Hey there riggy2k3, I got your game for judging so here are some of my thoughts. Your presentation was great, and instantly had me worried about what was going to go wrong. Crawling out of that pile of bodies was horrifying, though it did make me wonder just how often people were being pushed into that pit since the corpses all looked pretty intact. Having each party member have a special skill and not being able to bring everyone at once was a cool idea (even if the logic didn't make sense, why wouldn't everyone stick together, have they never seen a horror movie?!) and made me think about who I needed for different areas.

The battles themselves felt bare bones (pardon the pun) since I mostly used the normal attack against all the skeletons. I wish the party members unique abilities played more of a part in battles, instead of just being used on the map. I left Emi alone and she was attacked in a cutscene, but when I went back to check on her she seemed fine so I'm not sure if that was a bug or just a warning about what could happen.

Overall this very much felt like a teaser, which isn't a bad thing but I wish there was a bit more to explore beyond the dirt passages. Seems like you'll be continuing with this project, so good luck!

Thanks for the great review, @hiddenone! Can't wait to keep working on this. :)

This game very much feels less like a game and more like an appetizer, which I guess is the point given that it's a demo. On the one hand, my appetite is very much ready, on the other hand it felt a little bit like it ended as soon as it started. I guess for a demo, though, that's very much a case of faint damnation!

The interplay of characters was interesting, the bouncing between them was neat, and the initial writing got me quite hooked. I'll be interested in seeing where this goes next!

Amazing opening with an intriging survival-death-game-esque plot. That pile of body really sold the creepy vibe! Interesting mechanic that each character has their unique item and ability to use.  Would love to see the combat fleshed out more in the future!

Thanks homie! I started yours at the end of a stream but I was passing out so I'll be playing it again this week to spend more time with it. I liked the setup so far and can't wait to see more. Thank you so much for playing!!

This game starts great, from the first minutes you want to know more! The atmosphere is surreal and fascinating and I really enjoyed the interactions between the different characters! The music and sound effects are also amazing. I think it's a game that has a lot of potential, I will follow the project with  great interest (I suggest you to customize some resources for the complete version, for the jam it's fine, it hasn't influenced my vote :) )!

Developer

Thank you my friend! Appreciate your comment. Looking to definitely add more and customize a lot in the next iteration... :)

Sorry, I really want to play this, and unzipped the rar file... but I don't see where to start the game? I understand it's rm 2003, which I think is why I'm confused?

Should be RPG_RT.exe!

Note: I was a tester for this game.

Riggy's games tend to prioritise atmosphere, sound design and GENTLE wandering. At least his past two games seem to suggest this. Two six-letter-long capitalised entries serving as a sort of wandering meditation, but doubling as an ode to retro games such as Sweet Home.

There's an entire dimension of GENTLE that is unfinished and unpolished (that I know is due to time restrictions), but the core is there for a great game to spring from. Even still, what is there is moody, a tone poem of creepy reverberations and mournful tunes.

The conspiracy-hinting intro leads to what is perhaps too easy of a convincing of a protagonist to jump into a hole? (The sense of urgency I didn't quite understand.) From there, you're confronted with the shock of being trapped in a pile of gore, and the claustrophobia of an enclosing space with barriers of nature being able to be broken through by each of your hero's specific abilities, represented by equipment they chose to bring with them... including a vacuum cleaner someone decided to bring along with them.

If anything, the setup is a little cartoonish, but the type of wandering that makes DELUGE such a unique experience is also here too. I feel like this has great potential to expand into something much greater, and it's an excellent peek into what may come.

Overall, I was glad to have helped test this project and iron out a few bugs here and there, and also provide some piano refrains.

Always grateful and appreciate your collaboration, feedback and support! Thank you for this fantastic review. Expect to be subjected to many iterations of this game to come. :)

Finally some top tier sound design and cutscene direction! I loved the introduction to this game. The atmosphere is mysterious and creepy, and I'm really intrigued with the story. I want to see what will come next. Well done!

At the present state, the gameplay is a bit simplistic. Maybe I missed something, but I preferred to run away from all battle, since fighting it's just a waste of resources. You gain EXP but you don't actually level up, right? I guess the gameplay mechanics will be deepened in the final game, so no problem.

I like that every character has their unique ability and, most of all, I really loved that the reserve party might be ambushed by enemies. So you have do decide to bring 3 characters to keep the reserves safe, or build a 4-members party to have access to all their abilities, but you leave behind a single character to deal with the ambushes. That's really cool.

Overall I liked this game a lot, but I think that you should add some more depth to the combat.

One of my favorite entries, so far!

Hey, thanks so much for the feedback! At present, a lot of stuff is barebones and there's no leveling up yet, so it's mostly a proof-of-concept in this iteration I think. The kindness of you and the rest of the IGMC thus far is great inspiration to continue working on this. :)

Great sound design is very important to me, and GENTLE doesn't let me down in that department. From the soft footsteps to the quiet, panning, pulsing bass that kicks things off - I'm all in on it.

Love the keyboard visual at the beginning highlighting the controls - and the fact it's in a 16:9 ratio, haven't seen that before in 2k3!

The writing has me wanting more content. Battles can be tough and can catch you out if you're not too careful - but I got there in the end! (: The limited field of view gives off the right spooky aesthetic, and the party-changing mechanic is pretty intuative. I have a terrible short-term memory so in terms of accessibility, I always appreciate keywords/phrases/points of interest being highlighted in a different colour - glad GENTLE does this often.

Mysterious and spooky with a great character perk system for escaping the dungeon!

Visuals and sound treated with the utmost care!

I'm a pansy and got a little squeamish playing, but from what I did play, you did a really good job! Very atmospheric and creepy!

Thanks so much for playing!

"Survive... Or something like that."

I really like how intuitive the party changing to use certain items based on the map event feels -- great work!

Another fantastic addition to the ever-expanding Riggy-verse. I'm so excited to see how this evolves as you keep working!
