Well made platformer!

GAMEPLAY
The platformer was good fun with functional controls, like a double jump that worked smooth. The story was also engaging. Maybe a warning in the dark world that some things can kill you would be helpful. I found out mostly by trial and error :)

ART STYLE / VISUALS
The graphics were visually very appealing. Well done!

AUDIO / SOUND DESIGN
The audio was well-executed, with a soundtrack and sound effects that complemented the game’s atmosphere effectively.

INNOVATION
The game did not introduce notable innovations but was solid in its execution of traditional platformer mechanics.

THEME
The theme was woven into story, check.

Overall a well-made solid platformer experience. Nice for a first try at godot also. I read you will do updates to finetune the rough edges. Like that. Keep it going 💪

Thanks so much!
And thanks for hosting this very fun Jam!

That's a good point about giving the player a heads up about the dangerous nature of the creatures in the dark world!
As the creators, we always have blind spots about how players will understand our games. We possess full knowledge, so cannot easily pretend to not know how all of the mechanics work or what they mean.
I have some ideas about how to inform the player without requiring the fatal 'trial and error' so I'll try adding something in an update soon.

There have been so many useful pieces of feedback we've gotten from the community that I have already implemented as changes just waiting to be able to push :)
One of the main focuses of this jam for me was to try to created a fully rounded project and I feel like we got pretty close!
I'm very proud of my small (large for a game jam) team and of what we created, so it feels like a no-brainer to make little tweaks here and there and turn it into the project we know it can be!

The game is very pretty, the character sprites and tile sprites were very cool, the sound was also very fitting. Overall, good job!

Submitted(+2)

Good entry, really cool graphics, love the pixel art and good sounds too

And interesting mechanic and history you have here, nice

Submitted(+2)

The pixel art is just incredible. I am speechless. Everything felt polished and the dialogues are well written. An awesome submission.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much!!
There will be an update soon that will fix the game from getting stuck during a cutscene. As you might have guessed, there is more story to be told!

Submitted(+2)

I liked the art, the terrain was a bit weird but I actually enjoyed the experience :)

Developer(+2)

Glad you enjoyed!
We're going to be updating the level layouts very soon, in case that's what you found weird about it.

Submitted(+2)

Great pixel art, the dialogs and plot of the game are well written, the rift is quite a creative mechanics and the controls felt good.

Developer(+2)

Much appreciated, thank you so much for playing!
Check back soon and the frozen cutscene issue will be fixed, allowing you to complete the whole game and enjoy the full story! 😅

Submitted(+2)

I really liked the art of the game, but one thing that bothered me was that once i started the level i didnt have an exit button or a way to restart the level if i made a mistake. but other than that the game was great.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying out the game!
Aside from a bug in the Level Select window and About pages not letting you use the back button, once you're playing the game, you should be able to hit the Esc key at any time! Doing so pulls up a pause menu that allows you to reset the level.
Not sure why that might not have been working for you. 🤔

Submitted(+1)

Oh i didnt realise that there was a pause menu i guess know it makes sense.

artwork is awesome, love the layered backgrounds they add a ton to the world and the color choices are really great. sound design is well done too, background music is a good listen. movement is clean and responsive which is essential in a platformer. some of the dimension shifting platform hijinks seemed a little unfair/unintuitive but i liked the mechanic overall. also really liked the dialogue text boxes, simple layout but nice to look at and effectively presented the text. theres a ton of polish throughout and i had a fun experience playing, nice entry!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, there is a lot of really good feedback we will be taking into account and making adjustments with.
Thank you so much for playing and sharing your experience!

Submitted(+2)

Fantastic art style. I love the visuals and the story. The only thing that felt weird to me was the fact that you can walk through the ground tiles, which looks kind of unintuitive.

Developer(+2)

For sure, that is a lesson I failed to teach properly in the first level. There will be many more tweaks made to ensure the player knows all of their options for how to interact with the game properly as they progress and smooth out any of it's rough edges.
Glad you liked the look and feel of it, thank you for the great feedback!

Also, I loved your game, it was a little masterclass in teaching the player about it's rules of play as they experience it.
If people reading this haven't tried it, go play it now! :D

This was really fun to play and the story was nice too, I especially love the art.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much, we really appreciate that!

Played and rated!

Loved the art style and audio, really impressive! The story and dialogue were also really nice. I managed to finish the game but not collecting all of the samples.

It was frustrating to fall as sometimes the first jump counted as double jump, and some platform hitbox were not working properly.

The art as I said looks fantastic great job for this! The only issue I encountered was at this rock platform, it looked like the path was blocked so I didn't know where to go for some time.

Overall great submission! :)

Developer(+1)

Thank you!
Yeah, there are a lot of tweaks coming soon, thanks to everyone's very insightful and constructive feedback!

Submitted(+2)

Yes, that felt personal, please don't xd. Also, IDK why but the game just froze after a cutscene and I could not keep playing. Graphics are cool, the level design is ok, I think it's too easy to fall because of the way the platforms work, and I think you should lower the falling speed to me the character easier to control.

Developer(+2)

Yeah, the frozen cutscene is a known bug that snuck into the submission build, it unfortunately prevents you from playing all of the levels. It will be fixed along with other improvements, as soon as the Game Jam voting concludes!
Thank you :)

Submitted(+2)

Everything in this game is fantastic, i really loved it, especially the color and the character Design!

Developer(+1)

We all really appreciate that, thank you so much!

Submitted(+2)

The artstyle and the music of this game were fantastic and it controlled crisp and nicely. Well done!

Developer(+2)

Thank you so much! Our lead artist did such an incredible job really bringing all of our visuals together, so proud of their hard work and of all of the art put in by the team. This was my first attempt at composing music ever, so I've been quite shocked at how much people really seem to enjoy it.

So glad you enjoyed and appreciated our hard work! :3

Submitted(+2)

Love the art style of this one.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I'm very proud of the artists that worked on this and so thankful for the hard working art lead that made it all so cohesive!

Submitted(+2)

Nice feeling jump mechanics! I blitzed through the game cause each time I saw a dark portal I thought it would take me back to the light world, cause in the light world the “light portal” brought you to the dark world… eventually figured out what I had missed and went back and tried to finish the collectibles which was fun. Really great art, impressive entry overall :)

Developer(+1)

Ah, that's a great point about the visual feedback of the portal visuals. I think that makes a lot of sense and I feel it would be worth it to tweak the artwork so that is more clear. Thank you for your great feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed it! :)

(+2)

Really fun concept and enjoyable exploration. Reminiscent of LoZ Link to the Past, Oracle games, etc. Movement and traversal of rifts to backtrack into previously inaccessible areas is satisfying. Artwork and music is great too!

Developer(+2)

Thanks so much Nidht! So happy you enjoyed the mechanics and that it invoked the qualities of such great titles :D

Submitted(+2)

Liked and loved the game art and visuals.

It first well into the theme.

Hope you'll check out my game as well.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much! I'll definitely be checking your game out after work.
