Which theme was used for the game, and in what way?
We used both themes: Smurp (a little alien) is attacked by foreign aliens. After the raid, Smurps world looks very expired and he has to find his parents. Luckily his sister Feeny and Pompom, the huge beast are by his side.

Very interesting setting, story and crafting system, and the best part is, it all fits so well together. I like that the intro was in 2D but the actual game is in 3D, you don't see that in gamejams very often. Well done I'm interested to see where your game will go from there, I feel like you have something solid here :D

Incredible job! The story was fairly in depth and the mechanics were pretty well polished. The spooky atmosphere was great. Well done!

I liked a lot the light/shadow and the warfog, the weapon craft was interesting and the overall ambiance was great !

A great submission, keep going !

Loved the voice acting. Looked fun, loved how you can always access the keys

But like the rest i couldnt start the game because I couldn't figure out how to craft. I think i threw away my materials xD I did "feed to pompom"

I wanted to try again, but I had to sit through the whole cinematic. Would have loved a "skip" button xD

Developer

We thought somebody would feed their start weapons to pompom - we would have done it ;). Unfortunately, there was not enough time to prevent this. Skipping the intro is a good suggestion.

I think the story and the setting is great, sadly the game was hardly playable in the browser,as  it lagged really hard. (I think for 3D games you should always provide a downloadable version)
Also the combat needs player feedback for sure, you don't see wheather you hit something or you got hit, you don't know whats going on at all.

I couldn't play, as TheBlueBanana, I've arrived to main menu, close the inventory with "I", but then I couldn't move with WASD, it didn't move :(

Developer

I guess it's not intuitive, sorry. You have to craft your weapon first by dragging the handle and tip in the slots on the lower right. You can then press the craft button and start moving.

This game was very visually satisfying.  A good feeling of character progression, thanks to the sword building mechanic. The voice acting at the beginning was great, and kept me engaged with smurp's story.
It's an easy to pick up game with a simple, concise explanation of controls.
I found manoeuvring Pompom so he would not get stuck was sometimes annoying - perhaps  some sort of pathing is implemented for him. I would also suggest increasing his speed, and player's speed aswell, as it would make exploring more engaging.
Another suggestion would be to focus on the combat. Upon engaging the nocts, the music changes to an epic, combat theme, which I really liked, but the combat itself wasn't very exciting. It doesn't feel like I'm hitting anything, perahps because of the lack of animation.

Thanks! We had to make many decisions on what parts to focus on during the jam, because (as always) there was not enough time do do all the things on our list. In this case we are happy that crafting and characters are more or less finished, but leveldesign and fighting are parts, that still need work. Hit and Damage Feedback (visual + sounds) are on our todo list as well as better level design and different enemy types.

Its really a really cool game, I love Smurp , it`s a really nice concept, hope you keep working on the game

Developer

Thanks so much! For sure we will try our best :)

Really like the foundation here.

Super cool that the different swords make different special attacks! I didn't take damage from enemies energy/time running out (assume that just didn't make it into the game yet?).

Looking forward to seeing how this progresses.

Developer

Thank you! We are very happy to hear, that you liked the foundation, since that is what counts at the moment, there is still much to do. Damage frrom enemies should theoretically work - and there should be no timer. The UI top right would be carrying capacity of Pompom and an indicator how many spikes he has left (spikes could have lighten the way, but that mechanic didn't make it for now)

Really cute concept!  I love the game's art style and mechanics, just needs more general polish.

Developer

Thanks =) - We did our best, but the time wasn't enough for us to do more polishing before the deadline. We are glad that a big part of the core mechanic works. - But there is much more to come for sure.
