Pretty minimalistic, but nice idea. That's snakes scare me, kek.
Good job!

Quite a fun twist on snake. That retro look is exactly what I look for in any snake game, and fleeing my slithering predators put me in mind of this: https://youtu.be/B3OjfK0t1XM

Found that due to the snakes not knowing of the looping nature of their world, avoiding them was made somewhat trivial by camping the edges. Only died after deciding to quit that strategy. I suppose this has been brought up by others already, though.

An idea to make the snakes less exploitable, perhaps, could be to have a few different snake AIs that would be randomly assigned to the snakes when they show up. That way they wouldn’t clump so much. I was thinking while playing that if the snakes perhaps had some AI similar to that of the Pac-Man ghosts, it might enhance the game greatly. (Think a Clyde snake catching a player off guard on account of going off in its own random direction…)

Suggestions aside, found the game quite fun despite the exploits, and this reverse-snake concept (or should I just say ekans?) is a very cool one that I’d definitely like to see explored more. Good work!

Wow, quite an extensive review! but thank you! for all the feedback. So intially I thought I would comibine the snakes and give it a longer length which the player cant pass through, but that didnt seem to work and  I didnt have enough time. RN the snake AI is very simple, it just follows the position of the player on the grid and tries to find the shortest route to it. If I do expand on the game, I will take into consideration different snake AI's and Types. Thanks again for your review! Im happy you enjoyed it!

Great entry! I had many snakes chasing me.

Brilliant idea and killer execution. The game is a bit hard, but really cool. Great Job.

That's a cool idea,

as already mentionned you can easily exploit the edges to defeat the logic :)

don't know if that's just me but I seems to get a variable frame rate (the snakes visibly change speed quite randomly) or maybe that's voluntary?

Anyway simple but as addictive and enjoyable as the original

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Yeah the logic can easily be exploited, couldn't figure out a way to fix it tbh, considered combining the snakes, but not enough time to explore that idea.

Cool concept!

Flows nicely.

I found it easy to just dance around the edges of the screen, but trying to figure out the best tactic is part of the fun. nice!

Developer(+1)

yeah, the logic seems to be defeated if you just keep moving around the edges. Thank you though!

Developer

Thank you for the really kind compliment! I wanted to add more features, but alas time was an issue! :)

Nice retro presentation. Evade the snake(s)!

Submitted(+1)

I love the retro style and the idea.

Developer

thank you! Your submission is something I had thought of doing as well, but I don't have the skillset yet IG 🫂

Great idea and style, love the retro theme . The controls are nice but sometimes when the snake spawns some seemingly random blocks spawn before it which are surprising, other than that, great game.

Developer

Ah yes, so it's the prefab spawning at 0,0 then spawning at a random position. Didn't have enough time to fix it sadly :/

style is lovely

Developer

Tried to emulate this memory I have of playing Snake on my dad's Nokia. Thank you!

Developer (1 edit)

And somedays I'm Mario, and that makes no sense, just like life! 😂

Submitted(+1)

I would have spend a lot of time on this game in my childhood on nokia.  :)

Developer

Relatively simple concept but effective! love the retro visuals of this one, input sometimes didn’t go through but overall stayed true to the nature of the original game :)

Developer
