Great game as always. Can't wait for more

Oh sweet home alabama!

Let me just start this by saying how much I appreciate the acceptance of more expressive and strange content, adult stuff included, in these game jam, it makes it very welcoming. Though I don't expect to do anything too out there for this jam, I wanted to clarify this rule.

when you say 'active war' do you mean only real wars happening in real history? As in, if I were to write a fictional story taking place during lord of the rings 'war of the one ring', that would be allowed, but if I wrote a story about a real war happening right now, that would not?

Thanks again for the awesome jams. XD

I get it. When your working a full time job and trying to also produce games of at least passable quality, its a lot of work. Even my 'update something once a month' plan is hard to keep up with lol.

Here's wishing you luck

Thanks for the comment. I'm really glad to hear you liked it. XD

Thank you so much for the comment. This made my day XD
I'm so glad you enjoyed it, with luck there will always be more stories to come out.

since this is the first thing that comes up in the search bar, and I had the same issue, I'll put a bit more details here on how to remove from jam without deleting your game, cus that's a mess.
click on the icon for your game jam submission and it will bring up your submission. on the left-hand side, underneath the name and the short description of your game, there is a 'edit this submission' and a 'remove this submission' button. click on remove this submission and done.

I agree, almost none of the games I see target kids even if their 'kid friendly' though I personally love the horror here. There is no shame in making low budget slasher films, and should be no shame in low budget spooky video games. There's a certain charm to them that's just entirely absent now. There are of course a ton of actually good or unique horror games too. as far as the visual novel thing, that's probably me your talking about lol.

the promotion thing is a shame really. If itch just followed the same path as other self publishing websites, or sites designed for creators then they could just have an nfsw 18+ part of the forum for adult games to be freely advertised and discussed. I feel perhaps some of the reason that there is almost no reviews, or discussions on less popular games is because it's not actively encouraged.

I agree that itch.io often unfairly targets a lot of the adult creators. There are a lot of creators that don't one hundred percent clarify what their game is and thus cause confusion but then there's other stuff that's fairly vanilla that seems to get hit by the random lottery of 'ban them, ban the non-believer' with no explanation given at all.  I just discovered f95 was a pretty open place, but it's also still not the most professional, there's also just a lot of content that gets allowed on steam because they believe more in the idea of total freedom than itch, which is weird given what itch.io's mission statement is. I wish there was a bit more clarity in some ways, and just more conversations like this one.

an nfsw forum would be a great place to talk to other creators, ask for advice, and learn more about the creation process. it would have to be 18+ but if 4thewords can do it, why not itch?

ah, i just found this. This was helpful for me to see. Sadly it does ruin a lot of horror content. Doki Doki would not be allowed here, nor fnaf, Spooky's House of Jump Scares, Voices of the void, Mandela Catalogue, nana825763, David FIrth, Film Cow, adventure time, Dragon Age Blood Magic or well... pretty much any long form media I can think of. Even MLP had Trixie try to off herself on camera. It also seems to prevent the ability to tell traditional eldritch horror, or stories about recovery after a suicide attempt and learning to find purpose in life again.
for some of us, we've been there. We've been in those darkest of moments and attempted to take our own lives. Horror is a great place for us to express how we felt, to show others through art and to have them understand us a little more. It can be a real good therapeutic method for healing and bonding.

I was really hoping to hear it would be allowed again next year, but I guess from what I can tell this jam is trying to become increasingly more soft and increasingly less horror focused.

I am glad to see an explanation and can understand why one would be cautious, there are a few creators, usually edgy teens, or Visual Novels that don't know how to end a story properly that will go overboard. Those are not great. However, the way this rule works for this year's jam is way too strict and a bit silly if I'm being totally honest, a few bad apples does not spoil the bunch. However, even though I respect the decision to go more safe it does mean it will limit some of the creators that have truly personal stories to share.

I do hope that next year they lessen the rule, not saying to remove it entirely, but to make it more open for those of us that have those personal stories to share. Youtube's done enough to damage and condemn horror as a genre already, we need more freedom not less.  Oh well, we'll see what happens.

Glad to see the explanation at least. I couldn't seem to find it anywhere else.

another update on this. I was watching Superman and Louis, a wholesome superhero show about superman and his family. The kid's friend had tried to kill themselves a year before the story starts, and the family is dealing with the fallout and recovery of that. Including therapy, and trying to find purpose again... I guess we can add superman to the list of 'you can't write a story like it for spooktober jam'

That explains a LOT!
i didn't know there was a sponge already in the base, so i bought one and the thing doesn't work at all. Now I just found the sponge in the shower and that sponge works like a charm. not sure why they both act differently

I'm really digging the messy factor right now. Makes this place feel like it's mine as I clean it. However, I can't seem to get the sponge to actually work as the in game instructions say. Any tips?

this one only has the one ending. More of a kenetic novel really

yeah the self-harm and suicide rules are far too strict, to the point of being absurd. I guess if your making family friendly safe (corporate) horror you can probably find something. It's just you can't do anything found in, Doki Doki Literature Club, Silent Hill 2's ending, Stasis, Dead Space, Silent Hill anything, Resident Evil, Happy Game, Paranoia Agent, Harry Potter, several ghost stories that are rated PG about 'hanged ghosts', Luigi's mansion, The cheese sauce scene in adventure time, hidden content in Five Nights at Freddies games... the list goes on to cover about 99 percent of horror and adjacent genres. Oh, and you can't do a story about Romeo and Juliet.

I suppose if your taking inspiration only from Disney movies in the last... no wait, there was a suicide in one or more of them, Coco I believe (as well as nightmare before Christmas) ... uh... Ok, so you can go super abstract with horror and focus on very small themes that do not personify people, like Can Your Pet, Carrots and Cream, um... there's probably more examples?

So it is possible to avoid using any of these themes. It's just a lot harder to get something that will resonate with people. I was kind of hoping the elaboration of the rules would be pretty open and include references like 'the ending to Silent Hill 2 is acceptable because it ties into the tragedy of the story and human condition' or 'if the story is about healing, or its a traditional zombie apocalypse it may be acceptable' but like, if you really think about it, I can't find many stories that don't have any of these themes outside of expressly strange, or expressly children's entertainment. Even the stories I was planning to put in here includes things like 'characters healing from an attempted suicide and finding a reason to live' or 'once you're infected with a brain-controlling mushroom, you either kill your family or... take yourself to pasture'

So, I'd say just play on the side of SUPER DUPER caution if you planning to join the game jam. I unfortunately had to back out. All my ideas are going to be against the rules this year, maybe next year things will relax? we will see

Edit: you also cannot replicate several scenes/episodes/comics from my little pony friendship is magic... I'm not saying it's exactly good these themes are in every story ever, just that they deeply resonate with humans as a relatable experience/emotion

hmm you do have a point. While Innyuyasha may only be rated TV-14, itch does not provide the same level of depth that most other viewing platforms do. Generally, E, T, and M. By itch's standard, it's either porn or its sfw, hence the name, this is not the adult account this is the not-adult account.

of course, after getting away with watching endless amounts of pg13 movies on the tv's at our host's place of work, the definition is skewed. We're not going to hold people's hands, it's a comedy, and if it's not someone's flavor of weird furry-anime-homestucky humor, then that's fine. but no need to ruin the surprise for anyone who does want to play it. Should be pretty clear from the word 'go' with subtext that this story is just somewhere below highschool dxd or gurren lagann(update: how the heck is gurren lagann rated PG? that should be pg13).

But we will acquiesce and add an extra warning just in case folks are not familiar with anime

that's really weird, there really shouldn't be anything with gore in there. It's just a cute game about cute ponies, no canning of pets, nor any worms and cream at all

no problem with asking for money for hard work, so long as the project has always cost money and wasn't free. From what I can tell the only 'free' aspect was a demo, so it's just weird the demo is gone but the full game is still on steam

I'd really like to have played this on PC. Kinda weird that there doesn't seem to be a post about it disappearing. it sounds like there was a demo on here that is gone now.

nice to see this is beign worked on. Looking forward to it

glad to hear it. XD
at least with renpy, giving out PC,linux, and mac versions is easy. its the android ports that are a challenge

thank you. I'm still trying some new things with regards to sprites, but I'm glad to hear you liked it XD

thanks for the feedback, I'll go over it again and see what I can do XD
