Theme: Mutation

Discord Jam is a 48 hour game jam event that has been going on for 2.5 years now and was originally made when Ludum Dare went to 2 times a year from 3. It was made to fulfill the communities game jam gap that was created from it. We have taken this as an opportunity to use the core elements of Ludum Dare but still do it new in some ways to be unique and just try different things. Sat within the Ludum Dare Discord of nearly almost 5k members its all about community and game development here. 

The environment that's created when the event proceeds is one of a kind and we want everyone to be able to enjoy that same community and event that is being created here. 

DJAM is new in terms of how long its been going on but its going to turn into an amazing event because of the community each event has gotten better and expands us closer to the goal of what we want DJAM to be.  

JOIN THE DISCORD

To join the event it's very simple.1. Click the "Join" button at the top of the page

2. In the Discord in #djam-general type "!join" to get you DJAM5 role for jam news and updates. 

(You will join the jam automatically and get the DJAM5 role when you participate in either the suggestion/slaughter or final vote portion of the event.)

Selecting a theme for each DJAM is all on the community.

There are 3 phases to the theme selection process, suggestions/slaughter/vote.

First there is theme suggestions where you can give up to 6 themes for yours and others games to be made around. This is done in the #suggest-themes channel on the discord. Remember to put a little thought into it as you want them to make it past slaughter.

The slaughter is where we bring it down to just 10 themes from all the great suggestions in the community to the not so great :P. This will happen within your DM's on discord Automated for your leisure to just click. 

Lastly the final vote the last part before the actual event. The Top 10 vote is where you can vote for the final theme to use for DJAM. The theme with the most upvotes wins. This will also happen in your DM's within discord!

Discord Jam is new and with new things we have the opportunity to innovate and try new things. We want DJAM to be about community and not just any, the Discord community as a whole! We must start somewhere though. Right now we handle a few things right on Discord such as, Event Date Vote, Theme suggestions/slaughter/ and Final vote! 

The vision is something much bigger that we are all playing a part in slowly building and growing to the final goal of DJAM which is to not only have other game developers watching for results but common Discord users also playing and keeping up with what games are coming out of this event! To have bigger prizes, better developer coverage and a more involved event as a whole. It starts somewhere and that's here because of YOU.

-Make a game in 48 hours around the theme suggested/slaughtered/and voted on by you.

-You’re free to use any tools or libraries to create your game.

-Basecode is allowed

-You are allowed to used assets made before hand or from online(Make sure you have legal permission to use assets. Failure to is the game creators responsibility.) 

-You can work Solo or in a Team.

   -Have fun and enjoy the community!
