Judge feedback

Judge feedback is anonymous.

  • It was very easy to immerse myself and fish for a while, pleasant art direction and music, and a wide-yet-well-defined amount of mechanics give this game a lot of progress. In an effort to provide feedback that is not already covered by other judges, I think animations go a little too far, giving wobbliness where it might not be necessary. I also think more feedback in terms of short sound effects for every action would be better. But the radial menu, the crafting menus, the customization, the settings (not every game has them) make this a solid base for a full game in the future.

I LOVE this! I really hope you continue to work on this <3

I love the art work and atmosphere, and your skills drawing people are next level and actual anime quality!!! The talking animations gave Mayor a lot of personality, and it was a nice touch that she would only move her mouth as long as the text on scree was still rolling, then she'd stop.

Was exploring the forest behind the field and was pleasantly surprised when I didn't have to go through all 5 forest pages I'd walked through AGAIN just to get home. This meant next time I could go even further without worrying how far I'd have to walk back, which was a super relieving touch.

I couldn't figure out how to access the seeds I'd bought to plant them, so I saved the game to go to the main menu to check the controls in the menu, but I couldn't reload my game's save  D:    Not sure if it saved in a funny spot or something and the game couldn't access it, or if I just needed to restart to get the game to register it, but the Load button was still blurred out and inaccessible. Restarted and no dice, but it wasn't too much to make a new character and play the first two days again and get some farming going.

I found a small bug where I can process nothing and make nothing with the drink machine with no items in it, and then have to wait for the process to be done to use them again. I also bought 2-4 of each seed, but when I went to plant them, I think I planted them all in one slot, and only got one seed's worth of yield after growth. I couldn't plant sugar seeds.

Overall so excited for the next update, whether that's soon or during the FarmJam autumnal jam :3

THANK YOU DO MUCHHHH <3 <3 That means so much coming from you!!

I'm so sorry about the game save :( I hadn't tried it and unfortunately it seems like a hit or a miss-- It was my first time using JSON save/load so I need to really hammer it down sadly- I'll definitely look into it!

Thank you so much for letting me know! I might poke you on discord to ask more about the processing / drink issue! If you're using the Mac Build I believe that part of your issue with the seeds might have had to do with the inventory bug I encountered today and resolved only in the PC build (Where if you switched items, it wasn't saving the stack amount so you could either lose all your items or duplicate all your items rip) but the sugar seeds is interesting! I'll take a gander!

I'm so sorry for all the bugs! I hope you enjoyed regardless <3 It's been awesome meeting you through this jam and its an honor to have you play my game <3 <3  can't wait to see where yours heads too!

Oh I should've mentioned I had a hard time opening this on my mac!

I think I have an older Macbook that's just incompatible because I couldn't open most people's games, so I'm just playing and rating them on my partner's PC while I wait for my own windows computer to be fixed.

Ooooo thank you for letting me know!! I'll look into it more <3 Hope it gets fixed soon ;-;

What a cute game! I think the narrative is incredibly well done, but found interacting with the field a bit cumbersome. Getting the character to target the spot I wanted them to seemed to be a bit difficult, unless I am missing something? I think perhaps having someone in the game explain the farming to the character would help a lot. I also think letting the character break dialogue would be a good idea (i accidentally talked to the same person twice and had to click through their dialogue). I hope you continue working on it, it is super great!

Thank you so much for the kind words and the suggestions!

I definitely agree with the field being cumbersome, I believe it has to do with the raycast being a bit strangely placed, so I'll fiddle with that to see if I can get it to feel better! I appreciate the feedback on that :) And I'll look into a buffer for the character dialogue as well!

Thank you for playing and for the very helpful suggestions <3

I really like the sthetic, nice work. I could play a lot because a bu, when I was to the shop and close it, just can't move anymore. But, great great work!!

[Edit] An updated build has been added that removes this issue, it was built twice for some reason in two separate folders, my apologies!

AHHH My apologies, try the exe in the monobleeding edge folder, I built to the wrong location rip updating the build atm so feel free to re-download in a few and it should work!

Very cute game! Combining farming, crafting and selling things in a coffee shop is quite clever and provides cool gameplay. Love the chill vibe and cute graphics ^^

Well done :)

Super cute! The idea of combining a restaurant management game with a farming game is really interesting. I did struggle to figure out how to play the game a bit, so I think that adding a more integrated tutorial would be better than some dialogue at the start that tells you everything at once. I also was having trouble figuring out what the controls were, so some on-screen UI that tells you what different keys do would be very helpful. (The jam entry Grim Farm did this and it helps a ton; I'll probably add it to my own game as well.) I think different key mapping would help too, like left and right click instead of Q and E, and using <> to switch items is a bit strange because you have to move your hand around on they keyboard. I would recommend just using number keys for item switching.

That being said, I'm very intrigued to see where this game goes if you continue to update it. The UI and art looks really really good already and there's certainly a great cute/casual aesthetic you're hitting. With a few quality of life and bug fix updates, it will be a very fun game worth playing for hours. Where the game is now, I would recommend focusing on those core features before adding more features and complexity. Good luck!

[EDIT 2] Build released with mouse functionality and inventory switching for 1-7 numbers :)

[EDIT] I'm going to be releasing a build later on that introduces right, left click and scroll wheel for tool picking! I think I might reconsider the number keys for tools rather than inventory or have a toggle in the settings! Thank you for the feedback :) Unfortunately an integrated tutorial won't be possible for a while for time reasons but rest assured it is in the plans!

------

Thank you so much for playing!! I apologize, I keep forgetting the jam submission is separate from the game page (where I have my listed notes and issues as well as the controls due to not having time to implement the tutorial) but the integrated tutorial is an immediate post-jam thing that I sadly ran out of time for.  The controls were also a product of last-minute crunch, since mouse was actually not meant to be part of the control scheme (it was supposed to be purely keyboard and controller with mouse inventory interactions as an option) but ended up being a necessity due to time constraints with the code, so hopefully that helps explain why things ended up as they were! Number keys are also written out in the GDD for inventory swapping.

Based on your suggestion I might add right and left click since its a quick fix

Thank you so much for the kind words and the feedback, they are noted and align with my own desires going forward. It sucks I couldn't get the controls fully explained and working in time for the jam, but I'm still glad you enjoyed and I appreciate the feedback since I'm more familiar with gamepad than mouse/keyboard controls.

I'll respond to messages in the morning please bare with me <3 Version 1.11 of the game has been released!

  • Tons of bug fixes & polish
  • Fishing!!
  • Exploration!!
  • Cutscene!!
  • Various other things!

The major issue right now is the heads up display notifications for receiving items do not stack and therefore if you collect 4 apples, you get 4 notifications. Tomorrow I'll be adding the catch for this so you only would get 1 for all four apples. The code just wasn't working.

There are still known bugs and QoL things that I'd like to get in before the update lock. Seasons don't presently work at all since they're not really important but maybe that'll be something I can squeeze in-- hey I got an essay worth of stuff done today so who knows!

There's nothing else to do after cleaning the field and planting all the seeds. So most of the time, you're just waiting for the timer to go 12 pm. So maybe sleeping/skipping the day at any point in time would be needed. There's too much waiting so I'm stopping at day 5 for now.

It's a very cute game, art wise imo is still one of the best in the jam! I'd love to give it a try again before voting if you ever update it before the leeway ends.

Noted!! For the demo I’ll remove the bedtime requirement, I agree there isn’t a whole lot to do to fill time atm! I’ll reupload that tonight!
I really appreciate you playing and oh my gosh you are too kind?!! But that’s clearly your game. I love your style so so much 🩷
