I think the Michael Jackson cover will almost certainly disqualify this game, but I do love me some Thriller.

That was fun! The art is charming, and the mechanics are competent.

The music is a bit loud; it regularly peaks over +0.0 dB.

All-in-all, good work!

I guess I don't have any rhythm, as I could barely get past the first 5 notes....! Was a visual treat, with cool music - very loud! Looks like a spooky Gameboy game.

Submitted(+1)

I didn't manage to past the first level because I don't have rhythm but it feels like a good game for the gameboy in the spirit great job on that.

First rhythm game I've seen in the jam, really cool you guys went for one! Graphics and audio in this one were fun. Biggest complaint would be the visual syncing with the music, it feels like the beat markers are a little behind the music. Also would've liked for the game to be a bit more forgiving, and just let it play through if you miss too many notes.

Submitted(+1)

Very fun! Michael Johnson's music sounds very familiar! Wish there was some kind of calibration, but other than that, it was neat!

Developer(+1)

Yeah, indeed, there is another musical game with calibration and it was super helpful to play it, I didn't think about that before publishing the game.

Jams really keep you on your toes! Really easy to not think of something you're missing... I know that all too well this jam haha

WOW! Amazing!

Unfortunately my setup have some audio lag that makes me miss notes. A little bit more tolerance for late notes would help with that.

I would love to play more <3

Would love to be able to finish the songs even if I can't win, would love to see this with a score/rating system. I also assumed that I was supposed to hit the notes when they were under the skulls oops

Submitted(+1)

Didn't realize the timing was note above skull and not note on skull for the longest time lol. Liked the visuals and the music, was a fun little time.

Submitted(+1)

I'm not a particularly good rhythm gamer, so I didn't make it to the end, but I had fun with the songs I was able to do! It became easier when I realized that the beat for me registered just above the skull's head rather than directly on top of it (at least when I played). Cute graphics, good sounds, nice work overall!

very fun and the chiptune remix was spot on!

Submitted(+1)

I thought this was fun, though I struggled to fully clear Thriller. The chiptune cover sounded spot on and the art was cute even if I could only look at it briefly in short lulls in the music.

As a piece of feedback for if you continued to build this out, I think some way to sort of earn back your health to give a bit more flexibility around mistakes, or having a window in which you have invincibility shortly after making a mistake would be much appreciated. I had a few instances where I seemingly too 2-3 bites from misinputting around a certain note.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback, we are thinking in fix a couple of bugs, add more feedback when failing a note, and improve a bit how you recover from mistakes and/or have an invincible window. I played another game that also does some kind of auto adjust music offset for each player at the beginning, which looks like a nice to have too, and could help in the experience of the game for everyone.

Awesome!

Very hard! I miss a little more feedback for when I get a note wrong. also, it's very hard to appreciate the art, all my focus was on the note rails.

Great game, congrats

Developer

Yeah, completely agree, I even added animations for the mistakes ui and it is impossible to see it, best case you see the thing there after the animation was completed, unless you have enough experience with the game and play by memory. Thanks for the feedback.

This one was super fun! Definitely challenging but I enjoyed it nonetheless!

Fun rhythm game. Loved all the references!

As someone who has been actively playing 4k rhythm games since before 2014, this was still kind of tough for me, probably because I'm used to 4, rows, but I really liked this. There are a few flaws in the input system like no penalties for spamming super fast or 1 tap hitting multiple notes at the same time, but it's still very playable. extremely impressive for something made in 10 days. I wish I had made a rhythm game for this game jam. My main complaint would be the lives system though, I feel like they should regenerate after a certain amount of hits.

Developer

Yeah all the gameover and lives system was implemented last minute and I didn't have time to iterate it, it is too hard. And about the inputs, you are right, there are no penalties for spamming nor for not matching long notes right.  Thanks for playing and for writing!

It's great to see other people building out a music game! Thriller was a great fit for this jam's theme. I found the charts too challenging to complete, and I racked up a bunch of misses on the first track when I was sure I was on beat. Still, lovely game with a lot of soul, and I look forward to seeing more like this.

Submitted(+1)

Really fun idea, I really like the concept! However I could not get more then a few notes before failing.

Developer

As I said in another comment, it is a bit hardcore on purpose since it is a short game, the bad part is we should have a quick restart and/or allow more errors, since the main thing is you try multiple times until you learn the song, but right now having to learn is having to see all the intro again :( (that was a last moment mistake and I can't fix it now)

Very cool rythm game. but I’m probably not talented, as I failed like 5 seconds into the songs….

I enjoy that it's a challenge... it's just so well done! Great submission page, art and music. A rhythm game feels really creative in this context, and this 100% would've been a popular GameBoy game back in the day.

Great work, I can't wait for my next jam so I can try to execute something this polished.
