effects are adorable, the color palette soothing, and our evil alter ego is strangely endearing, ahaha~ I also loved the checkpoint system, it really drew my attention, hehe! ^^

I can't wait to see what we (our alter ego included) paint up next! ..After we get some sleep, of course!

Thanks for the kind words.

I've actually struggled with color palettes in the past, but tried a new color matching tool I found for this game. I'm glad to hear it helped.

I love the game--intuitive concept for sure. Easy to understand, cool level design. Boss level is very difficult, for sure. Good game!

Submitted

A little difficult but it's a very clever use the color with the limitation.

very cool but probably too hard for me lol

I like the concept but the keyboard bind i recommend to change it to z/spacebar to jump. Btw nice work!

Submitted

I like the idea! Keyboard controls not having Z to jump and X to attack threw me for a loop (damn you muscle memory!!!), There are a lot of small issues (player attack hitboxes are very small, bullets have strange hitboxes where standing on them is inconsistent, player friction is a bit too slippery) that sapped my enjoyment, but zipping through the levels is fun.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. It's been a while since I last made a 2D platformer so I need to get the feel dialed in.

Bullets have a quirk to them where the hitbox doesn't activate immediately. It was a quick fix so they wouldn't collide with whatever shot the bullet or a wall right away, but I should have made a better solution. They do have a slightly wider hitbox on top to make them easier to land on, but I guess that's were the slippery friction causes the most issues as well.

Nice idea and really pretty artwork. The concept was interesting and the boss fun to beat

fun game! one of my favorites so far. I was not a huge fan of the keyboard controls  but on the game pad it worked great!

Great game! Excellent dialogue system, a little difficult to platform in some instances, nonetheless,  you've done an amazing job!

Just tested on web, but it gets stuck on the "You have selected keyboard controls" screen and doesn't continue-- possible regression? Testing on Chrome for Windows.

Lmk if it gets fixed and I'll play today. Otherwise, I'll test on desktop when I get back to my computer later tonight.

(Haven't rated yet, none of this will affect my rating!)

I've had this problem before with unity games in Chrome. For me it usually works if I refresh the page, otherwise you can try another browser or the desktop version like you  said.

Let me know if you have any more problems getting it to run, and I'll help you troubleshoot it.

Alright, I was able to play it now on desktop. I love the art, especially the boss and the main character. Game feels juicy, thoughtful, good pacing, and thoroughly enjoyable. I liked the story element too, it frames the game's content well.

My one constructive piece of feedback was that the collisions felt a bit off. Not sure if it was a timing thing or whether they were offset from the sprites. (this did not affect my rating, just a constructive tidbit)

This was an incredible experience! 8.5/10. I was a bit confused in the boss battle but besides that I had fun.
