Perhaps it’s due to my unfamiliarity with the RPG genre, but I couldn’t figure out what to do with the rope coil. Consider adding more hints/tutorial during the first few minutes?

Regardless, it seems like an impressive start to something ambitious.

Developer

Hey, thanks for playing!!

If you'd like a hint: Take the rope coil to the photo spot (in the same room).

Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 6! My name's Hythrain, and I'm one of the hosts and streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live on my stream.

Time for me to leave my feedback. Yup. Now is the time.

Tenouddaten, no comments.

I probably don't need to mention the bugs, you saw all of it on my stream. :D

Here's the vod:

I am more focused on animation/story/and music development as I am from animation practice. I will just comment on a way to make the music more enduring, Stardew valley did that very smartly, he has the bgm play first, switch to ambience track, then switch back to a secondary bgm for the same, looping stages. Each of his stage where players spend a lot of time in, he had 2-3 bgms looping in that cycle, knowing that can possibly help your game as well.

It's a very interesting horror comedy game, certainly one I can recommend to my horror loving friends after you polish it more.

That's the kind of games where there is a lot to say, both good and bad.

What I liked about this game:
The unique art style
The musics
The premise that also translate into gameplay with the photos

What this game need (in decreasing order):
Polish! And a lot of polish. There are a lot of bugs in this short game.
-I'm pretty sure I saw all the photos except may be number 11, but I had only 8 unlocked at the end.
-Key items and the skill that gives SP targets all allies and can be used out of battle. Most skills can actually be used out of battle thanks to those SP.
-Burning flame don't restore SP but MP, by the way, MP are completly useless in this game.
-One case is impassable for no reason after activating the switch.
-The old librarian looks not to be the same character if interacted with from the side
-Some libraries seem to have a "under the hero" priority, making them impossible to interact with
-Probably some more I forgot
Better battles. Currently the game is super easy, any battle can be easily won by spamming the six hits skill. Some skills are also missing animations.
Replace the last placeholder graphics/SE
Give the F button an actual purpose, as currently all photos can be gained with the ok button.
Items and equips would benifit a lot from custom icons.
Give strawberry milk a price of 300 instead of 301. (Please...)

Developer

...oh boy, yeah, getting photos with the OK button is NOT supposed to happen. As is a lot of the bugs you've mentioned- MP is supposed to be completely hidden/unused, the items are not supposed to be below the player, etc. etc. etc.

We had to completely rewrite the game from scratch over the last like four days of the jam because our original game file got corrupted. That explains some of the balancing issues and the utter lack of polish- the dang thing just isn't done. We're going to keep working on it and polishing up the mechanics in particular-- but thank you for the feedback on the mechanics!

Oh, you were the ones who had to rebuilt the game just before the jam?
Well, in that case, you can count this as free QA. 🧚

Developer

Yuuuup. We did our best, but my gods, four days is not enough to make and balance a game.

Thank you for the QA and for the kind words about the aspects of the game we WERE able to finish- it's appreciated!

Quite nice horror game, the premise of playing as a photographer RPG-style isn't something I had experimented before and offers plenty of potential collecting photos and helping with puzzle solving then using the photos as a resource.

Original sprites quite creepy which I guess do fit the theme of the game. Although I would say the dungeon and rooms should look more ruin-like with some more cracks and holes and whatnot.

Speaking of graphics, not sure if a bug but the text font was very tiny when I played (it looks normal-sized in the preview pics here).

Music felt a bit repetitive but otherwise fitting, although considering it's an horror game, some segments with no music may make sense.

Combat felt somewhat basic, just Roach using his kung-fu flurry to one-shot everything except the boss after the sealed door which survived a Fury then went down to another kung-fu flurry while the protagonist kept recharging TP.

Probably should have a prompt about how to save, took me some time to figure out that was what the torches were for.

The story is the best part, falling into hell and trying to find a way out with your undead kung-fu buddy and collecting memories in the form of photographs. Also even has credits! Great work!

Developer

Thanks for your feedback!

The font issues were *absolutely not* intentional- we're rolling out a hotfix now. Should be fixed by the time Hythrain gets to us, haha.

Combat systems, and tutorialization, are still definitely a WIP. However, the clean and less-than-ruined state of the *yellow* bathhouse is intentional. :)

Thank you again for the kind words, and for playing our game!

I couldn't get very far in this. I wish there was some explanation on how to use the rope. I can get into camera mode, but I don't know how to take pictures.

Very well done introduction to the story. Had my attention and wanting more.

Developer

Ah, we can give you some pointers if you'd like- but that's really good feedback, thank you!
