I ran out of bullets, ran away, stepped into a corner, and the game softlocked itself. Just, like, it stopped accepting inputs and the monsters chasing me stopped attacking.
The mechanics are there, but the monsters you encounter are quite tanky for having only eight bullets. I did not see a way to reload the gun, which seemed odd to me. Considering the monsters block the space they stand on, it's rather difficult to dodge around them, which I can only assume the game was trying to encourage.
The controls worked well, despite firing being a two-button thing. Makes it hard to accidentally fire a shot you didn't mean to. The strafing is a nice touch, too.
I must admit the monsters are very friend-shaped, though. Shame they're too angry or hungry to let you vibe.

this was a great experience, the atmosphere was cool and the execution of the controls with the limited buttons was clever!
It looks really good, I was really into it but for some reason controls weren't so clear, found the instructions but not sure why it was really hard to fire the gun, not sure what I did wrong. It has some horror mood that I liked, wanted to play more but the controls didn't help.
Ariel, thank you so much for your feedback on the controls!
The build submitted didn't have the controls fully explained, so control info is split between the itch page and the in-game menu; not ideal, and definitely something we'll get corrected once the rating period is over!
The way shooting should work is holding the "B" button (assigned to keyboard letter "C") and then tapping the "A" button (assigned to the keyboard letter "X") rapidly. There's a small bar above the "( X ) Shoot" text that indicates how much time you have to shoot before the enemy in front of you gets to make a move. When you run out of shots (there's a 'shots remaining'/'total shots number' display in the bottom right) you hold the "B" button (again, "C" on the keyboard) and then press Up to reload. Reloading doesn't happen automatically since it's a player action that also gives an enemy the chance to move/attack.
If that explanation doesn't help, please feel free to let us know and we can check into bugs with the gun firing! Thanks again for your feedback, we love hearing the positives and negatives! Also, Dance Zombie Dance is really cute, wishing you well!! :D
man this game looks AMAZING! very beautiful title, like the writing, the vibe! It has so much style! I love dungeon crawlers but making one with such limited screen size is def a challenge
great job, I love it
You're so kind! We spent a lot of time figuring out how we could make a coherent 3D space using 2D methods to keep it feeling as authentically GameBoy as we could! Also, glad to hear you appreciate the different color palettes! It's one of those little extras we love including when we can. Best of luck to you and The Possession! :D
I liked the visual style a lot, the gameplay was nice and the option to switch the color palettes was great, great entry!
Very impressive entry ! I really love the art and the Doom-like gameplay, nice writting too !
I unfortunatelly couldn't finish the game beacause it froze several time, but from what I've experienced I really enjoyed it !
This thing is awesome! Considering Gameboy was 4 years before DOOM came out, I'm sure folks would've gone nuts for this game.
