Congrats on making 18 holes in 48 hours! I enjoyed every one, though could've had a "you win" screen that tallies your score. Great game, I had a lot of fun.
The friction values need tuning, but other than that, phenomenal work!
A very nice game! Mixing just right amount of frustration and satisfaction ;D I loved the diversity of the courses and allowing for the variety of players' gaming styles (little strokes or really big jumps across the entire field). It's great that the player can see the level of force used on the previous throw and adjust it easily; also the little dot at the end of the force arrow is superb for precisely adjusting the direction.
When it comes to drawbacks, I'd say there are some visibility issues with some courses (but it can be counted as adding a bit of frustration, so that the victory in the end gives more satisfaction), there's a bump before the bowl in course 18, that acts like a ski jump (not sure if that was intended there) and... I couldn't get through hole 19. To be honest, I couldn't see the hole. Or a clear path anywhere. I fell from the chimney onto one of the previous courses and got stuck there, in a hole, as every time that I tried to force a jump out of there, I landed on a piece of land not belonging to any of the courses, so that was a bit of a bummer.
Overall, the game was really enjoyable, just the 19th hole... got me.
Original gameplay choice for this theme. Graphics and UI are neat. Sounds effect need more work to equal the rest. It's fun to play and a good game.
I love a good golf game, and this is great for a 48 hour game. Great use of the theme. Sure, there are some rough spots with the controls and the physics, but, for a game made this quickly, bravo.
I liked that I could be egg, and have legs!
Your game is super fun to play. Its not the most innovating concept, but incorporates the theme well in to golf. It could need some more polish. However the amount of content is impressive for only 48 hours. Well done!
This was a fantastic use of the theme, and it was fun as heck to play. Would have personally liked to see a little less friction with the ground, as in some cases the ball would take a long time to roll down slopes, but it definitely didn't deter me from finishing all 18 holes. Good stuff!
You guys pulled of a lot given the time. Mini-golf is a really fun concept too. Minor issues was the text in the controls popup being a little hard to read for me, could use some more spacing between lines, and i found that the camera would clip a lot. But these are just minor issues, i was still able to fully enjoy this game, Great job.
Super fun! You have a good number of unique and interesting mutation that make an old game more exciting. Loved the egg mutation and the grow legs mutation. So whimsical :D
My teammate played to the end. Kudos!
Gotta enjoy any mini golf game, and not to mention the fun mutations it incorporates. Very impressive for a 48h jam. Main critiques are that there's no background music and the camera can sometimes get blocked by objects around the course. But overall nice job!
Thanks! We actually do have background music, but we added most sounds really late and a few were way too loud and in our attempts to normalize all the samples, we missed that the background music somehow got affected. It's there, but a little subtle :) EDIT: No, I think actually it's gone. I just went back in and max volume'd everything and am not hearing it. Might have been a mistake that got introduced right before our final build, and probably by me because adding one more sound was the last thing I did before release.
As for the camera in general, I think that was one of the top pieces of self-feedback that we took away once it was done. We had the camera and basic golf mechanics working well enough to build off of after the first night, but aside from a sensitivity slider in the settings we didn't give a fine tuning pass to the camera (both sensitivity and view blocking and a couple small bugs). Probably a bit of case of being too close to it to notice as strongly, as we over those 48 hours became very accustomed to working with it while developing. If we had an extra hour for polish that would probably be the top of the list to address.
Yeah, those things like the camera always end up cropping up in such a short time. The sensitivity setting was a nice touch, though, as it was way too strong for me at the defaults.
You can never go wrong with mini golf. The core mechanics were pulled off well, you were maybe more conservative than you needed to be with their effects. The spike ball and double shot were especially fun variations. 18 holes was quite ambitious for a jam this short, is hole 19 completeable?
Occasionally the mutation animation would get stuck in a loop dropping me back in the same spot that triggered it then my ball would get launched off the map.
Hole 19 is just for fun. We never got around to making a proper ending screen - we were scrambling late to figure out why Lead Ball wasn't wearing off! 😂
Really impressive game you have here, especially considering it was done in 48 hours! I really liked some of the mutations - eggplant was pretty funny (and frustrating), grow arms was silly, and reset stroke and spikeball were very useful (only game of golf where you can get a hole in 0 after your 4th stroke lol). Some of the mutations weren't very clean on what they did though or how they should be used. Needs some music though, felt a bit lonely after playing so many holes without any background music.
Oof, there should be moody industrial BG music playing. We must have set the volume way too low.
Yeah it may just be a bug then, I cranked up the volume all the way and could hear all the sound effects loudly but no music. Hopefully you add it back in, I'd like to play it again after the jam is over :)
Interesting idea! I think it would be cooler though if the mutations had a bigger impact on the game though (I can't even see most of them, maybe it's a bug?). Also, it might just be me, but the camera controls are fairly wonky even on low settings. Other than that, I think it looks nice and could be a cool game with more polish. Nice job!
Thanks for the kind words. It's not just you for the camera. We realized too late that the web version's camera was so fiddly. Definitely something to keep in mind for next time.
