Ranked from 30 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does you game fit the theme?
It's named after the jam. And the name itself is a pun; i(t) is multiplying t by i; the score in the game is a variation on multiplying various complex and non-complex mathematical components by the time passed in the game (t).

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I built everything but the textures, music, SFX, and character controller code. That I modified a code chunk from Sebastian Lague for. (His didn't have controller support)

Everything else is from scratch.

nice game , aiming was sometime difficult but overall a good game

nice concept, difficult to aim though, keep at it.

√-1, as a math enjoyer, quite appreciate this game. It's simple but pretty fun and I can tell care was put into it.

However, I share some of the complaints of other reviewers: the lack of a crosshair makes aiming difficult, the controls are a bit wonky, and the UI not consuming clicks results in accidental shots.

Great game! cool take on the theme, good job!

Ah! A fellow i enthusiast!

I kept trying to shoot the i's but I think it needs a minimum of four spaces, so I couldn't use them right away. Maybe starting with more boxes would be easier for new players so we have room for mistake-shots.

I like the idea and implementation of negative and imaginary numbers but the gameplay is very buggy. It is like I am fighting to play the game. I think you can improve the game by doing the following:

  • Add a crosshair so the player knows where they are aiming
  • Prevent the player from shooting when they press buttons on the menu screens. Players can unintentionally shoot blocks this way.
  • Fix rotating the player with the cursor. Idk how this is happening but my cursor tends to escape the game screen and this prevents me from rotating the player continuously.

I like the concept, but I was missing a helper text or tutorial at the beginning... nevertheless I had fun playing for several levels after I read the description :D

The ideia of taking the theme to its literal meaning is interesting, however, as of now, the game is broken: UI's are on top of each other, the scenario is empty and controlling the player is hard. I also suggest making a countdown timer so that the player doesn't have infinite time to think and find the numbers he needs and making an in-game tutorial level so that the player learns the rules quicker!

I hope my feedback helps!

Yeah, it needs a lot of work. I thought I had two weeks to make a game because of the jam length, and................. It didn't happen so quickly.

I think this game could have been quite cool but sadly it fell short. I'm not going to mention the player controller as enough people have done that already. I will say that, although I really like the idea of using imaginary numbers, the idea wasn't really explored very much here. The main game seems to consist of shooting the positive integers and avoiding shooting the negative and imaginary ones. This means that all it boils down to were some targets you can shoot and some you can't. This concept can be achieved by making them different colours and not requiring them to embody the square root of negative one. I think it would have been cool to use the interesting properties of imaginary numbers to develop an engaging gameplay mechanic. Maybe make a game that is about building complex numbers by shooting the correct real and imaginary parts out of the sky like clay pigeons. Or a game made to teach you how to plot complex numbers by firing a bullet at the point they should be on a graph. This all said, I really don't want you to get disheartened by a review that's more negative than i². It's really cool to try new stuff out and game jams are the perfect place for that. I'm sure you learnt a lot from making this and I read below that you enjoyed playing it and those two things are the most important takeaways to making any game. I wish you the best of luck in all future projects and look forward to seeing what you've learnt from this one.

Hah.

The most important thing I learned from this one was to read the jam rules carefully. I thought I had two weeks, so I didn't sweat over spending three or four days trying to figure out how the UFPS character controller and weapon system worked. The (completely doable) plan included a portal array gun and a lot more stuff. This is almost just a tech demo.

Haha, that'll do it.

Nice game rated it, pls check out my game also if you don't mind - https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-7/rate/1418152

rated yours as well.  Nice game.

thanks

The concept is very unique. Game is also real hard but fun!

Unique concept! I had to rack my brain to remember how imaginary numbers work lol

Submitted

It is a strange game, but a unique concept! It isnt really clear what you have to do though, either way well done!

I didn't understand how to actually win the game, but I get the gist of it: you are trying to create some kind of number. Pretty unique idea. Also the camera movement is kinda weird though.

Rated!, can you do mine too?

Very original idea!

When I saw the theme, I brainstormed and at some point I was reading through the Wikipedia article of complex numbers. I finally went a different route. :-)

Was very confused how to play, a tutorial would be nice. Also it's extremely hard to aim since from my understanding you can't move the camera up or down so it was impossible to aim correctly. Also, each time I hit restart, it would automatically fire a ball which kept messing up my score. Very cool idea though!

Puh hard to play and :D

I meann........................... It definitely needs better instructions. And a bunch of other minor improvements. But I actually like playing it, which is an improvement on my previous Jam games.
