That's a nice start for a first solo project! You got a lot of things working, even if the polish is not there yet, I feel like you're getting a good grip of it all. I think it lacks some features but the ones you did implement seem to be working fine.

You can find more more tutorials for godot on youtube with PlayWithFurcifer, (GDQuest and Godotneers as mentioned earlier), Heartbeast, and FinePointCGI. I think there's a lot more of them, but these are the ones I like ^^

Good job, keep learning :)

This is off to a really strong start. The world itself feels well designed, and the areas are really intriguing (I wonder what is in the cave? How is the upstairs of the house decorated?). I agree with others that the building transition is nice!

Thank you!! I hope to have my equip and minging/resources stuff fixed before the update Farm Jam so that I can expand on those two things you mentioned!! I have a cave interior all made up, but item drops from mining breaks the game right now, haha.

Looks very cute! I'd like to see what you'd make of it as a game game.

Note that I was sometimes able to collect the vegetables, and sometimes not! I'm not sure what the reason was.

Also, a minor bug: After moving upwards, when you let go the movement key the player faces down, rather than up. (This does not happen after moving left or right.)

Thank you so much for taking a look and the feedback! I'm hoping to spend more time on this to make a game-game, because I have a lot of ideas and a Game Design document that over-scoped for this month-long jam with my complete utter lack of experience lmaoo

I was able to look at the animation thing you mentioned and noticed it's an issue in my state machine animation set-up. xD

Looking into the item pickups currently, and thing I just need to rework my item system to fix the issues I was having in this prototype and other mechanics that didn't make it into this submitted prototype because of crashes.

Thank you for bringing these both to my attention! ^u^ <3

Cute art, I can see this becoming something bigger later on. I imagine being able to feed the gold fish, and raise the snails. I love snails XD

Pixel art is also very good looking.

Edit: I think if you hit the snails they go into zoomy mode. I should probably not be hitting snails.

Developer(+1)

I noticed that too!! Also if you stand on the top of a snail's shell while they move, it carries you xD

Thanks so much for your feedback! I hope to be able to get some good experience out of whipping this into an actual game in the next few months!

DORKYYYYYYYY

First off, let me say it's been so lovely to get to know you over the course of the jam, it made sticking around great!

I'm going to give some feedback based on the prototype, congrats on your first game you did awesome!!! I was kinda silly and saw the +1 age and my half asleep brain was like "Oh wow this game is made for ages 1 and up!" and then it took me a couple minutes to realize it was a button LOL But that's my own silliness

Things I loved:

  • The assets you used were beautiful and cohesive
  • THE SNAIL FRIENDS
  • GOD your level design is great. There's a lot of nice space to move around and I was pleasantly surprised by how much world there was! You did a great job utilizing the space nicely and I enjoyed walking around and snoozin'
  • The day/night cycle was so pretty!
  • Your UI was pretty functional and I did enjoy the dropdown menu when you clicked on items!
  • The building transition was sick

Things I'd love to see:

  • MORE SNAIL FRENS

A few things to look into:

  • Infinite item glitch: If you dropped an item from the hotbar, it'd stay in your inventory and you can clone indefinitely!
  • Making the background of the inventory transparent and over the world may be a tad less jarring!

It's a really neat prototype and you did fantastic!! The design is so lovely so far and I really hope to see you continue it :) I want more snail frens

Developer(+1)

AAAA (இ﹏இ`。) You're too nice!!!

I forgot to take the +1 age button out, haha, that's my fault!!

Thank you so much for your feedback,- what you mentioned is incredibly helpful, and I'll take those bugs into consideration as I try to fix my items! xD

I have lots of snail friens and variations I made but was too lazy to put them in because the prototype I ended up with made me feel a bit defeated and over it during the last week. I'm gonna keep working on this though, so don't fret!!

Also, not intended, but if you stand on top of a snail's shell while they move, you can snail surf :3 I was wanting to make a river crossing snail with this new-found feature, but wasn't able to figure out how to break down my snails into classes with different world interactions (like a river snail that only cross the river with a player on it's back, or an ice snail that makes the water freeze so a player can cross, or a flower snail that spawns flowers behind it every so often, etc).

Good to see another dev who made in Godot. It was very hard to rate this prototype, because it not to much to do. Maybe this two youtubers can help you with your UI issue or to rise your skill. Great job for your first project. Keep up :)

Thank you for your feedback!

Yeah, there isn't much to do except pick up the items spawning on the north of the map.

I just couldn't get my Resource Node script to connect to my items and drop pickups, so half of the stuff I was working on up to the end just didn't work (item interactions, equipping, harvesting and mining) :c So I had to release as is for now and I'm still working on it!

I love GDquest and I tried watching some Godotneers too during this time!
Since you're also using Godot, I also found Oops I Dev'd really helpful for my inventory scripts!

Nice little prototype. Impressive how the building goes from exterior to interior when you walk in. Thats something i wanted to do but could not work out. I love the art style you have chosen and all the animations bring everything to life

Developer

Thank you!! That's about all I have to show for my time haha. I had mining and resources in but they broke about half way through the jam when I implemented Inventory, and I couldn't get them to connect.

I followed an Oops I Dev'd written tutorial on Medium for the building part!!

I really like the visuals of the game and even though it's unfinished, it's pretty fun to just walk around pushing snails!

Developer

Thanks so much!!!! I'm hoping I can eventually get it in working order xD

Cute visuals! Are the trees from an asset pack? They look really good!

Developer (1 edit)

Oh yes!! It's Pixivan's Forest pack <3

Thanks for reminding me, I'll leave a list of assets in my description!
