As a concept and demo of Gdevelop capabilities very well. I assume you used the scale tween function, at least that's how I used it when I was experimenting with pseudo 3d effects, but if you had a different approach, keep it your secret. In any case, an interesting concept with a good futuristic vibe. It's nice to see a slightly different approach to working with Gdevelop.

Developer (1 edit)

Yeah, I am using tween at the moment, but there is one twist I am just implementing to tweak the forward and backward motion illusion a little further. although I have no idea how can I get turning and sidestepping animation to work without actually baking additional animations, I'm still considering if I should upgrade the looking around. I try to get resources as low as possible, especially when web doesn't work well with many post-effects. Thanks for appreciating efforts, I am curious what did you do with pseudo 3D? I would love to see something of yours.

Submitted(+1)

I had a slightly different approach. You can check at

and https://letipas.itch.io/planet-probe  what is actually the same thing is just another story.

I even started doing a pseudo 3D space shooter, but I gave up on that project. Now I mostly use Gdevelop to make silly animations.  By the way, 6 years ago I switched from Windows to Linux and saved myself a lot of nerves. My distro of choice is Linux Mint cinnamon. I've been distrohopping, but I always end up going back to Mint. Cheers.

Developer (1 edit)

Pseudo 3D space shooter? Oh man, It looks amazing! I can see how it could be really fun... if you would like to revive it some day I would gladly help you with it I love an idea of a pseudo 3D space shooter. The graphics you used are gorgeous, did you do them yourselves or use assets? (I am not saying about the starcraft icons ofc :) )

I think that's behind me now. This was done almost two years ago so I doubt I will try to improve it, but you never know. Backgrounds were downloaded from wallpaper sites, most assets from free png sites and processed in Krita if necessary.

Great dungeon crawler concept and good dark futuristic vibes !

Developer(+1)

Thank you,  Loved your game!

Submitted(+1)

The fake 3D is well managed compared to the map even if it costs a lot for the final size of the game, the idea is in the theme, it rolls! :)

Developer

Thanks man, Shame I could not manage to show you what another-separation-themed things I had planned, but they will appear in next update :) let's say it has to do more with splitting into parts, than collecting them ;) What did you mean about the map? I couldn't catch that.

Submitted(+1)

That's a really cool game. When you said it's a 2D game, but just pretending to be a 3D game, I was truly amazed. Nice  work!!!

Developer (2 edits)

Nice that you appreciate it, I am fascinated with human perception and illusions, I will be expanding on that in next releases and other games (along bugfixes and more features ofc) But I see your games is pretty neat and 3D, congratulations!

I would really like to try this game, unfortunately no mac version to download, and in online liluo version map hiding does not work for me, so map is over the screen all the time. But very interesting for me (as Im also trying to develop dungeon crawler for Gdevelop). Also visual style looks very cool...

Developer (1 edit)

You have to click in the window/go fullscreen, then press tab. (browser steals tab, sry game supposed to be desktop originally, my bad)

Submitted

Yes, thank you, I already found out, wonder how you made it...  Did you use 3d plugin, or is it just pseudo 3d? If you dont mind to tell...

Developer (1 edit)

well, some of my close people say to me: "don't tell em!", But I will be straight, it is prerendered 3D graphics pretending to be 3D this is COMPLETELY 2D game. I love exploring the idea that our human perception is basically 2D, more things are to come, please follow me to not miss on them :) (I will be sharing later also how I did the code in GDevelop)

Submitted(+1)

Thank you, in fact if you look at my profile you also find some of my pseudo 3d attempts, so I was really curious about your solution... There is even one example project to download... The sprites look very much like real 3d so I was not sure...

Not playable on browser? :(

Developer

it is playable in browser! what is the issue? if tab doesnt work, you just have to click the screen, so browser won't steal the "tab" key.
or you can't find link? You just have to view the game page or here: https://liluo.io/games/7fad9212-baaf-4fe0-b8a1-4500872cf2c2

Oh, you've put a liluo link not itch.io. Ok, I've played the game now and I can rate it. Nice game bythe way :)

Submitted(+1)

Interesting game concept here :)

Developer

Thanks, do you mean dungeon crawling, realtime fight or collecting chunks of the female?

Submitted(+1)

The plot and gameplay elements could make for a cool full game experience if put together more.

Developer

Thank you, I am working on it. Coming soon.

Thought I owe you a closure, for all of you who went and collected all parts of Judy :)

Tab to turn the map off confused me at first, but after it really does shine as a tech demo. It was interesting to see some of the different 3D uses within GDevelop in this jam.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for appreciating that, I was aiming to bring something little different. Sorry for  inconveniences, last day of the jam was crazy and I could not fit in the time fixing bugs or bad defaults(like the open map at the beginning), and the Tab problem basically was something I didn't take at all into consideration until I played it myself for the first time in a browser. The After-Jam Version except story and gameplay improvements will be filled with a lot of comfy fixes, "I promise I will put this game together!"

Submitted(+1)

no worries at all! It's a game jam, so theres always little things like that we miss after the deadline. Best luck! Can't wait to check it out more later!

Submitted

Wow, this looks cool! Especially if it's made without any 3D extension! Sadly I can't play it since I'm on mac, the only unsupported platform :( But if you have a liluo link, I'll give it a try for sure!

Developer (2 edits) (+1)

of course I have, darn I was sure it was on the submissions page, my bad, here it is. Click on the screen or go fullscreen before pressing Tab to turn off the map. I must warn you, there are few bugs yet :( , fixes will be uploaded after the jam, so sorry I tried to make it.

I just played it, and okay this is seriously impressive. Even though it's just a tech demo, it's easily one the better looking games in this jam. Now it's hard to give a lot of meaningful feedback considering it's in such early stages, but I have noted two things:

- When all the walls around you are beyond the depth of view, rotating your character with Q and E or sidestepping with A or D doesn't look like it's doing anything, because the floor doesn't move and the rest is pitch black. You start the game in such a spot, and for a few presses I was wondering if I was actually moving.

- I got all of Judit's parts, and I think I was supposed to press Up + S to glue her back together, but all that did was punch the air. This combination is a bit weird considering it's two keys that are individually assigned to two different things already, and in my case it didn't do anything else, but maybe that's just not implemented yet.

In short, this is amazing work, and I'm also very curious of the inner workings of this wondrous beast. I'll follow you on itch, and should you need occasional feedback, I'll be happy to oblige :)

One last thing, have you considered joining the Dungeon Crawler jam? (https://itch.io/jam/dcjam2023) It so happens I've been wanting to build a dungeon crawler for a long time, and I have blank DC prototype also in gdevelop, so I'll be participating.

Developer (2 edits)

I extremely appreciate your very kind and very elaborate feedback, friend.
1. Yeah the starting point is a little bug which for now I am going to cover up, (probably by enforcing 1st move forward), and return to it, once the rest of bigger bugs will be addressed.
2. Your character moves on releases of a button, not on its presses. The aim of the game is to allow you for different combos DirectionKey+AttackKey (Didn't make it to implement them) Maybe back+attack wasn't the best choice for fusing Judy, I think I'm gonna rethink it or give a very clear feedback, that you use your energy and FUSE JUDY PART , that way you will know you used  your power, not punched the air. In this demo, fusing doesn't work properly(But I already fixed the issue)
3. If you are curious about the inner work once I reach version 1.0.0 (now it's 0.8.2) I will be open-sourcing everything on GitLab https://gitlab.com/LinuxRant/qbots But I can e-mail you the 0.8.2 version if you like. I can make also a video explaining how I came up with the idea to do it in GD. You are also welcome to collaborate on expanding the QBots to make it complete and reach more people who would love it. I will be making also a fantasy total conversion. When I learned about GDevelop my pants were wet because I had this dream of Making a Dungeon Crawler and now it is possible, and what's more fun I even learned to use Godot, so I can  program it on some more serious engine than GD (I am considering rewriting QBots or the next fantasy title in Godot, But I am not sure yet, I am thinking about couch coop and other areas of expanding the game and it's lore)
I didn't know that many people will really be convinced it is 3D,  I think that proves how powerful 2D technology can be, so I plan on expanding it (the fantasy version probably will be more painting-like, Barocco/Renaisance period type of paintings)
4. The DC Jam sounds Fantastic! I am scared of the competition, but it might be extremely learning and fun experience. I am up for it :) . We can collab if our ideas will match and if you like so I'm down. (doing game alone is fine, but on this gamejam I have almost killed myself doing graphics, music, sounds, coding all by myself, that's why the game is so buggy on the deadline)

Thanks for the closure! It's a shame I didn't get to see this in game, it's a powerful picture.

Also, I just got back to you via Liluo :)

A great game! I'm happy that some of the participants uses the new 3d features!

Developer

Haha, Thank you, but this is without any 3D extensions, this is an illusion, the game is 2D, But I am very happy my aim was achieved :) :)

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Just like old days but you can add some features after jam could be cool <3

Developer (1 edit)

Oh, some are already added, waiting to be released after the jam! More Combos, Gibs, and Enemy less asleep ;)

Submitted

Great to hear that I hope you like my game to <3

Developer

Oh, I'm checking it right now!

You can find the liluo link under comments <3

Looks interesting but I can't play it, the map covers the entire screen and Tab doesn't hide it.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yeah, Tab was a bad choice for web, The browser steals the Tab key from the game, so you need to go full screen or click mouse on the screen before clicking Tab. I didn't foresee that when deciding on controls. I was thinking desktop, not web :( so sorry. so many mistakes.

Submitted(+1)

Better luck next time! Every bug is a lesson learnt.

What an awesome take on early days of first person gaming.
I really like the graphics feel, the music is awesome and very well in balance with the general feel of the game.

Exceptional work for your first game <3

Too bad it's not finished and unwinnable, but keep on making it so I can play the final product.
I'm REALLY looking forward to it.
And when ever you require any more help, You know I'm just a message away ;)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your Kind comment. This game will be very playable very soon, I am improving it just as we speak :)
thank you for appreciating music. I made it myself with LMMS free and open-source electronic sound and music app.

Just finished playing your game...

Really takes me back to the old-school gaming...

Great proof of concept...however...

Please add some indicators for player objectives and also some labels to each status item on the HUD.

Give it some time and you'll have a really fun and intriguing game.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your detailed feedback, good idea, I will implement your suggestions, QBots bugs will be fixed and the game will be developed properly just after the Jam.

Nice game

Developer

Thank you, sorry about the bugs, I will get them fixed just after the jam :)

NICE 3D! I do 3d in gdev and its hard

Developer

Well, technically it's not 3D it's an illusion, I made it without extensions, sorry I didn't make it to get rid of the bugs and give more combos :) coming in the near future though.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

It's my first game, please be considerate about the bugs. I promise I will fix them, I just didn't have time, making illusory 3D reality is not easy task, even with GDevelop :)

I didn't make it in time to establish the story this is a synopsis:

The Evil QBot wants Judy to become his woman. But Judy refuses, because she loves Jack (light blue color, main character)
Angry Qbot crushes Judy into pieces scattered all over The Qube. You have to put Judy back together and use golden energy to connect her pieces. Qbot's Dark blue minions search for you and try to put you down in the name of the great Qbot, so you have to deal with them. But that is not over, because even if you will manage to put Judy together QBot still will stay in your way and will not allow your love to happen.
Story will be included in next update! Please do not miss it :)

Looks like a Sega Saturn game. Will download soon and try it!

Developer(+1)

Thank you that  was more or less the look that I was trying to achieve. Unfortunately I didn't make it to fix the bugs, that will happen and some more features after the jam :)
