Only just got around to trying this one. Definitely some super nice pixel art, a great level of polish, and pretty tight controls. As others have said, all it's missing is more Kaiju stuff!

It was really nice, good choice of colors and I appreciate that there were so many versions of the gems even if they are interchangeable. Solid gameplay and visuals, though I would have liked the Kaiju to actually be a part of the game more than just shown at the end haha. I didn't get the impression I was going off to kill a giant space monster, maybe just a single drawing of the monster attached to the asteroid attacking your spaceship, then have a small crashed spaceship next to the player starting position and that would have been enough storytelling-wise to give the game context.

Personally I like to do things in a similar way to old games, like in Super Mario where all the context you need to know is that the princess was kidnapped and taken to a castle. You can see this used in a lot of older games. I used this principle in the game I submitted to this Jam (DragonSlide), just a short cutscene and that should be all the context you need. Imagine if Super Mario just started off with the first level with no story intro, if there were no princess Peach at the end of the game.. Without it the game wouldn't feel as complete, or rewarding to finish. Or how strange it would feel if we only found out that the reason Mario went on a murderous rampage assaulting multiple castles was at the end of the game when we rescue the princess.

TL:DR

Don't leave out an introduction to the game, it adds a lot!

Thank you for all the advice, it's great! Some story would have been a great idea, I definitely agree; without it the game does feel less complete. I would've liked to add some, but then time ran out - although, like you said, even a simple cutscene would've done, so I don't have much excuse! Thanks for the long comment though, I really appreciate it!

No worries! I understand that there wasn't enough time, it's often the story that is the part that gets cut when there is a lack of time, and you had a lot of polish for the rest of the game. I had to work basically nonstop (other than eating) from 10am to 6am haha to finish my game, and even then the intro cutscene was the last thing I made. But without it I think it wouldn't be nearly as good. If you haven't tried it out yet I'd appreciate it ;)

This was really good! I'm honestly surprised how nice this looks for a jam game, great work on that front, really knocked it out of the park! The gameplay was solid and I enjoyed it quite a bit! I would have liked to see a stronger use of the theme, but that's mostly because by the time I realized what/where the kaiju was, the game was over. Also, a gem counter would be really nice.

Great work, this one's something to be proud of.

Thank you! I would've loved to involve the monster a bit more, but of course time had to run out before that :P Thank you for the feedback though!

Super solid platformer. Great visuals and music too! Would play more of this if you ever expanded it!

This was a lot of fun, the controls felt good and the challenges felt fair. I liked the balance of sfx to music volumes. I had some trouble seeing the little walking enemies sometimes, they blended in a bit, but it was satisfying to jump on them. Really cool game!

Controls feel great and the game is well polished. Love the limited pallette, very stylish. I think with time to add more content, maybe continuing the backstory (the monster ask you for something before going away and sends you on a mission? Just throwing ideas here), it could become something akin to treasure adventure world. Well done!

Developer

Thanks! Some backstory is a good idea, it'd give some context to what's going on. Thank you for the idea!

Looks, sounds, and plays great! A gem counter during the game or maybe some extra enemy types would be nice, but that's about all I can think of for suggestions. Well done!
