Really loved the art, voice acting, and music on this one! That part was pretty polished, though I did get a repeating dialogue bug here and there.

The main game is a good start, but definitely feels like it could use another pass. Attacking isn't very satisfying right now, and I kind of just stumbled through the levels.

Despite my criticisms, I do think this is a good entry! With some game play updates it could easily be among the best!

I really liked the voice acting in this game. It sounded very professional. The art is pretty good, too.

The gameplay, however, was not so great. I didn't really understand what was going on, and the whole dashing-over-the-bottomless-pits mechaninc does not work well at all. It's not always clear where you need to dash, what you need to dash to, and is inconsistent in results. Sometimes I would fall in the middle of my dash, other times I would get to the intended destination. Hit detection is funny here, too: sometimes I could walk along the side of a pit, other times I would count as "falling in." Other issues include repeated text, some voice clips not being cut properly so I hear bits of the next clip, and walking next to a door whisking me away to the next room before I was ready or even aware it was going to happen.

You did say this is an alpha, so I understand the lack of polish. Perhaps with more development and polish it will become a more enjoyable experience. Since the art and voice acting are strong points, you may even consider dropping the "game" aspect altogether and go for a visual novel.

Wait is this still unfinished even now? Was it this team that reported to me about how the game might not be finished by the submission deadline? I kinda thought with ten days after the submission deadline your team might have finished it XD

When I saw the cover art and knowing that this is the game whose art  PixiTales drew, I was excited!

Didn't expect the game to be... so goofy

I think there is a huge... HUUUGE mismatch here between PixiTales's art and the rest of the game XD

With that amazing art I kinda expected the game to be somewhat serious :P

Anyway, really enjoyed PixiTales's arts. The story gave me some chuckles too. The game looks unpolished but I think this is a great start!

The Jam version is done yeah lol

Great start with the cool design, fun story, and nice music but bugs prevented me from being able to get very far. The day/night cycle felt a little tacked on and didn't exactly feel functional; I think if you go forward with this premise you should slow down the cycle a bit and have daytime be dedicated to puzzle solving and nighttime dedicated to combat.

Never mind, I went back and managed to get through. The combat was far too intense to handle, especially with how short ranged and clunky the melee attack was. The ranged attack wasn't much better either, being easily bonked aside by enemy projectiles. The camera was really disorienting, as well as the background (The red on red room was NOT pleasant). The dash mechanic was an odd decision. If the different dash lengths are intended to discourage dash spamming then there should be  a short cooldown before giving the player access to their long dash again. Ending cutscene was cool enough; I'd hope that a more complete version would have a bit more setup about who Laila is and her relationship with her friend, because as it is here it's all kind of dropped on the player's head at the end there.

Lots of bugs, and the bright walls of color kinda messed with my eyes, but I had fun! You even got voicework! I enjoyed the day/night cycle mechanics and whoever worked on the puzzle bit, give me more, please!

Thank you for playing! If there are any bugs in you want to report, just let me know. There will be more in the future!

got stuck in a wall ... died a few hundred times ... who is speaking ? can you add character names to the dialog ? did one person do all the voices ? What the heck  ?  Story seems good but the gameplay needs some work ... keep on working !

Developer

You can use the Reload Scene button in the pause menu if needed. That I will do that, thank you for playing!

Love the charm and characters design in this one. Also pretty cute voice acting as well. They are a lot of bug however and I feel the tile background is a bit too much on the eyes. I don't quite understand The whole changing from Magical to Normal as I when through the whole game without understand why it there. The Ball ricochet mechanic is neat but with all the bug it far from it best. But, I do really like the charm of the girls, the mascot, and the story!

What bugs did you encounter? Also the magical/normal forms is explained at the start of the gameplay, it's tied to the day and night cycle. Unless do you think I should change the tutorial in some way? Thank you for playing

So when I first saw this my immediate reaction was "oh, this is the one with the super good art!"

The intro segment was really, really good. I knew it would have amazing art, but I didn't realize it would also have voice acting as well. The writing is pretty good; I especially like that it managed to explain things reasonably well without feeling like a huge infodump. I still have some questions but I think it's better to avoid the risk of overwhelming players with information.

The character sprites do have some weird artifacts. Check your texture import settings- specifically non-power-of-two scaling and texture compression. Default DXT1/DXT5 compression butchers lineart, BC7 ("high quality") is better but I found I had to sometimes use uncompressed textures in my games.

The top-down gameplay was almost a letdown after that. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad, it's actually pretty good! The pixel art is nice, and it grew on me as I played, but I still prefer the animesque visual novel that preceded it. I found combat to be kind of janky and I still don't fully understand the day/night mechanic.

Also, one of the backgrounds is eye searing.

Unfortunately it's also really dragged down by bugs and glitches, more so than any of the other games I've played so far. The tilemap has artifacts and the edges sometimes pop in and out of existence, all of which detract from the look. I also haven't been able to complete the game. The first try I think the boss bugged out and disappeared from the game. The second try I ended up outside the map a few rooms in. The intro segment was not free of this either, sometimes repeating lines or flashing a blue screen.

I think if it was less buggy it would be one of my favourites in the jam. It still might be; I do really like it, but it's also a huge downer that I haven't been able to finish a playthrough.

EDIT: I see that an update has been pushed. I'll give it another shot when I get the chance.

So I played through the latest version. I didn't end up outside of the world, and I got a second dialogue scene instead of the bugged boss battle I'd got last time, which I assume is intended. There were still some issues with the first dialogue scene and the tilemap still pops in and out at the edges, though, and collision seemed to be a little more finicky this time.

The ending was kind of a disappointment though I understand why you chose to end it there given the scope of the game and the length of the jam. The ending dialogue only had voice acting up to about halfway for me- is this a bug, or is that all there is?

Developer

We didn't have time to record all of the lines for the last scene yeah.
