A very fun to play top-down shooter game!

I like the simply drawn graphics, the silent yet present sound effects, and the orchestral music. These elements combined, remind me of the old flash games that I've used to play as a kid in the late 2000's, and playing your game, honestly made me feel nostalgic to the good old days, which is a great plus in my opinion!

The gameplay, is also simple, it is your regular top-down shooter, where you need to defend yourself from the waves of monsters. To do so, you're equipped with three wands to choose from, and the ability to dash, which comes in useful when there are too many projectiles coming at you. You can also pickup randomly placed books, in order to get three random upgrades to choose from, though, the time doesn't pause when the options pop up, which needs to be fixed. All in all, it's nothing new, but all of the mechanics have been implemented well, and it is very much fun to play, so kudos for that!

Overall, this is a solid game, with a nostalgic feel, that only needs some minor fixes. Well done!

Thanks a lot! I am very happy my game makes you feel that way! It means a lot to me. I finished an update with some fixes and some difficulty changes, I will post it soon!

I enjoyed playing your game, but that second boss is super OP! Maybe I just didn't notice a weakness, but it seemed that his shield never drops for more than a fraction of a second at a time. I think a game like this would also be improved if you lowered the number of enemies, but got rid of most healing and gave the player a finite number of hits (say four or five) so that it doesn't devolve into seeing if you can just heal through all of the enemy damage.

Were you inspired at all by Ziggurat? It reminds me quite a bit of a top-down version of that.

Developer

I am working on balancing the game, I made a new wave system and it think it feels better than before , I will also change the final boss a little bit, regarding the finite number of hits, i was thinking maybe hits would consume mana but i am not sure right now, i never played ziggurat, but i was inspired from Nuclear throne

Hey, Thank You for playing my game! I came by to try Your game as well and it's really fun! I especially like the upgrades the player can get, they really make You feel powerful and include some pretty creative mechanics with it! Good work! 👍

Developer

Thank you for your review, I am happy you had fun playing my game!!

i really liked the crisp yet cartoony artstyle, and the fact that there are multiple firing methods to choose from.

Good work!

Developer

Thank you! I plan to expand, to add more enemies, bosses, upgrades etc!

This is one nice little game. The vector graphic is certainly very cute, and the music is pretty soothing. Gameplay wise I really like it too

Innovation wise this is pretty lacking though... I think there are dozens of games of this genre that I have played before... and this seems to only very barely fit the theme (is this supposed to follow 'bound' as in the arena is just that small bounded area?). Also there is a spelling error ("Your jurney ends here" - is this intentional to make the game seem childish? Doesn't seem intentional to me; if it's not you should fix it)

Anyway this is pretty good. Great job!

Well, thank you for the kind words I am  happy you enjoyed and reviewed my game, "jurney" is a spelling error I will fix it right away,  about the theme interpretation, I didn't take "leaps and bounds" literally, the term cand also mean something that is evolving quickly like the little mage from my game, who is constantly upgrading in order to face harder enemies.

Oh yeah right! I forgot it can also mean that. English is not my first language you see, and I just found out about that meaning about leaps and bounds at the beginning of the jam and I forgot about it XD

Pretty challenging at first but I found it a lot easier when using the leaf staff that does the auto-focusing.  The triple fireballs were cool too

Developer

I am glad you played my game, thanks a lot for the reply!

Hi, I played the game and this is my review of it. Let's start off by saying this game is very under-polished for a month long jam. The music is lovely and the art is okay, but the gameplay needs work. I'd recommend a wave system instead of random upgrades and a wave system would be nicer to introduce difficulty as time goes on so the player faces harder challenges, but he's actually prepared for it. Right away, when starting the game, ranged and melee units spawn at once, which proves my point of this game not being balanced. More buffs, debuffs and enemies would have been nice since it relies on those mechanics so much, but the combat mechanic is pretty cool. That being said the game need more work, like the issue of the game not pausing while choosing upgrades. All and all this is an average entry for me.

Thank you for taking your time to review my game, I agree with you,  my game is very unballanced and the problem is i did little to no playtesting but thank you all guys for pointing out what you enjoyed and what needs more work ! Your comment means a lot to me  I will keep working on my game but unfortunately I was informed that  I am not able to update my game until the rating period ends. I think i will post the updated version on newgrounds(when its ready)and if you want you can check it out and tell me if I am going in the right direction!

This is awesome! But I died at the fire stage.

But I did get killed once when I was choosing upgrades so it would be nice if the game was paused when choosing upgrades.

Developer

Thank you I will fix that as soon as possible!

I was assailed by (an enemy hidden under) my HP bar!

Good basics of a twinstick here, but I found it difficult to track my shots, as they were too hard to see.

Developer

Thank you for the comment I appreciate that, I need to make some changes to the UI , and also what you ment by "too hard to see" like the projectiles or your cursor?

Submitted

Both of them, actually. A targeting reticle would be nice, and maybe shine up the shots a bit.

Developer

Thank you for helping me improve!
