What a funny stealth game! I didn't get too far because I suck at stealth games but just seeing your screenshots hints at how much content I have yet to get to. It's amazing that this is the programmer's first game, there's a lot of components to this game that are pretty difficult to crack into for beginner game devs but not only was it done but it was done pretty well! My critique is that if you are interested in doing another platformer, I would recommend considering implementing jump buffering and coyote time to make the platforming more forgiving, as well as decreasing the hit box on the guards so that it's more obvious that the player was caught. Great job!
Thanks for playing it and the feedback!
We indeed faced the various challenges you mentionned concerning the platform phase but since it was my first time programming a video game, we decided to workaround them. For example, I didn't know exactly how to implement jump buffering and coyotte jumps, so we decided to extend the player's hitbox a little bit on the X-axis. Which made the player more reachable for the enemies as a side effect. To save time, we "cheated" again by designing all the levels arounds those flaws. We tried to teach the player that enemies could reach you from one tile below in the 4th level of the game, for instance.
Had we had more time, the game would have been completely different :)
Can't believe I can finally play as a corporate kitty slave LOLOL This game is so cute! I love the meowing mechanic really making me stop and think about the path of the guards. I found the level where you had to climb up in a ladder way (for lack of better description) to be somewhat challenging because I kept hitting my head on the blocks and cutting my jump short;; overall it was a really fun and intuitive game!
AMAZING LEVEL DESIGN.
it was so exciting and the Pixel arts are adorable (=ↀᆺↀ=)✧
Great Game :D
It's really cute and fun, the visuals aren't that bad. The game mechanic is simple and the music relaxes the player when playing the game. The dialogues on the start is very buggy, the dialogues should change when the images also change at the same time. The instruction is simple as the player has to move left, right, and jump, not falling to pits, and not getting caught from the line of sight of the enemies. The enemies' line of sight is a bit messed up, where somehow they still can see the player while there was a solid block covering the player. Also, I noticed that the AI can't stop moving, i.e. it must move at any direction. If not, it will do as if it was glitching, non-stop moving left and right. It is also a good idea to get the enemies attention by "meowing" and turning the enemies to move at that direction while the player is hiding. It's really fun and enjoyable to play, hopefully you'll get back to this game and work on several bugs there. Great job!
First of all, thanks for playing ! we're really glad you had fun. I'll try to address all the aforementionned issues:
- The dialogues: it's buggy and we know it but didn't have time to fix it before the submission. It will be the first thing i'll try to solve on the next update
- Enemies' line of sight: At first it was a limitation of our coding skill. Because of the time constraint of the game jam, we had to build the levels before being able to fix this issue. This funny line of sight became consequently part of the game mechanics. Now, even though I would be able to fix this issue with some raycasting, I'm a little bit afraid of breaking the whole level design by doing so.
- Glitchy Left/Right dance: This is the enemie's way to not get bored... just kidding, that's some glitch I hope I can solve on the next update.
We didn't really know if we could fix these bugs after the submission since they're not game breaking. So we will patch the game afterwards.
Thanks again for playing and taking the time for posting your feedback. I'm also personally glad you enjoyed the music since I took the insane decision to make it myself on top of all the work we already had x).
This was a really cute and fun game, I actually really liked it. The dialogue at the start was a little difficult to read though and the image of who was speaking would change whilst the last text remained which made it a little confusing to follow who was who. The instructions were clear, the art is cute especially when his little head is peeking through the box. Overall, the most complete game I've seen so far! Great job. ♡♡
Thank you so much for your comment. We are aware of the aforementionned difficulties but we are waiting for the end of the jam to fix all the bugs and smartphone support. I hope it didn't remove the fun of it.
Anyway, thank you again, your feedback means a lot for us since we spent so much time and work into this project :)!
Levels are cool, art is pretty good, Meow on point and mechanics were ok. I liked the game!
