Very enjoyable, just needs the driving to feel a little solider and not swerve quite so much :-)

love it :D

Developer

Thank you! We are glad you enjoyed the game.

Though the concept is similar with the other game of switching between cars this game does benefit from a better implementation of camera. But I found myself asking while playing, "why should I switch" because in the other game I had to ("because of bombs"). Took a little fun out of it.

Otherwise I loved the retro music and announcements at the beginning of the car race. The 3 tracks are well designed, although I found myself drifting off quite a bit on the second one.

Also would have liked an option to choose levels and a fullscreen toggle.

Good job anyways!

Developer

Thank you for all your feedback, we appreciate it. Unfortunately we weren't able to get level select in for the jam with how intensive this project already was. This was our first 3d project in Godot, or at all! So we were kind of learning the ropes as we go. I unfortunately forgot to change the player speed before exporting...which is why there was no incentive to switch. With the higher player speed, it 's easier to drift out by making sharp turns, so it's safer to get passed the cars by switching with them. I do however think that it was a fun test to see how well the game could be as a full game. So thanks for all your great feedback!

Also levels 2 and 3 are randomized so you will either get the winter or the space track depending on your play through. We wern't able to get to more levels unfortunately, so the effect wasn't as pronounced.

Developer

Oh, and there is a full screen toggle! It's under the controls on the game page!

Developer

Thanks! There is a fullscreen toggle actually, bound on F11. The level design was done entirely by Gruntled and man is he good at it! Choosing levels is a good idea as well, we plan to have more levels and do a grand-prix like selection of four levels you get to play at a time. Thank you so much for the feedback!

Wow! Just wow. I have so many questions! Did you do a devlog perchance? I'd love to see how you two made this and so quickly! The levels are amazing, I loved the shortcut on lv 2. And the car movement was so buttery smooth. It felt like there was suspension on the car, I have no idea how you did it.

Developer(+1)

I am actually currently planning to do a devlog at my youtube channel, which you can find the link to the channel on the games page! I'm planning on doing a full on first dev log since we will be making the game a full game soon, so you can stay tuned for that! And also thank you for the compliments. This was our first ever 3d game so we really appreciate it!

WOW! Great levels and environments, all three were so good. That added to the fun of the game for sure. I like the switch mechanic too!

Sometimes if I bumped the car too hard the camera/car would spin out. It was hard to recover after that so maybe adding some power ups (like super speed) would be a cool feature.

I am so impressed by the feel of the game. I liked the physics based racer concept and it came out great.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! The level design was all Gruntled, and I agree he did a stellar job on it. We hope to fix the camera issues in a full release, that darned thing gave us so many problems I'm surprised it's as tolerable as it is. Powerups are a great idea, something we hope to add to the final game. Thanks again for the feedback!

Super cute! I loved the different levels and their environments. I love the idea of switching cars, super creative and fits the theme perfectly! However, I often found there wasn't a lot of reason to switch cars. I would either get too far ahead/behind that I wouldn't be near any cars(that's probably just an issue with my skills lol) but the main thing that stopped me from wanting to switch is that it did throw me off when switching cars and I would spin out or go off the track immediately after switching.

I also do really like the idea of a physics racer; when I usually think of racing games I think of Mario Kart and Crash Team and while they're fun in their own ways, they're not really physics-based so I totally dig the concept of a physics racer!

Great job! :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback yo, yeah I realized when playing Switch it Back that there wasn't a real incentive for switching in our game, where Bump it Back did a great job of motivating the player to use the main mechanic. Definitely will be on our list of fixes for a full release, along with the spinning out and crashing which were mostly a result of the time constraints we were under. Getting too far ahead and behind is something we'll also have to work on that didn't come up in our own testing, so thanks for mentioning it!

Like you said on my page, we did have pretty similar concepts, I think your camera implementation is definetly better, although it does freak out a bit when I fall slightly off the track and enter a spin fall, maybe you can improve that when you continue the game, and I also suggest you add some icentive for the player to switch cars, the three tracks were really fun to drive on, although I did manage to get stuck under the track near the end of the third one

Developer(+1)

Thanks for your feedback! And yeah, getting stuck was partially due to not having time to polish the levels unfortunately. I hope you enjoyed the game though!

And the camera being weird was due to forgetting to turn up the smoothing, so we decided to say it's a design choice. Lol. The game was basically designed around the idea of a ragdoll physics car game that still felt like you were in control until you got hit.

I think you've really nailed that idea, with a better camera, more fleshed out levels and maybe an incentive to switch between vehicles I could see this being a very fun timewaster game I can fire up and play for a while

Developer(+1)

That's awesome! Yeah we've even got plans for online multiplayer as well, so that will be really fun to learn with a more stable foundation for the game design

good luck! multiplayer does sound fun

Thanks! Good luck to you as well!
