For a free game it is understandable you want to keep the cost under control. I would say if you want more people to play your game however, commissioning for title art, commissioning for key character portraits will be very important,, you can leave the pixel art alone and use default, and use default GUI and everything else, but character icons should be changed.  You can pick an artist that can adapt this style but take it their own way to make it seem less out of the template, people can tell the templates easily because RPG maker is well known, to set yourself apart from other games to stand out you must have customized art.  Another way is have your artist do a template of your own, so you can mix and match yourself, but that might be more expensive than just straight up character portraits, it could help your future games though.

I get that you would want to do everything yourself,  it is the long way, but respectable, if you want to, post your title art on my discord "art leveling" channel and I will give you a very detailed critique. I don't want to do that here since it's very involved and specific.  https://discord.gg/wYKghA7

As for taking further look outside of Fest, probably not at this moment since I am spending most of my current time outside of fest to finish my own game and productions. I will revisit in the future when I have free time to stream indiegames regularly again.

thank you so much, I am glad you are anticipating it. :)

Can you at least take a few screenshot of your game and share with us? Without image we are really unsure what kind of game we are looking at.

sounds good. Such a polished learning project, impressive.

This is one trippy, no, the trippiest FPS shooter I have ever seen. I meant that in a good way, might be too rainbowlike for some other streamers but I like it.

To echo Paladin, I did have a bit of trouble to gauge between my attack, attack distance, and the enemy, I also fell into some cracks on the map that may need an escape button to get out of instead of restarting,  music got repetitive very, very quickly, I ended up supplementing my own, I suggest investing on that area as well and spend time to find good stock music tracks, but overall pretty fun, I think I was looking for more options in the menu as well, hope to see updates on that when you can.

playthru: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1917168351

Playthru cut a bit short by my child raiding me. A really thoughtful game, I love the presentation and how it all come together, great art, memorable style,  a lot of info to take in as well, the lockpicking took me alittle try but I was able to understand the mechanic without much explaination on the third attempt, the characters personalities are vivid, I do look forward to learning more about it, hope to revisit later.

This is a really well made RPG maker game, great pacing and tutorials, fun storytelling, 2 hours in and I am still at the beginning of it. I can already feel the scale of the game, then again if I wasn't reading everything outloud, maybe it could have been a 30 min to 1 hr play. It has a pretty in depth card game within the rpg game, impressive dedication. I had fun voicing the characters with vivid personalities.

I do suggest, once you are able to, get professional level customized art, at least customized icons and character arts, the rest you can save on budget as they already look fine, so your massive amount of actual work in game design can shine. Right now they are either defaults from RPG maker or not professional enough for it to attract players outside of indie community, you want to strengthen those.

oh great to hear! That's testament and a milestone of your popularity as a dev. :D

I love the take on holographic arcade games from old times, I enjoyed it. Found some bugs, honestly its the same bugs Paladin met. I told him the frog one which was a funny bug, it would be fun as a hidden feature. XD There are a few others, as for this game, unless this is a learning project, you might want to change it up to parody arcades with same mechanics instead of straight up, if you want to stay safe on the copyright side, as the original games are still owned and resold by their owners. But if it's a learning or non-profit project that stays off commercial radars, its okay but still, better to be cautious.

Stream starting, some art redeem first then getting to games.

It's a really nicely done game, fun world, I enjoy the character, he has a very strong hot headed shonen vibe, I am just having some issues getting pass certain platform due to my lack of platforming skill I guess. I personally find switching commands a taaaag slow/janky due to animation not being able to cancel half way and switch via new input? It is also the same with enemy engagement, I could be wrong... I have played other platformers where controls felt more responsive to me then I know it's just me.

I played it in private but I would love to stream it later, first feedback is that I took about 2 tries to beat the entire game, I grasp the concept quickly because these arguments are very familiar to me. Even if I don't know what happened in Argentina, the same battle has been fought in the USA.

However, I have to agree it feels a bit more like an animated quiz on the knowledge of the subject at this point of development, rather than a strategy game, since it's too heavily relied on personal knowledge of the subject to beat the game, rather than having the player collect the knowledge and be educated within the game itself, such as collecting each answers, learn the story behind it, then you would use them against opponents, then it would feel more like a general strategy game.

I got the gist of picking the correct defense line to minimize the damage, but at one point the game is making me pick answers I would have never picked because it was the only one left??? (but it did damage anyway, the soap opera choice) lol

Here's my 2nd playthru:

customized pronoun, that's something we might be able to implement but need to work on merging the existing tool to our game. I won't promise anything yet. Currently we have he, she, they, I will work with my queer friend on that hoping to get that into the game for best diversity fun possible.

I am sort of a story driven, slow paced player, the main reason I don't like puzzle is due to my trauma with math class, puzzles remind me of that. There are many other players that like puzzle probably won't mind.

You can lure me into doing puzzles as a player by NOT telling me it's a puzzle, and as long as the puzzle design is one problem at a time I should be okay, then providing hints on each step and reward me after solving it with a mini story or something light hearted, even a light hearted sound would help.

Two puzzle games in this jam tortured me but I enjoyed them, they were sliding hero and so to speak, So to speak I wasn't even aware its a puzzle game until the dev mentioned it, because I enjoyed learning about the information so much, and the whole "vacation trip" aspect covered that up, and of course the famous zelda series with its puzzle dungeons are all good references of games that got me into doing puzzles and by passed my fear.

As for my habitual clicking on characters, maybe just make it partial screen instead of a full screen open that I have to click back from, that might work better visually? Then again disabling that would be easier. lol

This has to be the strangest title I have tried, but its definitely an interesting, well put together game. I am unsure what to do with my VOD because it's not the real title of your game, and the lack of cover suggest it's very much work in progress. I will keep it just on Twitch for now.

Overall a very polished game, I enjoyed the animation, fun sounds and the world, tutorial was good, the only odd thing is... the UI seems very well done and polished, but something about it is uncomfortable to read, I am unsure about how to improve it advice wise, since it's pretty established and seems to work in its own way. if others have no issue, it would just be my preference.  It's largely a thinking game so I ended up being pretty quiet on the stream.

A tiny suggestion on sound leveling default setting, make sure dialogue is the highest and others weaker, because our ears want voices and want to understand it if there's any human voice, a deep bass human voice would especially be easy to get overwhelmed by other sounds, so it needs a boost on volume while others support. I had to manually adjust it after starting the game.
