Great looking game! Very fun too. I wasn't able to get the sprint to work on my machine. I was still able to beat the big ooze though. I also didn't end up fighting most of the enemies, perhaps make there be more of a reward for fighting them if you intend for them to be fought instead of dodged? Super impressive work for a game jam game. Well done!
wow, you made a lot of game! do I see that correctly, that you modeled all of you assets yourself? if so: very well done! big Tomo fan here! super charming world.
I didn't really care for the combat so much, but that's a me thing for any 3rd person meelee combat game. nice thing was though, that Tomo is so fast when she sprints - I just ran by them no problem. sure, I had to do something against the boss, but I used my beloved sprint to run circles around him a stab him now end then. All I want to say is: the thing I enjoyed the most was zooming around with Tomo, that was a blast! Sonic would be proud.
I've discovered through this jam my pc is due an upgrade, it seems to struggle running unreal games which is a shame because this looks great. I managed to play a little but it lags a lot for me, again I think that's my pc being crap not the game itself. I played another game in Unreal earlier and had the same problem. But from what I did see the graphics and animations look great, I like the cutscene from the menu to the gameplay. A tutorial is included which is always nice. the music and the sounds both sound pretty good and fit the game nicely. From what I saw you've done a great job congrats :)
The visuals and animations are amazing, I was very impressed. I struggled with the combat as I kept getting hit but that's a skill issue on my part I expect. Nice work!
This is super cute! Reminds me of a game called "Plucky Squire" which I had recently played. the visuals are awesome and I love a good adventure! A couple notes to think about:
1) If you want platforming, a few things to consider would be variable jump height (holding the button down to jump longer or shorter depending on how long the button is held down), coyote jump time, precision with controlling the player in the air, etc. It got a little frustrating trying to do a few of those jumps
2) Not a lot of indicators tell me when I am taking damage, so it was hard to tell if I dodged an attack or not
3) Confusing to see "max health potion" and not be able to tell if I got an increase to my max health since the bar didn't change visually
4) Not sure what the stamina potions were for other than refilling my stamina
5) The game lagged a lot on my computer, causing a few issues, namely: inputs were not always being detected, I would look farther than I wanted to, making my character not do what I was hoping, causing some easy platforming to become a lot more difficult, sometimes just walking off the edge even though I was not pressing any buttons / keys, and a few other interactions
6) The combat with the final boss felt more like spamming my right click (not sure why right click?) more than anything, so it was a cool looking boss only for it to be drawn out in length
7) Many fights were avoidable since they did not prevent me from getting keys, so often times I ran past them since fighting was tedious at times
I will say, one of my favorite parts was the long valley with trees on either side - the character looks so cool running and when sprinting, it felt like that could be a lot of fun if leaned into. Overall, great job on the game, this looks awesome and there are a lot of solid ideas and mechanics here, so good job!
This is really impressive for a two person project in UE! Great job you two!
Critical Feedback:
I noticed a couple of bugs: A lot of the purple goo after the first section doesn't seem to generate overlap events (So you can just run through it). I also got a complete crash on the boss fight. If I had to guess, it was because one of the minions projectiles hitting the boss? But that's just a guess. It occurred when I ran to the back of the arena to get a stamina potion, but crashed before I got there, so it's not related to the pickups I don't think. Sorry, I should have screenshot the crash log for you.
Other than that, my only criticism is that some visual feedback on the player when they get hit would go a long way, and also that the platforming section after the first key is a little tricky given the jump height. Also, it was a little tricky to hit the slimes and not get hit back sometimes. Maybe if they had a slower melee attack that was easier to bait out? But I totally get you probably didn't have time for that.
Positive Feedback:
The presentation is amazing, the character controls are really nice, and I love the upgrades hidden around. Some optional content was really nice to see, and I love the design decision to make the potions in the boss arena not trigger the pickup animation to keep you in the action. Also the Widgets were really nice, and I know how painful widgets can be with UMG.
Aesthetics are amazing, I love the shader work, the outlined effect is awesome. The intro sequence is beautiful. The enemy design is also really really nice, and so is the character and it's animations. I love the small touches too, like the bridge made of coloured pencils in the beginning, and the coloured drawings implying the narrative.
Sound design was also really good, the SFX on the player attacking were nice, and the music was fitting.
This is an insanely impressive game for a two person team, especially in UE. You two should be really proud of this. I would love to see this expanded upon into a full game. I really enjoyed this, and I think you could definitely push this into a full release for steam. There is such a solid foundation here.
If you get a chance, would really appreciate if you checked out our game for some feedback too, but no pressure. I've followed both you on Itch and will definitely be keeping on eye out for anything else you release.
