How does your game represent Mode?
I interpret mode as switching between states. In this instance the player character switches between 2 moods - a gentleman and a badman. The game also asks the player to switch between control modes. In gentleman mode, the player only uses their mouse. In badman mode, the player uses only their keyboard.

I really like this game, I'd never truly felt like a mulleted mustachio'd man walking down a street until today. Clicking on random people to heal felt like giving finger gun gestures to random people on the street to work up my confidence before the next badman encounter, I enjoyed that experience.

The art style is really awesome and striking and I too enjoy making games using vanillajs, that's gamedev on hard mode right there, and the visual effects and presentation in this game are extra impressive to me given that fact.

This is good silly fun. Love the stylized clean characters. And one of the best uses of "mode" i've seen so far!

Neat!

When I booted the "how to play" screen I was immediately like "oh boi how am I going to memorize those buttons" but THANK GOD then the UI shows me what to press when the mode itself changed. Really appreciate that

This is actually pretty fun, and the art style really looks good. I love how smooth the movements are!

Really impressive that this was built in JS! Awesome work. What a bad man!

Are we sure he's bad, and not misunderstood? Fun game :)

The badman seems so sad lol I enjoyed the punchout vibes this game has and the overall style is bleeding all over the game!

My game is really similar! Its really funny! But yours is much better executed and i really like your art style!

I second everyone's questioning about how bad the "BADMAN" is... Great game and excellent polish!

Mad props for putting out something so polished without the help of an engine! loved the art style & audio effects. And is badman really a badman?

Submitted(+1)

No engine is impressive, so first of all congratulations on that!

Love the graphics and how well everything is put together, very very clean

a few sound effects would definitely improve the feeling of the game

Overall good entry for a solo dev!

Excellent game with beautiful visuals and addictive gameplay loop. Obviously some music and sfx would be good but your game is spectacular even without them!

This aesthetics in this game are 5 stars from me. Wish there was some sound, though. I know you said the animations need some work but overall this is really solid. and its an amazing entry! Good job!

Developer

Appreciate it! I might try and add sound in the future.

Pretty cool how you managed to make a game like this without a fully fledged engine! Fun and simple art style and of course gotta love the punchout gameplay.

I did have trouble with dodging because at first the attacks didn't feel very communicated to the player.

Very solid entry!

Developer

Thank you! Agreed on the dodging. I'd say this is down to needing to telegraph the badman's attacks a little better using animation. Might look into this in the future.

Really impressed you worked this up without an engine! Found one tiny bug where if you hit the badman (who by the by seems very nice were it not for the punching) you can dance battle him to a defeat. But he still got me right before I got to the store so clearly that says a lot about how good I am at PunchOut games... Impressive (and v. cute) entry!

Thanks so much for playing and the kind words. Haha, I love this bug - appreciate the gif!
