Interesting Idea, I liked the gameplay and the art. I would have ditched the sprint mechanic as there's never really a reason to walk slowly. Other than that, awesome game
Very nice! The game controls well and is very well polished! Sadly it doesn’t really feel like we’re filling the role of the narrator.
The art is beautiful, and the platforming is nice. It was almost a puzzle in determining where you could jump; there were parts of what I would normally consider the background that were actually platforms haha. Although I think the "Role Reversal" theme of being the narrator was tacked-on, the game is enjoyable none-the-less. Nice story-book presentation too!!
Nice! I did not expect voice acting in such short time (let alone such good voice acting)! 😄
I feel like the controls could have used a bit of work, the jump was a little harsh when letting go of the button. I also think maybe you could indicate things that are outside your vision, there are a few places where the platform you are supposed to jump onto is not visible.
The art style was nice and the story book aesthetic was a nice touch!
Overall, great game! 😁
-Enjoyment: It was fun to explore and reveal the story!
-Creativity: Super duper creative!
-Presentation: The opening voice acting was great, and the pixel art/UI is superb!
-Neat game indeed!! Please check out my non-creative entry when you can :D
I had a really good moment playing your game. The art is great , the Music is chill and the gameplay is really good for a 48h game jam. Special thanks to the voice acting at the start of game which was the best part by faaaaaar. XD
Nice game, but controls could be a bit more crisp.
Thank you for playing! :)
We will work on the controls once the game jam is over :D
Really cute and charming theme with a nice execution across the board! Of course some gameplay feel and control things could be tweaked but I had a great time :)
Thank you for playing our game! I’m glad you enjoyed yourself - that’s all we hope to achieve :D
Cool game with amazing art and music ! I saw that you already got quite a lot of comments talking about how to improve the controls, I would like to suggest my spin on it :
- When holding an arrow key, the player begins in walk animation for a few frames, then automatically switch to run animation (no input needed)
- The Walking speed could gradually increase until it match the Running speed (but keep the acceleration quite fast, I don't want to wait too long before reaching my max speed)
- When jumping, always use the horizontal running speed (otherwise I have almost no control on where I land)
Not mandatory :
- I would love to be able to jump with the Up arrow key, and interact with Space. I think it would be more intuitive and like that I don't have to move my fingers to interact with the environment.
Pretty cool game overall, well done !
Thank you for all the feedback :D
That's an interesting idea to try out! I would then probably add some sort of "dash" button (shift) so you can accelerate on short distance.
For alternative controls I personally am used to Space for jumping, but I see how arrow up makes sense :) Maybe if we add some options to change it!
The visuals are so good!!
No u <3
Once upon a time... a jammer played your game and liked it very much :)
The art produced is really amazing for this short amount of time. The platformer needs a bit more work to give an even better game feel. Personnaly, I was always using sprint since the speed was too slow by default.
Still, I had fun to play! Great job!
Glad you enjoyed it! <3 We two artists sold our soul for this one xD
What do you suggest to improve on the platformer? :) I'll either do a toggle to sprint or a sprint as the base speed and toggle to walk next time. Thank you for the feedback!
Yes sprint speed as the base speed is good, also try to make to have a different gravity force after the character reached the highest point of the jump and stuff like that. Actually there is a great GMTK video about it named "Why does celeste feel so good to play?" that could help you see what I mean ahah
Platformer controller is really difficult to implement, but if you want a better game feel, you should definitely check this kind of stuff :)
Thank you so much for the input, it is really helpful!
I will definitely check out the video :D
Great Narrative, Tight Platforming, all around a package deal. Great Stuff!
Glad you enjoyed our little game! :D
A nice cosy game! Other than some issues trying to find the platforms which blended into the background, this felt really solid! The opening art was awesome too, good job!
Thank you very much! Happy you enjoyed the art :)
I will make platforms stick out more in the future!
I loved the idea to be the narrator, there is a very good level design. I'd preferred if there was a coyote jump in it because i've fallen so many times ^^"
Thank you for the feedback! :D
We thought of putting it in there, though we thought the narrator not having any superpowers :)
I realy like the textures and the concept is also fun, but it was hard to navigate, also you can see those litle pieces of background trough the wall, i fix this by making the wall texture like this:
when unity puts your texture in the game and it doesnt fit nicely it takes a bit for the edge of your texture. by extending this outside of the selected part it will do this with the good collor
Thank you for the feedback and playing our little game!
The texture fix is really cool. :o Thank you so much for extending your knowledge to us, I'll keep it in mind for future projects!
The game had a really good concept, but I cannot flip to previous pages. Also I had issues finding out where to go since some of the blocks blended really well into the background.
Ah - sadly flipping to previous pages is not included in the coding as of now. :( The navigation seems to be generally to be a bit muddy so I hope we can improve on that in the future!
Thank you for the feedback and playing the game. :D
I enjoyed the art. I did find that I constantly held the sprint down, maybe the character's base speed being a little faster would be nice!
I did run into a bug where a skeleton spawned onto a staircase, so I couldn't proceed, but the platforming layouts up to that point were really nice and atmospheric.
Thank you for the feedback! Maybe I will change the speed to "press shift to walk" and normal speed is running :)
I think the platform where the skeleton spawned is actually not where you need to go - there is a leaver for an elevator that progresses you, sorry if it was a bit misleading ;(
Anyway thanks a lot for playing! <3
I'm not sure I really get the theme of this game. It seems like we're playing an Indiana Jones type archaeologist rediscovering an old legend more than a narrator. Regardless, it's very well polished, I loved the pixel art, great job.
We were hoping that the pro- and epilogue would tell the story and enough about the characters to understand what is happening. Sadly we didn't have too much time left to add some details which would have conveyed it better - anyway thank you for playing and the feedback!! Glad you enjoyed our art c: <3
This is great! Especially the dabbing and sound in the beginning. You should do more of that!
Good job!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it!
So well-polished, great job, love the animations. If you guys aren't already a dev team then you should be one XD
Not quite a dev team yet, just a bunch of students, but we are working on it :D
Thank you a lot!!
