Nah!
Just search for "[your engine here] metriodvania tutorial" and you should get many resources where you can get a grasp of how to implement the basic stuff. I will suggest to start doing this now so you have a backlog of filtered videos/blogs to check to during the jam.
Try to keep your scope really small. Check this blog to get an idea of what is an "small metroidvania"

Mi problem is with rule 8:
- If you're using a runtime like Flash, Pico8, Scratch, etc... the runtime will count toward the size of your game.
I don't really know how to measure "runtime".
