This seems to be a pretty nice setting xD Played it til the end and it was pretty nice.
Well, I first thought that you would be a Princess locked in a tower trying to do everything she can to Impress her Hero so he go save her. Man was I dead wrong on that. I was confused on the objective, but apparently dying was it. I was thinking that I was supposed to kill the hero, then when that didn't work, I tried to push him into a stalemate, then I lost but won... Of course that the game's mechanics are obscure on the first play through, but the second time playing I got it.
Hello! Thanks for trying my game out!
I'm sorry the game looked confusing.
The idea I was going for was "playing the final boss of a videogame", who's goal isn't actually to kill the hero/player, but to make a believeable and stylish fight, giving you the role of entertaining him with a satisfying final battle.
Kind of like a Dungeon Master would roleplay a monster in a tabletop RPG, trying to appear cool, but avoiding killing his players.
So the style points goal is to represent the player satisfaction with the battle, if you die after filling it, the hero is happy with his win, otherwise he feels underwhelmed by the battle.
Really interesting take on the theme! Gameplay was fun and well balanced and I particularly enjoyed the "Stylish" mechanic. Great job on your entry
Game Mechanics is great! A turn-based game that makes the fight "stylish".
The next update should be focusing on visuals and animations
It's an interesting game, the idea is very good although I don't have much fun, maybe it's not a game for me. But the game is good and play to impress the hero is something rare. Good job.
Cool game! I really like the balancing that you have to do in order to up your stylish points. My high score for style points was 71 haha
great idea, games where you dont play as the hero are quite rare, and a enemy impressing the hero is amazing
I like it, You need a monologue option and one where you tell the hero exactly how your abilities work making them less effective but earning more style. Basically Anime Villain the game!
I love the idea! Not just a game that you play as enemy instead of main character, you need to impress the character by giving him a nice fight! Just like we think about some bosses in the games that we played in the past :)
This reminds me so much of my experience as a TTRPG GM. Give the players a stylish and exciting encounter where they're at the edges of their seats BUT, ultimately, lose! I could totally see this fleshed out more. The animation at the beginning was so good as well!
I really liked the approach you gave to the same idea that many have had, it's a very unique approach and it really is fun to play the game
Very fun game!
I like the idea of having to make a great fight with the hero without killing him, the fact that the style bar let us the possibility to increase the points without a maximum, allowing players to challenge themselves to do the max score possible even if it would be nice to have a score note at the end.
Music and art are just what we need to understand and appreciate the game.
The gameplay is largely enough for the play time.
And the theme of the game fit well with the theme for the jam!
Maybe the only thing I would have to add is the fact that I haven't be able to use the final attack properly without just killing the hero, but I will just assume that I'm not sufficiently good or lucky at this game ^^.
In my first two attempts I killed the hero once by accident (the finishing move really does a ton of damage!), once because I didnt have any other moves left after filling the bar with almost 1000 points. It was only on the third try that it occured to me that the intended ending of a boss battle in a video game is for the boss to die after delivering a memorable encounter. I really enjoyed that this game took the theme much further than I had originally expected.
Great work!
Really cool idea, the artstyle is neat and the idea definitely fits the Jam. Although the game can get a bit tedious after enough time provided you can choose from the same five buttons until you fill the style meter. Super cool game!
