This is really great, I remember when I saw the first gif of the 3d mode activating in discord I was mind blown. The core mechanic reminds me a lot of Super Paper Mario, makes me wonder how we never saw a puzzle game in that 2d/3d swap style until now.

I had to give up on the second ball puzzle. I almost gave up on the first ball puzzle but I finally figured it out. For a long time I was trying to get a bounce-off-the-wall to get the ball to hit the switch twice style approach but that turned out to be a red herring, and I'm glad the physics didn't allow me to get "almost there" since that would have been more frustrating than finally realizing "ok, the ball just doesn't bounce back when hitting walls, that's just how it is."

The real approach to that first ball puzzle was definitely a great example of divergent thinking. I'm better at puzzle games where you can slowly build up a solution from less complex parts but this game demands very creative solutions, which I imagine is harder to design but leads to a bigger "aha moment", unfortunately I couldn't figure out the next level but I'm betting it requires a similar creative synthesis of all the elements that I just can't think of yet.

Thanks for playing and for the details, I’m always curious to know the specifics of how people fare so I can improve. I’m glad you stuck it out and got as far as you did. I know the first ball puzzle stumps quite a few people but I think it’s a fair challenge. On the other hand I’m not particularly happy with the last level and I can’t fault people for not clearing it. Now that you mention it, it’s a case of exactly what you said—the physics almost allowing people to do something, but not exactly as they want it to, leading to frustration. It’s the only level that actually requires physics simulation and if I continue development I’ll take that in much heavier consideration. Thanks again!

This is a very fun game! I'm impressed you were able to do this in 2.5 weeks! Lots of interesting puzzles and love the mechanic of swapping between 2d and 3d

COG GET!

Really nice implementation of a simple idea with clean simple visuals. Wish there was a better indication of where I was in the orthographic view (I kept missing the hole in that button level!) but no real complaints aside from that. Nice game!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Just curious, were you able to rotate the camera to be top-down in that level? That’s what is intended and I’ve seen people do that, so I’d like to know if there’s some issue I haven’t seen yet.

Submitted

I thought it was a fixed perspective :P that explains a lot, thanks!

Developer

Thank you for letting me know! There is a graphic showing the controls for moving the camera in the first level but it looks like I might need to make it more apparent. The power of playtesting!

Submitted(+1)

Super fun title, the visuals are awesome. I also struggled with that second to last puzzle, but it was def doable. Overall, one of my favorite entries.

Submitted(+1)

Great game and excellent use of the ortho camera! Each level thoughtfully adds something new to think about, and the last two puzzles are quite challenging! Good job!

Beautiful game. The puzzles were very fun, and it was a neat take on the theme. Really liked what you've made here. Very clean aesthetic and very well done.

Awesome game! It’s a brain teaser with cool perspective shifts. Art is clean and clear, and the puzzles get tricky. Great job on this game! Mouse control of 3D was fun to look around at the world in.

i beat the game!!! i feel like a genius!!! i was stuck on the final level, my friends watching couldn't figure it out either, but i had a solution i kept trying to do that everyone thought was a cheese strategy - it eventually worked, and turns out that's the intended solution!! i think that final level is actually great, but maybe there's some better way to communicate that that isn't an unintended strategy? i definitely felt like i cheated until i saw your other reply in these comments. otherwise, this game is outstanding!! it's super well made, and the fez-like perspective shift mechanic is REALLY well done and mind-bending! i also love how you did the art style - it must've been hard to get this working exactly the way you wanted in both 2d and 3d. incredible job!!!!

Developer(+1)

Oh my goodness thank you for the glowing review!! You don’t just feel like a genius, you ARE a genius 🤓 I think one of the main flaws with that level is it requires the player to do something I didn’t introduce earlier, so as you said the intended solution feels like cheese. This is my first game jam and I’ve been floored by how supportive and wholesome everyone’s been!

Submitted(+1)

actually, (first time using spoiler dropdowns on itch, so hopefully this works ^^”)

i was convinced from the start that i would need to roll the ball at some point! i compared it to chekhov's gun - just as a gun should eventually be fired, a ball should eventually be made to roll. i figured that if you never expected the player to roll it, then you would've instead made it just a cube. one solution might be to make it so the ball doesn't roll backwards as the platform moves forwards? that way, the intended solution would feel less jank. it'll use some more tuning, but it is a really good puzzle in my opinion!

Instantly gave me Fez feel, but with twist. I love when I see puzzle games in jams and this one isn't an exception. Lovely made puzzles with a charming art style, really nice entry!

This was an awesome entry! I feel like we had similar ideas to have perspective swapping modes, but both took them in completely different directions. When I got to the first "!" level, I was floored. Great implementation of a super cool mechanic. Nice job!

What a rad idea, great job. Great use of dimensionality, clean and consistent aesthetic, and great mind-bending puzzles. My only gripe would be that the last puzzle is a bit obtuse (or at least the way I solved it was). Maybe I'm just a dummy. Regardless, a great, tight package. Good work!

Developer

Thank you! Congrats on finishing. As far as I know you’re the second person to finish it without hints so you’re far from a dummy. I agree, after watching a few people play through it I’m not particularly happy with the last puzzle but that’s just how the game jam cookie crumbles.

My favorite game of the jam so far! There is a solution to every level even if it may not seem like it at first. Stick with it and you will be rewarded! Great music, awesome visuals (love the design of the player character), stimulating puzzles that prod the imagination, and smooth game mechanics.

Developer

That’s incredibly high praise, thank you so much!! I wasn’t able to stick around, were you able to finish the last level without any pointers? You breezed through the bulk of the game, I was really impressed!

Submitted(+1)

Yes! Though it took me a while to figure it out.

Developer(+1)

I think that makes you the first, awesome job!

Wonderful game! Creative puzzles, clean minimalist aesthetic and really fun and well implemented mechanics to play with. Amazing job!

For the life of me I couldn't figure out how to get the last cog in level 4 (the first ball level), I spent a good while.

Seriously though, what an amazing concept and execution. The style is simple but fits so well, and the switch from 2D to 3D is seamless.

You really went hard on the challenging aspect of the puzzles, my head hurt.

Developer

Thank you for the kind words and for sticking to it!

Hint/answer if you're curious: Left side of the level should be pretty straightforward, you need to drop the ball on the button, climb up the moving block, then reset the ball to get pushed up.

For the right hand side, you need to get the ball to hit the button without dropping it on the button in 3D mode. You do not need to reset the ball at all to complete the right side of the level.

Great idea. I gotta ask, is there a solution for the second ball puzzle?  I know that the ball needs to get to the O button, but I can't find a way. The ball just rolls off the moving platform.

Developer

Thank you for playing! That’s the final level and I’m glad to hear folks have made it there, it’s hard to judge puzzle difficulty without playtesting. I got to watch someone play it on stream and I can definitely see it’s not the best design for a puzzle, I’d scrap it if I could now.

Here's how that level is supposed to work: You need to stay in 2D mode, beneath and to the right of where the ball spawns. As soon as the ball lands on the square button, push it onto the moving platform and stay sitting on the button. As long as the ball isn't pushed too quickly or too slowly, it'll ride the platform to the circle button. You also need to switch to 3D partway through the ball's ride to prevent it from hitting the wall on the way there.

The person I watched ended up pushing the ball onto the moving platform in 3D mode and as you can probably guess it kept rolling off to the side before it made it to the circle button. Congrats on making it there!

You have officially dethroned FEZ

Wow the camera shift on this is so good. Great puzzles included.

fez but the dev is actually really nice

Super cool game! the perspective switching is an awesome mechanic that works really well. The transition is super smooth. I tried for a while but just could not figure out how to beat the level with the ball. But really amazing job! Also COGMO is super cute

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Let me know if you're curious about the solution.

Oh yes I would like to know.

Really cool game, I love how well you made the perspective shifting look and feel when using it! Great opportunity for many different puzzles and expansion

Developer

Thanks for playing! There were tons of other ideas I had but they had to get cut. Hoping to expand on this.
