Really interesting concept! With some more fleshed-out gameplay and a clear objective at the end the gameplay I feel would be really fun to do. I had fun just messing around with it and trying to figure out the rules of the game, and I really like the simplistic art style. I know it's a game jam game and bugs are bound to happen given the time constraint but for me they really got in the way of being able to play. I found a few that I'll list below just so you have the knowledge of them (if you don't already):
Not trying to knock your game at all, like I said, bugs are bound to happen and my game definitely has some as well, but I just want to let you know what they were because as a programmer I know that it can be very helpful to know more about what is going wrong. Overall, a really cool idea and a great jam submission, nice work! :)
Thank you very much for the detailed feedback, most of the bugs are caused by the auto-rotation algorithm, that I've spent too much time on figuring out, and probably shouldn't've bothered about at all, as it sometimes makes the majority of correct moves for you and sometimes just breaks :)
I will most likely go with manual rotation in the future to rule those bugs out and make the process more interactive.
Thanks for playing!
Really satisfying game) Like the concept and visuals. Reminds me of Islanders, where you just chilling placing houses)
I think I had a bug, when the die stuck mid rotation and could not connect anywhere
Y'all read me too well, I've also spent a couple dozen hours in that game :)
Thank you for playing and for the feedback!
Interesting concept with great graphics! Although the lack of an objective holds this one back a bit.
Thank you for the feedback! I guess I should've at least put a text prompt somewhere, didn't occur to me at the time :)
Huh, quite interesting. Having the dice rotate automatically and no objective / points makes this feel more like a sort of zen toy rather than a puzzle game. Feels like some soothing music and pleasant sound effects would really elevate this in that regard.
Thank you for the feedback, I will totally look into improving the feel of it.
Hope it goes well!
Why did I spent so much time just placing colourful dice with laserbeams on a 3d grid?
I don't know, but that show how good a game it is!
Despite some asking for an objective, I think the game is quite neat as it is right now; Reminds me of Townscaper, just place some things to make it look pretty, and that is it. Maybe not looong replayability, but I guess not all games must grab you for hours and hours.
One of the best so far on the jam!
What you said really means a lot to me. Just one comment of such nature makes all the difference. This actually brought tears to my eyes, wow!
It may remind you of Townscaper or such, cuz I've spent dozens of hours in Dorfromantik and always wanted to create something as beautiful in its simplicity.
Looks cooll! Sometimes the dice placing is a bit funky but it still fun to mess around with. It would be nice if there was an objective.
Thank you! Auto rotation is sometimes fiddly, I probably should've gone with manual rotation on all axes, not just one, and I also planned to add an option to rotate them after they're placed. The objective is probably less obvious due to the game allowing you to complete the structure even if not all dice match perfectly and I think I should leave it as is, but encourage a perfect finish.
Nice looking game with amazing vibrant colors, and a nice fun take on the theme! Fun, but just wish there was an objective! However, I thoroughly enjoyed messing around with placing the dice!
Thank you for the kind words! The primary objective I had in mind was to put the whole thing together with all sides matching, but maybe the game needs a free mode with no bounds, where you can just place the dice as a meditative process. Glad you had fun!
Nice presentation!
Thank you!
cool visual effects and nice stylised design!
Couldn't have gone simpler than shapes and colors :)
Appreciate the feedback!
I love the visuals in the game! The glowing effect is sick!
I didn't know if there was an objective or a goal,, by I had fun trying to get every dice to connect!
Nice job on the entry!
Thank you! Nothing says "I have 5 minutes left and I need to make this look pretty" like some Bloom and Vignette :)
Having all the dice to connect was the initial idea, but maybe it should just be score-based, depending on sides that do connect, when the cube is complete.
Thank you for trying it out!
really cool idea and nice graphics
Thanks! The idea came to me a day late tho, so the implementation could've been better :)
Neat mechanic and love the simple visuals. Wasnt sure if there was an objective and the scroll didnt work they just automatically found the best position but still a neat game, would love to see more if you work on it :)
Thank you for taking time to try it out and write some feedback! Wish I could do the same, but I don't have a windows machine on hand right now (
No worries :) gonna upload a linux and mac build to a post jam version!
Made the post jam version which you can play in browser if you wanna check it out! changes between it and the submission are listed as well https://ezra-mason.itch.io/dice-and-mice-post-jam
Now that I think about it, I should've just gone with manual rolling all the way, it would also have saved me a ton of time. The auto-roll sometimes does most of the job for you and sometimes just goes haywire...
Idk why I was so focused on getting it to work.
