Yeah i'm about on the same page. I like it well enough, just not wrapping my head around everything as easily as I'd like.
I switched to Godot from libGDX. Love it.
I've used Godot for several of my games (including my latest, Oakley's World).

godot is the best game engine and everyone who says otherwise will be personally kicked in the ribcage by me(i am definetely not held at gunpoint by mr. godot himself forcing me to say this btw!)

Godot is fantastic for 2D. In comparison: Unreal is overkill for 2D (3D only) and Unity's license is unappealing. Godot has all the tools you need for simple games.
