Loved the flow of the gameplay! Liked the details of the forms of the objects and the style that you put in there. My recommendation is to work in the visuals of the game, conciliating the characters with the background.

Amazing job!

Your game are awesome. I really enjoy it a lot

I liked the different endigs depending on the unsolved problems, good job!

Yeah you're game is like ours! So I have to like it :) Like you, the feedback found some things we missed so we made updates too, waiting to release.  I love that you have multiple endings and you have choice dialogue as well. That was a pain to track for our game, without choices. So I can imagine. Nice job though. I got the fish head, alien and pirate endings. Couldn't figure out the right combo for the real ending though.

Oh you prob already know but you have a hidden obstacle here..

Developer

Oh you were so close to the end! Glad you got to give it a go though. Yeah that collision was a known bug from the start. only just got to fix it now that the jam is over :P

Submitted

I loved it! I've been playing for a while trying to save humanity, the groundhog day feel is very well implemented into the game and I had so much fun playing it. Some collisions are super weird, but apart from that I absolutely loved this game. Well done and keep it up!

Glad to see you made it past 20 reviews :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for the rating and feedback. Really happy to have mad it in to get ranks. Was a lot of fun, hope you had fun with the jam too :)

The concept here is pretty interesting, how your actions in the past affect the future, i'd love to see how much further you can take this. I also enjoyed the timer mechanic, I feel like it adds an extra layer of tension. One thing I noticed though, was some weird collisions happening when I try to walk certain areas....I realized after that  in one of those areas there was actually a certain object that was hidden(I won't spoil what).

Developer

Ha yeah that collision issue has been noticed a lot. It's been fixed now that the jam is over. Thanks for your comments, we're glad you liked it.

Thank you for playing we appreciate it!

Hey! Nice concept.

About the 'warp back' timer: I think it would make more sense if the timer was more like the one in Majora's Mask. The player is stuck in a loop that ends with an apocalypse, and he has to stop it. Now, I don't quite understand why is there even a time limit if the player has a time machine)

I liked the idea of having to discover how to stop an apocalypse. One thing though - it would be nice if your past tries had more sense and you didn' have to do the exact same thing every time. It feels like the player's character just loses his memory every time he travels time. For example, there is a contract for Leo, which is marked as 'trash' before you talk to Po. However, next time the player travels time he remembers that this paper is not just trash, but the character seems to not remember that, which is kinda weird) What I'm trying to tell is - it would be great and even more fun if the knowledge you got in the past time travels could be used in the present time travel. Hope you get what I mean)

Overall, nice game and interesting idea!

Developer(+1)

Yeah absolutely I agree. The contract thing was something that i realised right before submission and i realised that the player needed a separate kind of timeline memory to the rest of the game. Definitely something I'd like to add, and also something that opens up a lot more possibilities of past situations.

Thanks so much for the feedback!

Ok I was finally able to rate/play your game! I figured the sound playing from only one side of my headset was an oddity only my computer had (after looking at the comments) so I didn't count it in my ratings!

I find the concept to be thrilling, however there is a huge question I have. If you're going back for a limited amount of time, but you can just always go back whenever you want to. Why would the time frame even matter? What I mean is I don't feel the rush to go fast except to not do it again. It's not like I want to go fast because the music pushes me to do it, it's too chill of a music for that. The wild consequences of one action is interesting though, reminded me of Monkey Island for the silliness!

Overall pretty good, I'm just left wondering if your core mechanic was implemented the most effecient way it could. Hope to see more in the future for sure!

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Hey thanks for the feedback! Glad you got a chance to play.
Yeah I agree, the timer wasn't something I was very happy with at all. It was actually put in near the beginning of the jam with the intention of being a big part of how you spend your time in the past, but as the jam went on I just wasn't able to find a way to increase/decrease the timer in a logical and meaningful way. Probably just was focused on other things. So yeah I totally get it, the timer doesn't really add anything to the game in its current form.

Really nice top-down game! Can imagine it becoming part of something bigger. Love the graphics and animations, and the dialogue is a lot of fun, especially the pirates descending on the town with their sea shanties haha, good job! Check out my game too if you get a chance. Cheers!

Developer

Hey thanks for the feedback, really glad you liked the game!

I had sooo fun with this game!  Amazing : ) great job!

Thankyou!

This is by far my favorite game so far this jam, i LOOOOVE the excellent, deep, smart and creeeeepy plot, the characters had just the right amount of depth. and when I thought I'd beaten it, there was yet another problem to solve. It took a while to play, and I enjoyed every bit of it :D

Developer

Thanks so much! We're so glad you liked it! This comment really made our day!

Submitted(+1)

I'd definitely play a larger version of this game!

Developer(+1)

That's definitly something we would consider with enough interest! Thanks so much. We recently created a twitter account if you're interested please keep in touch https://twitter.com/castle_chicken

Unfortunately I barely use Twitter, but maybe I'll see you somewhere :D

Great art, storyline and such. I also love the music tho.  only some place the player cannot go into  which I thought I could go. Anyway good game. Be sure to check out my game also.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks so much! Appreciate it!
We actually have an update just waiting to go in after the jam to fix this exact issue. We just ran out of time to fix some of boundary collisions. Thanks for your feedback, we hope you play it again once we've updated it :)

Submitted(+1)

I like the music (even though it seems to like my left ear more haha), the art and concept is interesting too. One thing definitely needed improvement is player control, it felt really buggy when changing directions fast while pressing two arrows at once. Other than that, good job!

Developer

Hey thanks for the feedback! Definitely going to be fixing up those controls once the rating period is over!

Submitted(+1)

Really liked how you managed the story. A bit confusing first as I didn't know who to talk to first. I'll definitely come back and play it completely. Collisions can movement can improve, as I found myself stuck multiple times while pressing 2 buttons at the same time. Congratulations!

Developer

Hey thanks a lot, appreciate the feedback. Yeah the issues with movement is a common theme. Honestly just something that slipped my mind while I was focusing on the elements of the game I knew less about like dialogue trees etc.
Glad you liked it anyway :)

Submitted(+1)

It's a really well thought out game. Great story with heavy emphasis on the butterfly effect. I also love that it doesn't sacrifice meaning to highlight how small actions can have aftereffects in the future. Great experience, and must really give a sense of accomplishment when completed.

I say that because, tbh I didn't manage to complete it, got warped back too soon, but I thoroughly enjoyed piecing it all together.

Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback! Really glad you enjoyed it and the concept! Would be interested to know what stage you got up to :) Po's character arc is pretty interesting if you get up to that part :P

Submitted(+1)

I was able to get the test tube, got Leo to fix the chemical leak, and also got Po to transform, but was warped back right then.

Developer (3 edits)

So close! Glad to hear you got some alternate endings, that's what we hoped for people to experience. Thanks for playing!
We are really glad you enjoyed it. Comments like this make our week so thank you! :)
We've got some updates to go in right after the jam but ran out of time for some things. Sense of acomplishment is a great feeling. We also ranked your game, we love seeing meaning in games and appreciated your take on the theme too. There's a great community on here. We hope you play our game again in the future, if you want to keep in touch we just made a twitter account - https://twitter.com/castle_chicken :)

The game is by far very ambitious, probably a little too much for a game jam. The art style was peculiar, maybe a bit too semplicistic in places, but it gets the job done. The 2-frames animations kinda reminds me of old-school South Park episodes (in a good way).

The writing of the game was well done, but I think that the game itself didn't really make justice to it. Movement, collisions and the UI were quite clunky overall, they would need a bit of polish.

I'm very fond of Groundhog Day-esque  media so I surely appreciated the concepts of the game, but such an idea takes a bit more time to be developed to its full potential. Hope you'll keep working on this, great job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the detailed feedback, we really appreciate it. When we had the idea we knew it was pretty ambitious, and basically all of the mechanics of this game were learning experiences for us. It was a lot of fun building a dialogue and decision tree from scratch, but as you pointed out some of the more basic mechanics lost time because of that, ie collisions and movement.
Thanks for the encouragement :)

Submitted(+1)

I liked the effort you put in the story, it must have been really complex to manage it. I liked the art too.

What could have been better:

- Movement is difficult and not natural with only 4 directions

- Collisions with objects could be better handled

Overall good game, i had fun and that s the main thing

Developer

Yeah absolutely agree, movement and collisions really needed more work. we spend a lot of time learning about decision trees and building the dialogue system.
Really glad you had fun :)
