Nice and fun little game, well done especially on your own. It could be improved by more sounds for the enemies, also the character didn't seem to shoot at the cross hair for me, but above it.

Overall great work.

Developer

Thank you! The placement of the spell was technically intended, but it has made for a bit of confusion for a few people, so I've added it to my list of things to fix. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

The game is good. Nice use of sound of music. Only problem was that i wasnt sure if i had hit the enemies since the bullets(magic) goes over their head. The health bar is hard to see while moving so an indicator for enemy damage would be good. A sound or explosion. Even turning sprite red for a second would be nice. Since bullets(magic) doesnt get destroyed its even harder to understand.

TLDR; Overall a good game but damage indicator needed

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Enemy hit registration is definitely high on the priority list : ) - I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Nice idea and beautiful execution. Animations and effect are very smooth. Really enjoyed this game!

Developer

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it and I loved what you made!

Thumbs up for your game! I've left a rating. Can you try my game and leave a rating too? Thanks!

Developer

Thanks for trying it out! I just rated yours as well!

The game was cool. There was an issue with the aiming at certain angles for me. It didn't line up with where the cursor was at times. But it was only at certain angles. It was like offset. But I got used to it and I beat the game :O

Developer

Thanks! And yes, I think I might be able to fix the aiming after the jam voting period - a definite on the improvement list! . Since you beat it, feel free to give the endless mode a try and see how long you can make it!

This was a pretty amazing game, the combat was very nice because the movement was so smooth.

This could definitely become a roguelike sorta game where you can get buffs and weapons.

But i feel that the attacks don't really have the feeling that makes an attack feel good like VFX and SFX.

Overall it's a great game good job!

(just read your asset list and noticed you used blackthornprod's assets, that's why the art of the game looks like his style of drawings)

Developer

Thank you! I was definitely inspired by a roguelike feel, so I'm glad that came through.

Combat is fun, and it's nice to control! I found myself spending almost the entire time in the monster dimension, since the consequences of doing so felt pretty negligible (for me at least). I think you could add more unique aspects to each dimension to incentivize the player to balance their time in each.

For example, you could have enemies move faster than you in the monster dimension but not in the normal dimension, and add an enemy type that chases you down. So if there's a lot of them chasing you at once you might need to switch to the normal dimension until you've dealt with them or gained some distance.

That's just one of many things you could implement, the combat in 2 dimensions concept has lots of potential I think

Excellent ideas, I had some ideas for how to implement better incentives to swap, but just ran out of time, but I love what you've suggested. If you haven't, give the endless mode a try, that (should) make staying in a little more dangerous as the waves go on. : )

Pretty fun and simple game. However, in the red dimension, the projectiles are really hard to see and notice, so in my opinion it is better if you do something about that. Overall good job for finishing the game!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely be making some changes post jam to it. : )

It was tough with a touchpad, need to check it later with mouse.

Graphics was cool, music feet the theme. Feels like a completed game, congrats!

Developer

Thank you! I didn't consider touchpad until one day before the due date and I had too much to work on to get it released, but glad you enjoyed it either way!

Submitted(+1)

Honestly pretty fun, was hard with a touchpad so I'll try again with a mouse a bit later.

Enemy firing rate felt a little high and as some others posted would be great if you keep working on this to give it some more juice, particles, impacts etc.

Developer

Thank you for the review  and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Check back in after the voting is over and I should have some of these suggestions implemented to make for a better experience. :)

And yes, I didn't consider until too late how difficult it would be with a track pad as I'm working on a pc with a mouse, but I can see it being more difficult, haha.

Congrats on doing this solo! Had fun playing your game, and it was cool to see we both ended up making pretty similar games!

As you asked for constructive feedback my biggest note would be to give the game a bit more punch: when enemies get hit, make them flash damage, give a little bit of screen-shake, and have add some particle effects on hit/kills. These tiny tricks will take you a long way!

Developer

Thanks so much! I think it's neat to see us both end up on similar paths with the games too.

Thanks for the feedback! I did intend to add a little bit more punch in the game in the way of screen-shake/particles, but I wasn't able to do it with the time constraints. I'll definitely put it into my to-do and get some of those done when the jam voting is over. :)

This game is pretty good but the weapon should do more damage to make the attacks feel more impactful

Submitted

Neat game! The player's fire rate felt a little low, but that depends on how challenging you want the game to be. For someone like me who is not very good at this type of game I didn't get very far, but it was still fun to play. :)

I really like the character design here, but not the environment. Regrettably, you are using pixel art rather than vector, as your character uses, just inconsistent for me.

The music is lifting up the mood, nice!

Edit: The main problem is that when you are in the monster's dimension, you can't really see where the player's projectiles are (before, I set my screen's gamma and contrast too low, so I couldn't see enemy projectiles). You can make the player's color a little bit red when they get hit. The shooting rate was a little bit too low, and it's unconformable for me to click left again and again. It's better to hold left to fire.

The enemy's shooting rate was too high even though we could dash and be immune. What I like about the enemies is that they can avoid the player within a specific range. nice!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, these are all great suggestions! Hopefully I can get some of them implemented after the jam is over

loved the art work. my only complaint is that the enemies should be knocked back or maybe flash  a color when damaged.    (its a bit hard to tell)

Developer

Thank you so much! The health bars under them change when hit, but knock back/color change is a great suggestion that I’ll add post jam. :)

Thank you! The health bars are below the enemies, but I should be able to move them fairly easy after the rating period if that reads better.

Really cool look and art. I think health bars above enemies would help the player. Looking good!

the asthetic is good , and the dash mechanic is really impressive.

Nice Concept and gameplay
