Notes (optional)
We ran out of time to do proper tutorials, sorry for that, hope people can understand how this works.

Pre-existing assets (optional*)
we put together logic from systems we have been developing but the vast majority of it was made during the jam .... sorry for the art assets we did our best in trying to do them by hand, so no AI assets.

Really impressive systems here! A multiplayer auto-battler is quite ambitious for a small jam. It definitely has some rough edges, it can use a tutorial and some refining to the match-up ranking, but it is unlike anything else I have seen in a jam. Great work!

This was an awesome idea!! Took me a little while to figure out how to make stuff work but it was cool seeing my creation fight stuff that other people had made! Thought it was a little weird that you could bet money even if you were in the negatives lol. But still, I had fun! :D

this is very unique and quite technically impressive! I like that my more simple creation was almost able to win against one that was far more complicated...makes me wonder what the optimal monstrosity build would be when considering compact and simple vs. large and complex :0 nice job! :D

Most different concept I have seen so far, congrats! Lots of people said the things I was gonna say, it is hard to understand. Also I win most of my fights with only 2 fishes, because I am small they cannot hit me, so the game dynamics can be much better if you put effort and mind. I hope you guys continue for the better version of this game, maybe without fishes but with smart dynamics. Hope you best!

I had a blast playing this! It was just so fun to create and mess around with the game, like others have already pointed out a tutorial would be great but in the end it's just a fun fish game. Great entry ^^

It took a while to figure out, but in the end was extremely fun to play! As many said it really needs some tutorial, but still for 7 days this seems like a lot of work. I had great fun!

One of my favorites I've played so far to be honest. I'm just a sucker for weirdness, and this checks all my weird boxes. The art is sort of goofy and sort of offputting and just creates a great uncomfortable vibe to the whole thing. Also, you say you ran out of creative names, but I feel like Fish Monstrocity Arena fits the vibe surprisingly well, haha.

Despite my love for this conceptually, it's definitely lacking some polish. Descriptions for what each component does would help a lot I think. The battles themselves felt a bit anticlimactic, in part because I had a hard time telling what was going on and what actually made a victory or a loss. There's some other things (giving the game some juice, tutorializing) that others have mentioned as well.

That said, I still loved it. I'm glad it sounds like you have plans to continue working on this after the jam because I would love to see where it ends up. Great work!

Developer(+1)

thanks a lot for such a detailed feedback.

the thing you mentioned and that was also bothering me is what leads to a victory (currently is damage dealt) and the lack of sound effects do not help. This leads to sometimes lose just because your creature is big and has more places to take damage. Still deciding what can be a good fair and fun winning factor.

Once the Jam is over we already have some updates to push live.

Like others said on comments, the game is interesting but it is a bit unclear at first how to construct our monster and send it to the battle.

I liked the music and the graphics are competent but it lacks "juice" for a better visual (screen shake, particles, animation... this kind of stuff)

Good job using a network. Really impressive for a game jam!

One note: I think a bug allow to buy a starfish piece without having enough money (this was suppose to happen?)

Overall, a solid entry! Congrats!

Developer

thanks for the comments JM, oh currently we allow you to buy and be kinda in debt forever lol ...

Very addictive game, I have been playing for half an hour I think. Nicely done!!

Good big game ! I had fun creating monster >u<, Good job !

The lack of tutorial indeed made it a tad difficult in the beginning, but I think this was a really cool game with an original concept that I've never found in a game before!

Developer

thanks for stopping by =)

This is extremely original and really cool. Plus making a networking game in the short time that a GameJam provides is a challenging decision, but it's always great to find a game that does. The lack of the tutorial makes things a bit messy, but after some playtesting it's not that hard to figure out.

I think the biggest flaw is that there seems to be no limit on the fish monstrocity you're building.

This is a great game, and one of the most original I've seen this GameJam, so congratulations to the team!

Developer(+1)

to be honest, the networking framework is the thing we had already, we developed the game over that framework of ours ... we still had to make the full game, but the networking and multiplayer aspect were already kinda there.

We made some video tutorials we plan on releasing soon so new players dont have to dig too deep to understand how it all works.

thanks a lot for stopping by =) glad you liked it

Peculiar but very interesting concept. I enjoyed trying to create a weird monstrosity fish machine.

Developer(+1)

thanks for stopping by =), we really appreciate it.

Pretty fun game. It was hilarious to load up a battle and be pitted against a twenty headed fish thing with twice that many blue fish shooters.

Developer

oh yeah those blue fish must be nerfed, far too overpowered .... but I have noticed some bluefish structures do better than others so still some learning to do there in our end

Submitted

yeah. i really want to figure out how to get the green shield things. those are a pain on an opponent.

Submitted(+1)

Really good concept. While money not mattering is probably a plus to me, being able to just add infinite parts makes auto battle part kinda meaningless (if you edit you get additional head + 200 health pool again. You also can just not specify health allocation and add infinitely).

It felt that the most effective way was stacking shields with blue fish to shoot.

Overall it was very fun seeing ridiculous creation shooting around. Got to the second place on the scoreboard (If I figured sooner that you can always bet 10k, which is actually 40k, I would probably be in the first place). Great job!

Developer(+1)

thanks a lot for the feedback =)!

Yeah we want to add some limits to the money thing, we are just not sure what is the sweet spot between allowing people do to anything and having some real stakes to the real game loop.

There is also a very annoying bug with the events being triggered that makes you earn a lot more money and lose a lot more money as well.

I think those blue fish should be nerfed in a way lol they are far too easy to just stack them around ... there are some commands we use as testers that we were not sure to include in the instructions because they were not supposed to be used ... like ...

if you hold Ctrl and click in a part, you clone it, which makes it easy and faster to create huge and complex monstrosities lol ...

Really well done for such a short time! Great job on the game. Cheers!

thanks for stopping by and the feedback

I'm (at the time of this writing) third on the leaderboard! Woohoo! (This TOTALLY won't affect my ratings.)

This was SUPER ambitious, but I adore games where you build critters and battle them. Top genre, no contest. The execution was amazing and you knocked it out of the part for the timeframe you had. Especially the auto-battles! They worked, and that was really impressive. Very well done, and the assets look great.

Developer(+1)

oh thanks a lot, the assets took me quite some time and a lot of retrials for I am no artist and was strugling to hold the pen firmly to try to draw over some fish pictures I found online lol ...
there is still a lot to be done there and really thought to make it not autobattle but have you be a submarine trying to defeat monsters made by the players ... not too sure if that idea was better or not.

thanks for playing @shieldman and for the feedback =)

Super interesting concept - it s a bit complicated to understand but I loved joining up weird fish lol also nice audio

Developer

oh thanks for playing @efeyukselcomposer

glad you liked the audio and the weird fish compositions.

eager to see your creations =)

It was really bold to make something online for a jam, good job on committing to it and finishing it… but… I was not able to play it…

It started, I was able to browse the menus, saw that I was already in the top of the leaderboard without actually doing anything xD, and then when I wanted to create my thingy, and well…

“Doing something important”

I wanted to try it, it looks like a creative idea.. I will come back later to see if I can (in the meantime I won’t leave a rating to not affect your final score).

Developer

hmmm, it does that when it is saving something, maybe a refresh is enough if it does not move from there.

Submitted(+1)

I was able to play now. It is an interesting and cool idea.

I was able to buy everything with just the starting $1000, and ended up with negative money but I still could create my thingy. Then I went to battle and was able to bet $10000 everytime even with no money and ended up with $148000 xD

Some things are not clear, like what each part does, the cooldown for the parts, and what the extra HP was for (also when I reached 0, I couldn’t add more, but if I have something there I can add infinite things?).

The game has a fun loop though, it is fun to watch your beast fight.

Congrats! :)

Developer(+1)

thanks a lot @tomeyro for giving it another try =)

a lot of things we left undone kinda on purpose so we could see more of what people would like to see more, that is one of the reasons money is basically infinite so it does not stop you from creating your thingy cuz we believe some people might get more excited about creating than watching the fights  ... other things we just could not finish (like showing tutorials explaining pieces and all)

thanks for the feedback we plan to keep evolving this
