Game Description
an abstract strategy counting game, created for godot wild jam #43

How does your game tie into the theme?
there is a weird contraption in front of you. two conveyor belts going towards the center. and these tokens, they seem to.. combine? you have no idea where you are, why you're here, or what's going on, and yet, somehow, you have the feeling you should try and combine to 43!

Neat concept and execution! Liked the presentation of the conveyor system with the plug. The gameplay is nice, with the player having to do some speed math! Realized after a while that you had included sub-totals there, thanks for that :) Might have liked a few more seconds before the conveyor moved each time, but the current speed made it exciting! Must say it took me a while to figure out a strategy. It was certainly satisfying to figure it out. Well done there! The only drawback maybe is that the opponent has to skip sometime, for you to win. If you decide to never skip your turn, then you can never lose, if I understand correctly. I think with some changes in the game (I don’t know what right now. Just as an example: renew the dice only after 4 rounds, that way you compulsorily have to skip atleast one turn.) if you manage to remove this no-lose strategy the game would become a lot more interesting. Won two rounds for 12 points total. Nice use of the wildcard :) Good game overall!

Also really cool overall for a first jam!

Developer

thank you for that valuable feedback!

i ran out of time, but had intended to add difficulty levels, with an easier mode with a longer timer, and an impossible mode with a very short timer and no sums displayed). it would technically be possible to play a token every turn, and likely win points when they would randomly combine to 43, but that wouldn't be much fun so i sort of assumed a player wouldn't do that. definitely room for improvement, and renewing your "hand" only after x turns is an interesting idea for sure!

thanks for playing and glad you enjoyed it a bit! :)

Hi,
This concept is orignal, but the music is so loud... You need a chill music for help player to stay focus.

Out of context this music is cool <3

I imagine some sound for each turn when the conveyor roll, smooth sound, not loud, just mecanic and short.

Good game :) Thanks for fun.

i was excited to make my own music and sound effects with a tracker (which i had never used before) but that whole audio side of things definitely did not receive as much attention as it could have! thank you for that feedback!

j'ai vu ailleurs que tu as commenté en français, alors je prends la peine de me répéter : merci pour la critique constructive! :)

i had no idea what was going on :) but hey, it looks pretty and works!

at some point i realized i had to count, but it still felt very random as to what would happen 5 turns later in the middle. didn’t feel like i had much agency over the result. but maybe i just don’t get it :D

Developer(+1)

the general feedback feels really aligned with yours, hehe! thanks for giving it a try! :D

I've never seen anything quite like this. I was going into it with eagerness to find a strategy, then realized: "damn, that's a lot of numbers to add." I wish I had a second brain to help me with adding the other belt's numbers. The graphics and sound was great, and I liked the polished up itch page.

Developer(+1)

just by curiosity and to better assess the game's difficulty: had you figured that the small numbers under each conveyor belt was the sum of tokens currently on that side? was it still going a bit too fast even with that?

anyways, thanks for playing it and letting me know what you thought about it! :)

I replayed it with the belt numbers in mind. I would argue the opposite. It was a long delay before my strategy was implemented, throwing off my math. This is a worthy challenge to beat for sure.

The aesthetics here are very well executed, well done there!

I must admit, I don't really understand the game, even reading the instructions a couple of times. I just kind of went into it and hoped I would figure it out, but then the enemy just kept winning. It was a bit odd and unintuitive. I think others have said correctly that a show-don't-tell approach would have worked best here.

One other suggestion might be to have a turn based mode rather than a timer. I like the timer as a stress-mode but when you are working on a puzzle/strategy game, I don't know if the timer is necessary.

Still, congratulations on submitting to your first game jam! As far as I could tell, the experience was bug free for me and the idea was well executed. Great work!

Developer(+1)

thank you! a show-don't-tell approach is absolutely something that's gonna be on my mind for a future jam!

removing the timer is not an idea i had thought of in the short span of the jam, i might actually try it out eventually and see how that feels! thanks again!

I found the wildcard! (very cheeky of you lol)
You have a fantastic sense of style and direction! From the charming bit music to the simple but pleasing UI and art. Couldn't quite seem to get a handle on how to play the game, but I can't say I didn't enjoy trying it!

Developer(+1)

congrats on finding the wildcard! :P

and thanks for your feedback. i will definitely try to make further projects easier to learn / more intuitive!

Very original idea, don't think I've played anything like this before. And it definitely fits the theme. I played for a while (not long enough to get to 43 points), but couldn't really come up with much of a strategy. Do you have a good one?

Well done on submitting to your first gamejam! Since you are asking for feedback, my main thoughts are to introduce the game mechanics slowly (I had to read the instructions 2-3 times before I knew what was going on). This can be quite hard to implement, but I think you'll get more players who otherwise would not want to read the instructions. :)

Developer(+1)

thank you for your feedback! i definitely ran out of time for some aspects! and agreed, a tutorial intro could have really been useful!

as you might have seen in the settings screen, i originally meant to add difficulty levels which would've allowed the player to start with a slower-paced timer, to get the hang of things.

as you never know if the opponent will play a token, and what that token's value would be, there's definitely some randomness involved. when you see/calculate that the combined total is nearing 43, it might help if you can manage to have lower value tokens in your hand, and try to send one in when you calculate that the opponent's tokens allow yours to reach 43.

Pretty cool concept! I had a button covering my buttons, rendering the game sort of unplayable. I dont know if this problem is only present at my part.

Developer(+2)

oh, thanks a lot for pointing that out! it should be fixed now! :)
