Do you have a fan base?

Do you have fans?  Supporters?  People willing to donate to you projects?   How did you obtain them?   Why do they support you?   What advice can you offer others struggling to gain support for their games?

...no :D getting active players for your games is pretty hard imo. I'm still on the phase to see how to consistently get players, because it really feels luck-based imo. Maybe a player will find you? maybe they will think your cover image is good enough? maybe they will play the game? maybe they will like it? maybe they will even see your profile... tbh, only like 10 people will find your game on the "newest" tab, sooooo

I  think we need a site or a forum called "Gamers meet Game Devs".   I  think having floods of gamers who can test play games (maybe for free) would help build followings and fan bases

The only problem is that gamers want high quality games, and the sort of games that would be on that platform are bad ones. If your game is good and is what players want, it will naturally gain a following. Also, any sort of vetting system for a platform like that would get overloaded and only a few games would get promoted.

No, it’s hard. Games would need something like a volunteer media manager to help with marketing.

i have some followers but not a fan base its hard getting your games noticed with self promotion

I have a teeny tiny fanbase that will give me a few dollars and a pack of gum. Idk what I did to receive them lol

So far, my friends and people I know in person are looking forward to my game and its updates.

I can probably guess about 4 people I know are very interested in the game and want to see more.

I guess close friends who like your game can count as a fan base.

I have the same, building a fanbase is hard. But I feel like by interacting with everyone here on itch.io is at least a good start : ))

You have to keep grinding and promoting. Things slowly grow over time if you are consistent.

But following what strategy? Where can you promote your games yourself?

I suppose on personal social media, is that what you mean by “being consistent”?

Thank you for your comment and have a nice day!

Weirdly enough i do, just a tiny one tho, but big enough to warrant making a discord for peeps who like my stuff. It's weird but nice, even if a lot of them can get a bit rowdy, >.>

Mostly they just found me on here and before that they knew me for making flash games, back when they were a thing.

As for advice, don't make stuff you think others will like, just make what ever you want to make, share it where you think it'll do ok, and remain consistent on uploads, make a schedule if you have to, then peeps tend to naturally flow in, :3
