Great western atmosphere with the music, sounds, and graphics. Playing with a keyboard was not so comfortable though. I didn't get the benefits I had for holstering my gun. I've seen a snake moving through the ground.

Great job overall! I hope we'll see more emblematic western movies locations like saloon, train, rocky mountains, ghost town, etc.

I like the game. The death sound and enemies' different ways of dying is nice. Don't know how low and high stance is different, I just use high stance and crouch shoot at everything :D

I agree with other comments here. instant death from pit and explosion is frustrating. Adding jump buffer will help a lot, because I died many times from jumping too late.

The snakes are hard to spot, if this is intentional, then you did very well.

For the boss, it would be nice if there is an indicator of how big his explosion will be, to reduce frustration from dying even when you think you are safe.

Look forward to see what this game will be like once it's finished !

I'm glad you enjoyed the game. A lot of the problems mentioned are things we didn't get to tweak or tune before submitting for the Jam, some of which have already been updated. We will update the game after the rating phase is over. I really enjoy the high/low aim myself, but like you said I only switch if its necessary, and there's not really any scenarios that require the mechanic so far, but in the future you will have to switch in order to hit certain animals, enemies and boss's. Also exactly where you hit an enemy will cause varying amounts of damage. The snake I tried different color schemes with, but it didn't look like a rattle snake so now it has a little more contrast and an outline, for the demo purpose its a bit of a Gotcha! Thanks for your feedback and for playing! Keep an eye out for updates!

Visuals and Audio nailed the western feel.  You can shoot bottles lol but i always forget its space to jump instead of up arrow

Developer

Thanks for playing. I'm afraid I don't use the keyboard, I highly recommend using a gamepad if you have one!

Nice style and game mechanics. Takes a while to get comfortable with the mechanics, but otherwise a fun game.

Remark:

You could give the player - when falling into the abyss - a penalty of one health and respawn him instead of killing him. Would remove the frustration when falling down.

smooth animation, I like style of art. But personally, I think the abyss to jump over is too wide.

Developer

Yeah there's a few gaps to mind, the level is still a rough draft so we'll keep your advice in mind. Thanks for playing!

This is a neat platformer you have here. The animations and art style are fun and the sound effects all work well to create a cool wild west theme. It's good how you can shoot up the crates and barrels and stuff.

Cool idea, keep up the work on polishing gameplay and art! The pixel art and animations have character

Developer

Thanks for the feedback.  I definitely want to refine all the artwork and aesthetic, I'm just learning to do pixel art and will be playing around with a few different styles for the characters. Thanks for playing!

nice visuals.
I like the idea of low and high shooting, with crouching effecting that, but having to press a height, then press shoot is really quite awkward.
Might work well instead with trigger to shoot low, bumper to shoot high.
edit: playing a bit more, its very awkward that to aim high you press Y, but pressing Y when already up makes you put your gun away, means its super easy to put your gun away by accident

Developer

Thanks for your feedback.  We are going to make right trigger: draw and shoot if your gun is holstered, but we ran out of time to implement all of our ideas. Having a separate button for holstering is a valid suggestion that we will take into consideration.  There are still more actions we want to include in the game so button layout might be tweaked in the future. We will continue to update Boomtown after the Judging for the FFS Game Jam is over. Thanks for playing.
