Hallo,

Thank you for sharing your game.  I’ve already saved its RATING;

1. verified: GAME due to observed in SUBMISSIONS LIST; adds: GAME to be classified as playable via web browser; observed: Developer writes replies to feedback; read: on GAME’s web page, “old consoles like the GameBoy and SNES.”

2. observed: noticeable use of 2D pixel drawing technique; adds: 3D drawing techniques via rotation, depth-sorting; remembers: from pixel drawing of SWORD, cover illustration of video (datestamp: 20230103) @YoshikiOkamotoGameCh on YOUTUBE;

3. observed: game to have noticeable background music and sound effects; remembers: at start logo, Ghosts n’ Goblins (GameboyColor, PSP); adds: at STAGE COMPLETE, SHOVEL KNIGHT TREASURE TROVE (PC, SteamPowered)

4. verified: GAMEPLAY to be of causing the protagonist prince to put OBJECTS onto self to be given to his beloved princess; remembers: KATAMARI DAMACY (PS1); observed: getting select items even those NOT classified to be the target, e.g. FOOD, appears to be NOT a MINUS; adds: such items also cause increase in STRENGTH of protagonist prince to carry larger items

5. notes: STORY text with illustrations to exist, with DJIIN giving protagonist prince three (3) WISHES, albeit causes incorrect OUTPUT due to princess NOT HAPPY; remembers: reading from STORY text, princess always leaves the protagonist prince; classifies: such OUTPUT to be due to protagonist prince appears to NOT know the correct ACTION, if such exists, in addition to letting the princess leave; admits: self opted to STOP after set TIME has reached ZERO in STAGE#3;

Thank you. Health!

What a fascinating comment! It almost looks like a gen AI summary from watching a video of the live stream from the comments on the game page! Am I completely far off with that guess?

The review can definitely be improved. In the meantime, congratulations for placing #8 Overall! I played again your game just now and noted “WASD or ARROWS” for the controls, with “mobile” support as well. It also appears that you developed the game using your own engine. I hope to play another game of yours this GAME OFF 2023! Cheers!

Great example of taking one game mechanic and doing it well.

Had a blast playing!

Congrats on this entry!

PS: what was the dice for?

Developer(+1)

Woo! Thanks for checking it out!

Hah, good eye! The die was an item we used very early in development before switching to the current aesthetic. There's one in ever level and it's worth 1M points!

Damn I never thought a Katamari like could be done in 2D? 2.5D? but now I know! As a lover of Katamari games this was great fun! The presentation, story, sound effects, couldn't stop playing until I reached the end! Excellent job! A 5/5 for me for in almost every aspect :)

Wow, thanks so much for checking it out and for all the love!

I've got a lot of fun here, so many objects moving at the same time! Great pixel art and sound design

Developer

Thank you!

It was fun! I liked the pixel art during the cutscenes!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Had a great artist this year 😀

Oh that was a really fun experience. It felt very well polished through and through. I loved the retro style to all the art and cutscenes, and the audio really pulled it together too. The simple story was really fun as well. Truly a super monkey paw experience.

Developer

Thanks for that awesome feedback!!

This was a lot of fun!! The story is really great and I love the art too. I had to stop playing since the camera movement gave me motion sickness. Otherwise, it's really great!

Developer(+1)

Well thank you so much for making it as far as you did! Sorry it gave you trouble...

I've noticed that the framerate drops tremendously when I play it in the browser on the computer but not my phone.

Is this what happened for you?

Submitted(+1)

I tried the game again on mobile and I was a lot less sick, but I think that has to do with the screen being smaller. I do sometimes get motion sick from some games/movies and it's usually because of camera movement. I think here it was the bobbing/circular motions that got me.

Developer(+1)

Wow, thanks for following up! I appreciate it, and that's fair, thanks for the feedback to begin with!

I submitted a bug fix that was keeping the memory usage for sprite alphas on web abnormally high with larger resolutions. I'd say it's about 60% better. Still not as good as the mobile experience, but definitely not unplayable anymore.

Thanks again!

Really fun game! I got to the end but I didn't take note of my high score. You know, over the years I have always dismissed Katamari as game I would enjoy but after playing this one and having a blast, I am reconsidering that. My one nitpick is the camera; after you grow a bit most of the screen real estate is blocked by your mass, so it is hard to see where you are going. But that's a very minor complaint, I had so much fun! Amazing entry!

Developer(+1)

Katamari is definitely one to play! I recommend Reroll if you don't have access to older hardware =]

And thank you so much for the feedback. I spent more time than I'd like to admit trying to get the camera right. I had a whole zoom out mechanic that could probably be revisited, and ended up just sizing the collider down after it was literally the entire screen.

Thanks for checking it out!!

Fun game, I love the style you went with

Developer

Glad you had fun, thanks for checking it out!

I love the early DOS vibe the visuals give. Katamari was a really interesting gameplay choice that I think works really well and makes for a fun experience.

Developer

Yeah!! Thanks for checking it out!

Did not expect Katamari-like game. Good job!

Developer

Hey thanks for checking it out! Hope you got to complete it!
