I got knocked into the blackness when going through a text box. Even though that happened, I'm liking the direction this is going and your cutscenes are well done. I'm really looking forward to playing this more to try to get through to the lab at least. Great job and I'm looking forward to your updates!

How does your game meet GBJam's theme?
Our game is a spooky game in a game boy resolution with a 4 color palette. It incorporates liminal space through chase sequences with the main monster enemy. He chases you through dimly lit corridors and his constant ambushes from the shadows create an atmosphere of spooky horror.

Thanks for your review and for playing! I'm planning to have an update out by next weekend that will include some balance changes and bug fixes, as well as a checkpoint system to make it easier for players to complete the game. I would be very interested to hear your feedback after the update. Thanks again!
Very cool. Palpable tension from the moody score and the fantastic fog of war effects. Can't wait to see where else this goes when I have more time for it...because I got mauled trying to find the lab. Twice.
Awesome to hear you enjoyed the tension! I'm going to be adding some balance changes to the monster based on the feedback we received once the game jam is over. I wanted it to be kind of challenging so the monster felt dangerous but I do think he is unfair at the moment. Most importantly I'd like to tone him down so more people will stick around to the end of the story. I do think it's worth it :)
I think you guys created a spooky atmosphere in this game, i really liked it! I also like the simple graphic choice, the colour palette and the design of the characters. I think the only thing would be the gameplay esp. when the monster showed up and there wasn't any way to get away with it after I got stuck on a wall with the monster beside me. But good job overall!
Getting caught between a wall and the monster is definitely a problem point at the moment. This and also making the player a bit faster are going to be my two main fixes once the jam is over. Super glad to hear you found it spooky though! Nailing down this feeling was our main focus during development. Thanks for playing!
Wow that storyline gave me the chills, personally I think the creature is too OP.
It has a good spooky/horror mood, the monster killed me pretty fast and the game feels like it got stuck or crashed sometimes, I believe it is a design thing but I lose control of the character, some kind of cinematic happens and then I get control again, but at first sight I though the game got stuck and though I had to restart it xD.
Yeah we decided to freeze the player while a monster event was happening and unfreeze the player when the event was over. I was definitely worried this might cause confusion. In the future I might try doing something like focusing the camera on the monster or having the player still do an idle animation to show the game isn't frozen. We also wanted to add more ways to evade the monster but ran out of time. Glad you liked the spooky mood though. Thanks for your feedback and I'll try to improve this in the future!
Seeing the eyes walk by in the dark was really creepy. I think the world was a bit big for the simple graphics. When I was walking to the armory for the first time, the long walk without a change in visuals made me wonder if it was a trick and consider going back. Making the world smaller would have increased the desire to explore. Also, some action in between dialog would have been nice. It was definitely creepy, though, and I think it's a game you could build on. You did a good job.
In terms of graphics, this feels more like an Atari game than a gameboy game, and the gameplay serves its purpose. However, where this game lacks in visual quality, it makes up for in atmosphere. Playing this game, I was on the edge of my seat once the monster showed up, and the music only served to add to that already building tension! Well done overall!
Love the music. I got stuck by the sirens when trying to get to the lab door. I also thought I found a new dialogue option after the monster broke through, turns out it was old but reading it caused me to stay locked in place while the monster destroyed me. All in all seems like it could be fun if refined and developed more!
