I know this is a very silly idea but I do have a reason. I want to upload a very big game to itch.io (at least 5GB) and I know itch’s max upload limit (with butler) is a wooping 30GB! Still I know the bandwidth cost of hosting the game files is very high, so I don’t feel right with letting itch take on all the cost. I want an option to enable donations but all donations just goto itch. This is because I’m not going to setup payments to myself (and then set itch’s share to 100%) as it takes too much work and I think I’d need to request payout every single time for that money to be sent to itch.

Sorry for the rambling and good night.

try and build it yourself, the bug was fixed about a year after this project was released: https://github.com/renpy/renpyweb/pull/28

I do them in individual packs because it’s easier to do a little bit and post it than to work on a big asset pack

What I think you should do is create a single asset pack and post subsequent content updates to it, rather than creating entirely new asset packs for the exact same thing.

hehe, just make a basic discord server and post the link here so we can slowly fill up the server, then when u comeback you have a nice little community going.

Make sure to post the server link in all of your games not just this one

make one or we will riot

I’m currently in the process of conceptualizing an intriguing system for a game I’m developing and would greatly value your input.

The mechanic I’ve been considering involves implementing a randomized potion recipe system. At the start of each new game, the world would generally retain the same pool of ingredients (gleaned from activities such as monster hunting or harvesting various plants), but the true twist lies in the potion recipes. They will be randomized for each playthrough, creating a unique and novel experience every time.

The idea is to challenge the player in a captivating way. From the onset, players will have access to low-grade potion recipes, generously shared by the game’s NPCs. The fun and challenge come in when players have to uncover the recipes for more potent mixtures. This discovery process will involve experimentation with various ingredient combinations, with the game providing subtle hints based on the player’s potion making skill level. As your skill level improves, so does the feedback on your mixtures, suggesting the need for more or less of certain ingredients.

Does this concept resonate with you as an engaging and enjoyable game mechanic, or does it strike you as potentially frustrating? I’m eager to strike the right balance and would really appreciate your honest feedback.

In addition, if you’re aware of any other games that have implemented a similar system, could you kindly mention them? It would be interesting and beneficial to explore how this idea has been executed elsewhere.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts!

will do that after final exams in a week, busy rn

Hi! I want to let you know I’m adding 6 expressions to the first girl, and also two new poses (its harder to create varied facial expressions with this style of semi-realistic graphics, its easier to add facial expressions to anime-style art which requires less shading). You can grab them on my discord because I plan to create a separate asset page for each character, rather than bundle them up into this one portrait pack which would be confusing.

are u sure its not an apng file? which is of a newer format. Make sure the option to show file extensions is enabled, maybe it could have a different extension that is hidden, for example “apple.png.txt” or something

Wait so games can be quarantined? Does the game creator have any way of knowing that their game was quarantined? It would be terrible if a game gets quarantined for triggering some unknown hidden filters (in this case Gay Run is quarantined due to the word gay in its title?) and the creator never gets notified, and their game is never shown!

Yes and yes, this is basically how I make different poses for the same character (without the need for a LORA). Now one limitation is that its not going to give a consistent look every time! Maybe 1 in 3 images it generates will have the same outfit and character. If an image looks great but has one or two things off (different shorts or random accessories like watches) then I still pick that image and use inpainting to make corrections.

To be honest this is not really a guide, more like very broad directions on what to do. When I have more time I’ll make a detailed guide.

Lastly, if you want to make the same character base with different outfits, simply inpaint the rest of the body while leaving the face intact, and make sure the inpaint area don’t deviate too much from the general body shape. You can also try the Inpaint Anything plugin which makes this easier.

For the rated R version, it will not be released here as this account is SFW only, but you’ll probably spot it when it gets released on a different account.

Look for the “Delete topic” button next to the Edit button of your first post in the thread.

you can get help on the game’s page, as this forum section is more generalized for itch.io questions, not specific game questions. It’s very unlikely that someone who knows the game you bought well enough to answer your question would visit this forum post.

Rewards is just an extended feature of what I mentioned, you can set a limited number of rewards and such.

yeah you can set individual price tag for each downloadable file, so upload multiple versions of your game and set a different price for each

For example if you want to offer the sound track along with the base game for an extra $3, set the base game price to $4 and the soundtrack price to $7, so when someone pays $7 they get both the soundtrack and the base game.

Now if you want to offer these DLC separately (for example both DLCs are $2 but you want it so players have to choose which DLC they get from paying just $2), then it is not possible in Itch.io in the same game page.

What you can do in this case, is to create a new game page for each DLC of your game (make sure these pages are unlisted so it doesn’t spam the itch.io search index), and in the main game page, you add the links to your DLC pages so players can go over there and purchase them separately.

yayyy finally, this bug has been bugging me for years

Good point! In the world of digital content, it’s indeed common to attribute work to a certain group or individual. If the development team’s name or the individual’s name is unique and traceable, it could theoretically be a potential source of identification. However, it’s important to bear a few things in mind:

Pseudonymity: Many developers and creators use pseudonyms or aliases for their work. This can provide an additional layer of anonymity and protection. If your team is concerned about potential risks, you might want to consider using a pseudonym for your group or avoid directly naming individuals within the team.

Dilution of threat: There are millions of games and developers out there. This vast quantity tends to “dilute” individual visibility, reducing the likelihood of being specifically singled out, especially for indie developers.

Actions vs identities: Most likely, in a situation where a game is found to be objectionable, the game itself would be blocked or removed in the problematic jurisdiction. The focus would be on restricting the content, rather than pursuing the creators.

Your safety is certainly important, and it’s wise to think carefully about how you present your work and your team to the world. But remember, the Internet provides a level of anonymity that should give you a fair degree of protection. And you can always increase that protection by using pseudonyms and being careful about what specific identifying information you include with your game.

I sincerely apologize if my earlier comments came across as dismissive or rash. I want to clarify that I’m not against your suggestion for a geoblocking feature on itch.io at all. In fact, I see the value it could bring in giving developers more control over where their content is accessible. My intention was not to belittle your concerns but to provide a perspective on the likelihood of the scenario you described, based on general practices in international internet governance. I absolutely recognize the importance of ensuring the safety and peace of mind for content creators like ourselves.

I’m sorry but with all due respect, I don’t see how the Chinese gov would have any access at all to your information (Itch.io isn’t going to have it, the only thing they may have is your IP address if you have not used VPN, but they would violate so many privacy laws if they give that to china). So unless you explicitly put in your name, phone number, address into your game or game description, there’s literally no way the Chinese gov is going to even know who you are.

It’s understandable that you’re worried about this, considering the stories you’ve heard about censorship and persecution in China. However, it’s important to clarify a few things here that may alleviate your concerns:

Anonymity and online reach: The Internet is vast and mostly anonymous, particularly in the context of a platform like itch.io. Unless you’re a very high-profile individual, the chances of a foreign government being able to identify you and take direct action against you based solely on a game you’ve uploaded to itch.io are virtually nonexistent. Especially if you practice good digital hygiene and avoid giving out personal information.

China’s censorship practices: While it’s true that the Chinese government does engage in censorship and has restrictions on religious content, they are more likely to simply block access to certain materials rather than retaliate against creators, especially those based outside of China.

Case of Salman Rushdie: The Salman Rushdie case was quite unique and involved a complex set of religious, political, and historical factors that are quite different from what you’re describing. It was also a pre-digital era event. The infrastructure of the Internet allows for a much higher degree of anonymity.

Your idea for geoblocking features on itch.io is a thoughtful one, and might be worth suggesting to the site administrators for reasons beyond your specific concern. However, based on your described scenario, it seems unlikely that the Chinese government would single you out for creating a game with Christian themes. It is more likely they would just block the game within their jurisdiction if they found it objectionable.

Remember, you can always seek legal advice or talk to a security consultant if you’re seriously worried. But hopefully, this gives you a bit more peace of mind as you continue your creative work.

Your first paid project will have to wait for at least a week for review. If you look further down the forum you’ll see a post where someone had to wait more than 17 days.

which game?

Thank you guys so much! I’ve uploaded the free asset pack here: https://fieraryan.itch.io/animated-tentacles

oh you are taking the meaning nsfw literally. I meant nsfw as the requirement to mark it as “Has sensitive content” on itch.io

(2 edits)

well my opinion is no, as it is simply a game monster, but my opinion is subjective and I do not want a ban so I’m asking just in case.

Also playing any games at work will get me fired so I guess … yes?

I made some cool animated tentacles and want to release them as a free asset, but idk if it is against the rules for NSFW. By itself, a tentacle monster shouldn’t be considered lewd right? I just wanna make sure.

Here are the animations, jeez even imgur marked them as nsfw :(

imgur link

(The asset pack will have 20 different tentacles)

I’ve uploaded the source code. You will need to use the latest Beta version for it to work in html5, otherwise it will break in html5.

I will, the code is an absolute mess right now because the process to make it work in GM was through a lot of trial and error. I’m cleaning it up.

I’m glad you like them! What kind of expressions do you want to see? closed eyes, open mouth (talking), smile, …?

We’re a loooong way from games that are completely generated by AI so I wouldn’t worry about that.

However, if we’re talking about games that use AI-generated assets like sprites and music, then those are much more likely to flood Itch.io in the near future. If you look at the new assets published on Itch.io, you’ll see not a small number of them being AI-generated, I’d say around 25-30% of new assets are made with, or assisted by AI.

I agree with magic, Itch doesn’t show NSFW games by default, it hides them all from search. You have to specifically enable the “Show content marked as adult in search & browse.” Checkbox for those games to show up. So essentially OP is complaining because they forgot to turn off a setting option that they themselves have enabled.

I’m glad you like it!

Thanks! You can make these yourself with Midjourney btw

you’re welcome!
