Very cool game! Here's my review and feedback.

I really like the idea of growing your ammo, it was very unexpected. :D

Fullscreen button does not seem to be enabled, and it is a bit confusing to have the same key for interact and jump (I interacted a few times when I did not want to).

I accidentally managed to cheese out the last boss by using the banana (?) ninja rope thing on it and was out of its reach while slowly dealing 0.5 damage to boss per hit.

I love the sounds and some surreal bits such as a "waypoint" being simply a car. :D

Nailing the silly tone! "Welcome to Coolsville" Loved that.

I felt the enemies had too much health for the simplicity of the combat system. Mouse wheel controls are difficult/impossible on a laptop trackpad; I would've loved alternative input like the number keys.

Developer

Oh shoot, I hadn't really considered the possibility of a trackpad, sorrey, that must've been incredibly inconvenient.

100/10!

This game has it all: Coolsville, farming, weaponized vegetables, heaven and hell??? I have to say that carrot grapple in the screenshot is pretty sick. I don't know what to say, this is like the level of silliness I aspire to :P

Also, I'm not ashamed to admit I cheesed the final boss by grappling back and forth above the hand to avoid attacks. Awesome boss design and I had a great time. Art and music are top notch!

Developer

This comment made me unreasonably happy, as what you described is exactly what I wanted to achieve :p

Thanks for playing! I'll give your game a try later

I was in a good mood too, that watermelon guy cracked me up XD

No regret. No remorse. No reason. Only madness :D

I specifically tried to kill everything by kicking the projectiles back to them. Worked like a charm. This game is very cool, great job!

One of the more unique games at this gamejam! ,At first i was bit confused about seed mechanic but after some time, it started to feel pretty good ! I like simplistic artstyle, complements quirkyness of the gameplay and story quite alot. Only flaw (at least for me) was the speed of the main character. Maybe a bit too sluggish ? Overall, neat game.

I actually laughed at this game, in a good way. The artstyle and the sound effects were fun and the game played very smoothly. The farming was a fun idea too, it just caused some unnecessary waiting when I was in the need of the grapple bananas. It took some time to realize that you can hit back the bosses projectiles, wasted all my carrots on the devil boss because of that. I also think that saving the game should save your items. The last boss didn't start before I killed myself with watermelons but otherwise the bosses were fun too.

Hey your game is SO addictive I love it it! Also original cool hybrid idea. I played from what I believe is start to finish, I beat the boss at hell's greenhouse is there anything I was meant to do after that? My only critique is if that is the case it didn't feel like it came to a proper ending, again please let me know cos I do not mind re-playing it. Art is funny and cute and dialogue too. Mechanics pretty easy to grasp which I like. I maybe would have liked some sort of dash or speed, and not so many things on one scroll wheel, bc it meant sometimes going through a lot till you had what you needed. Love the farming concept lots and lots of potential!

P.S: Any feedback on our game would be truly appreciated also, if you have the time! <3

Developer(+1)

Hi! Yeah, thanks for the kind words! There actually is a "proper" ending if you go up/right from the coolsville area, you don't need to bother to replay it though ^-^. I've had your team's game on my list for a while, ideally you'd provide a downloadable build in addition well as the web build, that works a lot better for me, but I'll play it on the web anyway if you don't get one out before the extended deadline.

Aw I see my bad I missed that. Cool! Yep we have uploaded a windows download now on the itch page, would love to see how you find it :D

Developer

I'll give it a go when I'm back home!

Fun game, the controls feel good and planting your weapons/upgrades is very creative it made me wait a bit for plants to grow but I think theres nothing to do in this aspect, easy to understand level design and cool dialogs.

The farming mechanic was very cool, the art was sick, and the soundtrack was top tier!

Why does the game end after killing god >:( I had 300 carrots left for the devil

Submitted(+1)

Wow. What a strong concept for a game. Harvesting crops that you can use to not only fight enemies, but platform around with? Very much sold on that.

The art style leaves a bit to be desired, and the world was a little easy to get lost in. That said, I'd very much like to see more come out of this idea. It's exciting - thanks so much for putting it together!

Weak Points:

The walk animations are bad configurated, the character did nor turn to the both sides properly, so sometimes you walk backwards and this is strange.

I found the art in this game a bit lazy, some things like the life bar and the tile set itself could be done better with a little more dedication.

The combat mechanics are too easy and therefore start to bring boredom to the game, since you know that you will defeat your enemies without a relevant challenge.

Strong points:

I liked the use of dialogue to give direction to the game and teach the player about its mechanics.

I also loved the checkpoint art.

The game fits very well within the Metroidvania genre.

Solid jam entry! I really like the creative way abilities are unlocked in this game. The visuals are varied and there are quite a few boss fights. The sound & visual effects are well done. I suggest giving carrots more generously to improve balance. Many of the boss fights seemed to rely on your having carrots. The bombs didn't seem to have much combat utility. I also suggest including a settings menu in-game. I accidentally left Fullscreen by hitting ESC a couple times and lost some progress when returning to the settings menu.

The theme and power-up are very special. I love that you need to grow your power-up. The parry system is pretty cool too.

Yo guys look it's the funni cheese man's gaem!

To be really honest, not sure if there are a lot of stuff to talk about here that we already didn't talk on the server, but there are somethings here I wanna say that I didn't realize on the demo I played a while ago.

First things first of course: The art is pretty charming and unique, the sound effects are also pretty satisfying and the music is also really nice, specially for a first attempt at that, so great job! The whole idea is also pretty creative as you might already be aware.

I'm also really thankfull for the keybinding option, since I despise jumping with space, so I immediatelly changed to W as soon as I realized there was no real "UP" input that would need it. (Altought, I wish that "UP" input was the one used to interact with stuff, it's mildly inconvenient to be interrupted when you're just trying to jump around lol. No big deal tho)

On the movement department the game is top-tier with the grapple banana and watermelon bomb jumps as you already might expect it, altought to be really honest, the consequence of those is that combat ended up pretty clunky sadly, specially with all the chaos that is when everything parries everything and it's impossible to tell wich projectiles are yours, from the enemy, or currently rogue (Damages both parties). The shovel itself also felt a little janky since it felt like some projectiles it parried would be parried again by it before leaving it's hitbox and just fly back into me, so it made the parry noise but still just damaged me anyway (Altought not sure if that's what actually happened, it's just a theory). Also, the fact the shovel hitbox is only the effect on the tip when you swing it feels kinda wrong, and that's something I didn't notice on the test build (But that's fine by just getting used to). There's also not enought feedback when you get hit or not tbh, specially since when that shovel parry bug happened I always took a good second to realize, plus the fact that you and the enemies does the same sound when taking damage, wich is a little confusing at times.

The bosses actually looked cool, both estetically and mechanically, but honestly I think they don't really fit the flow of combat of this game in specific tbh x)

It just felt like all of them only worked as a real fight with the shovel, because the melons can only really hit the flower guy, the carrots are just chaos since they make all projectiles go wild (wich can be fun tho, altought in this case they're a little too chaotic to dodge when it happens) and the banana is just a win button.

And now, this might be some skill issue on my part, but I also had some problem with getting used to the mouse scroll since there were too many different itens to use. I think a better approach to the inventory would be to separate the seeds from the plants, and also let the player pick the item they want directly from the number keys (EX: pressing "E" toggles seed or plant mode, and numbers 1, 2, 3, 4 are Shovel, carrot, melon, banana, respectively), if that makes sense.

Overall was still a fun time, but honestly I think that would've gotten way cooler if you focused less on combat in general tbh. It also didn't felt much like a metroidvania, since the plants doesn't really feel like actual upgrades (specially considering how there's absolutely no fanfare at all when you get them for the first time lol), and the only thing you really need to finish the game is a few melons since I'm pretty sure you can reach the final boss by just bomb jumping with them, despite me being too skill issued to do it on my run... speaking of wich:

Gaemplay vid!!!!

(You'll notice I restarted the game once because I think I died at the same time as the boss, so the game saved it as if I had defeated it, and I tought that was kinda cheating, so I'd advise to only save boss defeats after I've left the boss room lol, but that's just a personal nitpick anyway)

very creative theme and mechanics! guy moved a little slower than I would have liked but had a lot of fun exploring and seeing what each plant does. really liked the movement tech.
