I'm so, so sorry for the late reply I'm actually kind of sobbing in my kitchen. I am the solo developer though I had some friends and family playtest a bit for me. 

This made my year, you have no idea how much that means to me. It was my pleasure to let it be free! I wanted to have something fun and exciting for otome fans but also not fitting into all of the conventions that even professional games fall into. I'm so, so, SO happy you enjoyed it <3 It means the world to me that it meant something to you. I know I'll keep what you said with me for a long, long time. This means a lot to me-- I'm going to stop before I start rambling too since I have games to write for but thank you for such a sweet comment! Hi there! Glad you enjoyed my small silly project!

Sugar Stars doesn't include default RTP package and all of the files should be included within the game much like VX Ace, I'm pretty sure I double checked. You shouldn't need the engine to play it, I've tested it out on multiple devices. Regardless, RTP can be downloaded separate from the engine.  :) 

 I appreciate your feedback and I respect your preference! :) Unfortunately though, If you're asking me to remake the game in RPG VX Ace then,  I'm sorry to be direct, that won't happen. I would've had to learn an entire new coding language to change over and it would take well over a month to re-event and code and optimize everything for an engine I frankly don't really enjoy using. That includes re-scaling all of the tiles and characters, learning parallax mapping etc. Unfortunately IVXA or VX or MV just happen not to be my cup of tea nor what I enjoy using.

I don't think you're calling me dumb lmao I know a lot of people don't like the fact that I use an older game engines but it's just what I enjoy using so I'm a bit firm on that.  It's just my own preference and I just can't justify using an engine I don't love. I hope you understand.

Thank you so much!! Ahhhh You're always so sweet to me <3 It was my coping mechanism back in high school, having to deal with leaving my friends. I remember feeling like Alice but acting like Anna so it was just how I handled my day-to-day. It's been 10 years and I've learned a lot. It hurts to be gone but I'm also so grateful to work with the characters again!

I'm so sorry about the errors! The last part of the game was made in the last few days of the jam and I admittedly had limited time to play test! It was just honestly to say I didn't slack off this month even though I really, really did LOL I'll be sure to comb through and fix things up later! If you had any bugs you remember, please let me know!  I'll keep them in mind for any framework that remains when I go to complete it :)

Hey there Lenneth! I appreciate the feedback! I respect your preference, but perhaps I can shed some light on everything?  Seraphina's name actually couldn't be changeable, even early into production-- Seraphina's name has a massive role of the game lore. Her name is what it is for a very, very important reason. The entire game was about the power of names, and I felt that by making her name changable I would be undermining my entire message. 

I was very careful to make sure Seraphina wasn't a self-insert or blank slate-- she's very much a defined character of mine so I hope that helps understand my decision a bit more!  My OCs are very precious to me, so I appreciate you taking the time to play my small passion project!

Anyway thank you so much for playing!  I'm glad you enjoyed it despite the name choice not being your cup of tea!

OH JEEZ I'm so sorry! I wrote a reply and I think I forgot to send it!

I'm just so flattered ahhhhh seriously my work is nothing to admire-- I've been super self-conscious about my style for so long. My biggest tips:

- Use the stablizer if you're drawing digitally with SAI or FireAlpaca. It helps smooth lines~!

- I used to have a 'style file' of images I considered to be the closest to how I wanted to draw. I would do small sample pieces, closely examining techniques they use and trying to emulate them while drawing a totally different character & pose. It was a challenge but after a while I developed my own techniques that I liked and the style kind of diverged from there. (To be clear, I was zooming in on things like the eyes and seeing the proportions, how it was shaped and colouring techniques and tried to do similar stylistic elements on different pieces without referencing it.)

- I literally could not draw six years ago lol I just practiced everyday until I got better. Even now I struggle with certain pieces.

-The BIGGEST most IMPORTANT thing is: create for yourself, not to please others. I made this mistake so many times. I never understood what it was like to have fun drawing. It was always a chore for me. I learned to enjoy what I was drawing and started to create exclusively what made me happy and somehow that did the trick in helping me improve <3

YIKES I'm so sorry! I have to look into it and fix it up! I'm so sorry you experienced an error! 

Basically it's a check if you helped Angelo by using your own abilities to turn the plant to stone earlier on in the game-- but I'm not sure why it's causing an error. You may be able to bypass it by using the skip option on the error screen. I figured out its because I seemingly defined the stupid thing in the wrong place so if you didn't help Angelo and tried to comfort him instead the game doesn't define it. I'm so, so sorry!! I'll add a fix in a bit for it, but you should be able to press 'continue' on the error screen instead.

I'm also sorry for the cringe ahaha Sexuality isn't something I write very well or enjoy writing, but it was part of the challenge. I prefer to write chaste relationships just simply because it's easier to write as someone who's ace. Azreal is actually an incubus in his main story slightly more sexualized than Angelo and I honestly wanted to cut so much of it out but I decided to leave a lot of it ambig. The sexual parts have no real weight in the canon, meaning that the scenes you see are up for interpretation. I hate them 100% too so you're just feeling my cringe while writing tbh.

I understand haha the routes can be pretty problematic to some people, I'm very aware not everyone will agree with where I took the story in some places-- especially in relation to some of the choices I made. I respect that though <3 Thank you for the honesty. You may, perhaps, run into similar issues with Angelo's, but I hope you still like it! I'm so glad you're enjoying it regardless! I hope those things didn't impact your play through too much.

You ran into an easter egg, Creed is a romantic interest from my first visual novel, so it's just a silly cameo for those who played Paper Roses.

Several users have encountered a cooking crash and it will be fixed shortly.  I can't do it right away but I have the fix ready to render when I can.

Make sure you aren't hitting 'cook' before entering in ingredients. The new version will have it more clear. The blank areas that highlight are where the ingredients go. The crash is because you're hitting 'cook' before adding anything. I didn't anticipate this so the new version will play the error sound instead of taking down the whole game ahaha

I just finished my second VN so I'll be returning to my main project as well as fixing up Paper Roses when I can! Creed was more popular than anticipated so I regret not being prepared at release for that, but I will do my best to ready his route for the future! :)

Alrighty so that's never happened before? The cooking system has given some problems (I have  build that should fix it but its on another hard drive and I'm searching for it). Were you putting in ingredients before clicking cook? In this build of the game, there's a missing error catch that means if you click "Cook" before adding ingredients it would crash the game. The menu lacked clarity so many people didn't realize that the highlighted boxes were for ingredients, so when I find the file I'll release it and it should fix the issue. I've edited it for clarity and added the catch but I still have to upload.

That COULD be why since that's a common problem in the game. That's my best guess but if not then I'll have to look into it further. It was my first time coding a system for anything and three days to do so wasn't enough so I sincerely apologize for the problems you encountered!

Sorry for the late reply! There's a glitch in the game that remains unfixed since I don't have the game file anymore (The project is on an indefinite hiatus). If you're referring to the tutorial section, make sure you're clicking the highlighted boxes before clicking "bake"! It was fixed in later builds of the game but I never officially released it ;; I'm so sorry about that!

I'm so sorry to hear that my love! I made this game in three days and didn't end up editing it any further since I lost the data for it. 

I'm not sure why it would crash on you?? I'm so sorry to hear that agh I'll take a look into it if I can find my backup! I feel awful I'm so sorry to hear that the controls were giving so many issues :/ 

May I ask what you mean about the graphics not budging? Is it just freezing on you?

I'm so sorry to hear that! May I ask what's happening when you try to download it? I'm afraid I haven't heard many other people having trouble so I'm not quite sure if it's the game or or internet connection or something else that's causing that for you. ;-;

Sugar Stars isn't a visual novel. It has a similar format for the cutscenes, but it is classified as a non-combat RPG, meaning you do actually walk around and complete tasks~ I do have some visual novels released, but sadly S*s is more a walk around game than anything else.

The repetitive thing is very much an issue and I'll take the mini-game suggestion into account :) I wasn't expecting people to play it-- let alone more than once so I'll do my best to fix it up when I can! The length is sadly as short as the game could be to avoid too much overlap (I had to do the math when making the game),  so I'll brainstorm when I come back to do Iris's route and see if I can fix it up!
