Does anyone even like our payment processors?

I don't. outside of the horrible things they're currently doing, the service is uncomfortable to use; they're invasive, their systems suck, their apis are garbage; anonymity is sacrificed for a false uncomfortable "convenience" where you are very likely to be hacked and your details exposed, and nobody can compete. They fill the world with plastic, and e-waste and other pollution, they take no accountability, their customer service is atrocious, and they've literally created global scams (remember Honey? I do), I do not like paypal I do not like mastercard and lets face it; you probably don't either. Their services are absolute garbage and always have been, the only reason any of us use them is because we can't get rid of them, they are the corporate mosquitos of the modern connected world. would anyone be upset if they were broken up tomorrow by anti trust action, or if everyone on earth moved to a competitor in a flash? Anyways I wanted to talk about them outside of the itch and steam situation since they became relevant all of a sudden and see what you guys had to say.

What about methods where you issue a transfer order directly to your bank? Like wire transfer and SEPA transfer?

I actually used to do that a long time ago but my bank started charging more for it so I stopped. it also became much less covenant as more security became involved.

It costs about $ 25 - $ 100 to send money to other countries.

PayPal's actions have utterly sickened me.
My hope is that Itch.io gets a new Payment Processor ASAP and fixes this mess.

Elon Musk is building one, Steam said they also want to seek alternatives, and I believe the three may be related.

yea, no.  that's not any better, and is probably worse.

(1 edit)

I'm not going to spread negativity, I do not know how it will work nor how well it will work. but I'd welcome any competition in the space at this point. why is it that there are 9 thousand fiscal institutions in the united states and 7 online payment processors?

Sometimes negativity is deserved.  Musk is not going to save payment processing anymore than he saved automobiles.  And given his behavior towards his daughter and tyrannical approaching to managing Twitter, I wouldn't be surprised if a hypothetical payment processor made by Musk banned all LGBTQ+ content.

Another one? Musk was involved in the creation of Paypal.

Based on how Musk is acting the last decades, nothing he would build is to be trusted.
