You've managed to produce an emotional game using simple game mechanics, sound and music. That is outstanding! Well done!

Developer

I am happy that you enjoyed the emotions / atmosphere of my game!

Absolutely phenomenal.

I love the way you used very subtle elements to express the different game mechanics, and the radar-effect was intuitive and an excellent use of the theme. The movement was smooth, though I might have sometimes wished that the pulses would come closer together so I could move faster. It was tough to be patient sometimes, but that's part of love I suppose? It's rare that I play a jam game all the way to the end if lose multiple times but Heartbeats kept me going with its excellent design.

Best jam game I've played in a while, and it reminded me a lot of Thomas Was Alone. ^o^

Thank you for the detailed feedback! I really like your interpretation: slowness of the heartbeat = be patient in love. I will be honest I didn't think about that when I designed it ;) I agree that sometimes the player needs to go "blindly"/"randomly" and wait (especially in the open area), I was thinking of tuning the rays length or maybe adding an action which the player can voluntary make an heartbeat :P
Well spotted, "Thomas Was Alone" was a big inspiration for this entry :)

I honestly don’t think a voluntary heartbeat would have improved it. After all you can’t just make your heart pump voluntarily and I think the random wandering was actually a big draw of the game.

Indeed :) Thank you for your insightful comments.

Great idea with some very fitting audio. The visuals were simple yet pleasant to look at. The levels could've been a bit more complex.

Developer

Thank you! My friend who made the sounds will be happy to hear that!
I was struggling with the level design because I didn't want something too easy or too hard. I ended up with something easy but players will in general finish the game. I will definitely try to add more levels and more depth / difficulty to it :)

Great concept, beautifully realised. I love the audio (feeling some thomas was alone vibes in there), it fits perfectly.

Developer(+1)

You are right, you spotted one of the inspiration for the audio :)

First game I try and its already all 5/5 from me. I really like the concept, it makes perfect use of the theme. Its one of those ingenious design concepts that, to me, is simple but at the same time not that obvious.

Developer

Wow, I am so glad that you liked it!

5/5 Innovation wise. Actually, nothing is under 4/5 for me. Great game. This could be an interesting platformer (not around love though, that becomes dull quickly). Nice job.

Developer

Haha, I agree the love part is a bit too much for a "normal" game :) Thanks for the feedback!
