Active Community Interaction? Devs gone missing?

Well it looks like this community has been abandoned by the game devs. Nothing from them in over 22 days. Disappointing that there appears to be no further response to the bugs and issues that we have all encountered in V1.0.1. It really feels like we started off well and had good feedback and now it has all dried up. Anyone else starting to feel abandoned?

Patience, my dear friend. Shiite happens.

While, yes, we all supported this game years ago. And yes, I actually really enjoy the game (probably my favorite game I've played thus far in 2020, which is saying something, despite the bugs!). And yes, I do wish we would hear back from them (even if it's not about the next release, just interacting on the forum). I also do realize, they're a really small team. I am not even entirely sure how involved Scott has been in the whole process, due to his health issue he had (check his Twitter for more). So that seems like it reduces it down to just Mark doing the writing and the coding, with Chris helping out. I believe pcjr is also helping in some regard (not sure if he's coding, but I know he has a hand in the game development somewhere). There might be a few others helping, I am not sure. But as someone who has had a hellish year myself with a ton of very serious medical issues, I can definitely see how it just takes one wheel to come loose to make things come to a crawl.

And they could be, for all we know, pulling their hair out trying to fix some of the bugs we've encountered. Some of them seem unusually random which means finding the fix may be difficult.

So, I don't think they abandoned us at all. I just think they're either working on trying to fix the game (we've not even seen anything past the desert planet yet), or they may have things going on (small team, one wheel loose, slows it all down), or it could be a mixture of both.

We've waited a long time to get here - where we are now. I've enjoyed what I've seen. I'm willing to be patient and be ready for whenever the next build comes out.

'All good things, ' and all that.

(1 edit) (+2)

Even if they didn't finish the game -- after the "you are not helping, Rooter!" scene, I consider I have already gotten my money's worth of laughs!

(1 edit) (+1)

That was really funny. I loved that part of the game. Because of that, and because of the R5-D4 in the corner.

Was looking through my old memes folder when I found this gem I'd rushed together years ago, using another image someone shared on the facebook page. I think I know what happened to Mark...

That's hilarious!

Beta 1.0.2 is about to drop.

(+5)

It's been 50 days since the last developer post on this forum, and it's coming up to six months since the last Kickstarter update. Please could we have an update?

(+4)

So I did ask - and Chris let me know today - that there should be an update soon.

They've been working on the Save/Load feature.

(+1)

How're they all faring? Good spirits and good health I hope.

(+1)

I hope. I am not sure. I've just been fortunate enough to have an open communication with them about the ßeta.

(+4)

It's a shame they don't feel like doing that with the rest of the community. And I don't mean they should answer in every topic around here, but some sort of actual presence would be nice.

Agreed. It would be nice. But I imagine they're stretched thin. I am not sure how involved Scott is after his health issues emerged. So I imagine it's just Mark powering through the programming with Chris and whatever other small staff they have - doing some initial testing. But poking in from time to time to say, "We've not forgotten you guys!" would be nice; just not sure how possible it is.

(+3)

poking in from time to time, writing a short message takes a couple of minutes. It isn't a terrible task or a burden even if they are only now basically a hobby project. They don't have to write detailed descriptions on what they do, just a line showing that there is someone working on this project would be nice considering how long this has already taken.

Not sure why you feel the need to defend them when their behaviour went way past indefensible a long time ago. It's been two months since any developer communication on this forum (or anywhere else) and it takes five minutes to write a few sentences about what they're working on and when they expect to provide another build. It's safe to assume that at the nine year point of this project they're not working on it so hard that they can't find that amount of time.

(+1)

Maybe because I am an old man. I've learned - or try to - release the things that cause me frustration and try to embrace understanding. Walk a mile in my shoes, type of thing. Sure, it's been a long time - maybe way too long - since this KS started - and where it is now. But I guess I have other things (games, life, whatever) to occupy my time, so waiting here for this doesn't bug me.

(+3)

I am sure everyone saw the update - not sure if there's a beta version of the pre-save/load fix - that we will be testing.

(+1)

Indeedy do!  Very close now!

(1 edit) (+1)

I do hope they release a beta build before going live. While it was possible to play the previous version through, it was far from being a stable experience.

(+2)

Ugh, I still don't think it's ready. Last time I tried playing it, I was still getting major bugs and crashes. It won't be recieved with praise if it's released a mess.

(+2)

Yeah, there would need to have been quite a lot more changes than just Save/Load.  Guess we'll see.

(+1)

I'd fix the horrible inventory system over Save/Load. It's like it's intended for smart phone touch screen.

(+1)

Any updates?  It's approaching six months since last beta release

(+3)

I did reach out to Pope - and he told me that they're still working on the SAVE GAME mechanic and touching up some other things.

But he did say no ETA as of yet (but that was like a few weeks ago).

I'm guessing things are kicking their butts both with the panoramic and the save system.  Kinda how it goes sometimes; Fix one thing and break a bunch of others. As humorous as the mental image of Data from TNG speed typing game code is, everything takes time. If you rush, you get Cyberpunk'd.

Anyone know if any of the team are in hot zones?

I think what could work is creating "check" points rather than allowing for save games. That way you can pre-define check points. The only thing then would be programming what inventory items are there. And that could be as easy (maybe?) as:

Wrench=1
BoltA=0
BoltB=1

And exporting those into the check point - and importing that from the check point save.

That way you don't need to worry about saving on every screen - or where Ace was standing when the game was saved.

Downside - takes away the freedom from saving whenever to quit - but if you do enough check points, it shouldn't matter.

(+2)

Check Points are nice, though manual save/ auto saves are just as nice too. But then the age old mantra must be chanted by all, "Save early, save often."

Either way, I hope the crew is doing well and staying safe.

Agreed - ideally, the save anytime function is what I'd want.

But I would be fine (and it would probably appease others waiting - if this was even an easier option - I don't know if it is) - but the Auto Save spots (when you reach Screen X - auto save, write inventory items to file).

And then later, release an update that allows you to save whenever/where ever.

Again, not even sure if the "Auto Save" function is easier (just seems easier in my head - and that's a scary place). :)

(+1)

"At least I'm safe inside my mind."

Having both options has served me well in games like Fallout. "I'm gonna kick down this door and go in guns blazing...! Lemme just quick save."
Die horribly, reload, try another route. lol Kind of like Save states with emulators.

Anyone heard from Pope?  Are they still working out the save game mechanics?

Yes, I have. Back in April of this year.

Wasn't much of an update (essentially, yes working on it, no, no ETA yet) - here's what he got back to me with -

Hey Tawmis,
Unfortunately no ETA. We are getting closer though. Lots of internal testing happening. We will then release to beta testers. No point in beta testing until we have worked out the stuff we are noticing wrong.
Thanks!
