How does your game fit the theme?
It's about descending into the depths.

(After some testing, I've realize that half the content is locked out due to a bug. Ah well! Next time I'll do better ^^)

Did you write all the code and made all the assets from scratch?
I wrote all the code. I purchased the 3d models, animations and audio files.

Hey there played your game and recorded it. Its really impressive for a game jam and especially for a week. Good job! I like turn based strategy games.

It's pretty impressive for a gamejam, but I'm not much of a turn-based JRPG fan and wished it was faster (not really a problem with the game). Good job!

I love these oldschool styled JRPGs! I think this has a great chance for commercial success so I will give you all the feedback I can think of.
Graphics/Audio was very pleasing,  you did a great job on that front and I have nothing to say about it. I especially liked the animation.
I thought the gameplay loop for this demo was a little repetitive, since the enemies were so weak there was nothing I needed to do besides spam the attack key and wait for them to die. I think it would have benefited from higher jumps of difficulty between combats.
I liked the circle animation that tells who gets initiative when taking turns, but I think it could be tuned up a bit to be faster because I didn't like waiting so long between rounds. I have a similar attitude towards attack animations, it would be nice for them to be sped up a bit more too or at least have the option for it in settings.
I think you did a good job with the UI, everything looked crisp. I think enemy health bars need to be added though, it's important for this kind of strategy game so the player has more agency with how they want to approach the fight.

Overall, your game is really shaping up and I can't wait to see it on the Steam store! Good luck!

Hey, really awesome game project you have here! Brings me back to the days of JRPGs on the PS1 & 2! You obviously have put a lot of time and effort into creating this game, and I see that you're planning on bringing the base game to steam which is awesome! I've been trying to keep my playthroughs to ~15 mins max but ended up playing this for 40 minutes because I really wanted to encounter a tougher fight.

You obviously have a lot of time invested in this game and so in the grand scheme of things my criticism is all minor. My biggest gripe is just that there is no health bar or indicator for the enemies, which makes it a guessing game in terms of which enemy to attack or how far into a battle you are. While this isn't a huge deal in a lot of game, I find turn based RPGs to me more strategic/tactical and deciding which attack or item to use and which enemy to focus on is really hindered by not having a metric to gauge the enemies health. I hope that doesn't come off as too harsh, I really did enjoy my time playing!

Anyway, here's my lengthy gameplay video playthrough. I was really trying to wait for youtube to process it in HD but its been 2 hours already so I'm just going to leave it here and recommend you wait for it to process fully 😅

Man, Jordan, you're the MVP. This video was incredibly insightful. Thank you so much!

I've got a lot of work ahead, a lot to improve. Your video and commentary really helped me highlight some of the areas that need work.

Aaaaand, there isn't a healthbar. BUT when you target enemies, the arrow above them can either be green  (>50% hp), yellow (>25% hp) or red (<25% hp). This detail, among many others, are going to have to be taught to the player very early. Don't wanna keep anyone guessing!

Hey man you're welcome! It was fun to play through for sure, I wouldn't have spent so long on it if it wasn't lol. Glad to hear my feedback was useful!

Also, looking back I feel like kind of an idiot that I didn't pick up on the colors being a health indicator. I think maybe a factor of that could be that so many of the enemies are weaker and are generally >25% HP and the green and yellow can look a bit similar if you're not already looking for it. Glad to hear that it exists though, it's definitely useful in a game like this!

Impressive what can be done in a week, especially solo. Well done!

Submitted(+1)

Hey, that was amazing! Can't believe it was done just in a week!

Definitely love it

Had great time with this game!

This is absolute stunning. Whole style and atmosphere is awesome, also with the story.

The combat system could maybe need a bit balancing, for me it seemed like always just using the first attack and put it on the first enemy seems to be enough to win.  So was a bit repetitive.

But all in all an awesome game, that has definitely potential for the Top 10!

P.S.: After checking out your twitter and also saw your response on a comment from yesterday, a little comment:  I think it's completely legit to use the jam as marketing material... So nothing against it, and i rated it (and keep that), as if it would have been fully developed within one week.

But I just think also that's it's a bit unfair to put it in an contest. You maybe at least should give this information to people ;-)

Nevertheless wish you much success, the game definitely has potential!

Wow you made rpg combat, enemies a text system and a story and you bought assets just for a game jam game. If you don't win this jam I will personally hold everyone who didn't rate 4 or 5 on this accountable

Submitted(+1)

Wow that was impressive. I was playing for about an hour and it just kept going. From the UI, to the combat, the game is very well polished and looks great. I can't believe you did all this in a week. This has potential to the win the game jam. Well done!

Submitted(+1)

Woah, this is very polished for a jam game. or any game for that matter! You have a very solid base for something really incredible here. I'll have to keep an eye on this going forward. Well done!

Submitted(+1)

Wow! I'm blown away by this one. So much went into every little detail, from the near perfect feeling controls to the playable sprite changing when you switch who is first in the formation. Its hard to even believe this was made in one week. All around highest quality game I've seen so far. Amazing work!

Submitted(+1)

It is a really well full complete game as it stands, but I can imagine it being a much longer and enjoyable experience with a little bit of polish! I can appreciate it was made within a week and with that its amazing! If you continued developing this after the jam and made the game look photo realistic rather than low poly it would be something you could 100% Charge money to play!

I don't think it's very fair to make a game jam game based on an already released game. Obviously you can't make that much content in a week. The similarities with your previous game are too great.

Developer

Legend of the Wargod is still in development and has NOT been released yet. I used the tools I'm using to build the game to build this - and I did build all content in 7 days.
Infact, I made way more content than is available to play, because of a bug at stage 3.4ish where the map is wrongly configured and the player can't advance.

Such is life!

If you're interested, follow development:

This is better than most AAA games :P

So it is time to write a comment. First of all it was nice to see Skyrim references. I liked the graphics, ui, sounds. Even main menu has incredible look. But ui was a bit complicated to me. Please add esc button to turn back command. Some kind of props like table, chain, goblet, rock etc. can be added to rooms. Combat was solid. Most of the creatures can not be stunned and that made me sad while playing but it is just my preference. Equipments, abilities, and features were more than enough but I couldn't feel the effect of them. I just run to the next combat and fight. But all of them aside amazing game for a jam in a week. I can even say that it is an admirable game even if it was not in 1 week. If you did all this alone you better keep going on game development :)

I want to rate this but don't see a ZIP file! This upload is incompatible with my computer for some reason. It looks cool though!
