Jam Host(+1)

Hello! Welcome to Feedback Quest 6! My name's Hythrain, and I'm one of the hosts and streamers for this event! This feedback is being written live on my stream.

So this is a fun concept for a game. I'm legit surprised I've never heard of a game like this until now. The vibe of the music, which made me think of 50s-60s early rock, was just fantastic for it. I liked how benches could be use to get over fences and how you could have false greenery walls. What I wasn't a fan of was being able to walk through trees and hay bales. Those should be solid.

I legit love this so far. After the event, I need to remember to make a maze. I legit am tickled by this concept. :D

Developer

Hi and thanks for hosting this feedback jam!

We’ll definitely be adjusting the collisions of the props. It’s interesting because the benches weren’t intended to be used in that way. (perhaps that’s a “feature not bug”?)

Really glad you enjoyed that concept. I wasn’t able to catch the livestream, but certainly looking forward to watching the VOD on youtube!

Hey just a quick fyi: we updated Maze Tycoon with several improvements (including added colliders on props!). We look forward to watching you build mazes on stream!

Thanks again for a successful Feedback Quest!

The core game loop seems pretty solid, probably needs a bit more variety for depth, I trust that's on the to do list, since it has the name Tycoon, I assume it's going to have an economy system as well for players and earnings.  The whole corn maze premise reminds me of farms and I would like to see more of that in the world.

Definitely looking like a game with good potential once the depth is built into it, look forward to its updates.

Awesome! More varied features are definitely in the works.

Thanks for streaming, it’s great to see that a younger generation can enjoy this game, too!

Trying to ESCAPE THE MAZES, I ended up falling out of the world. Please add any borders...

Developer

Good catch! We’ll definitely make sure to add borders.

this was fun! i ended up trying to beat my time in the maze over and over haha, got 11. something as my best time haha

this is a great concept and id love to see where you go with it!

one small critique is it kinda feels like you are walking on ice as the player sort of slides before stopping

Developer(+2)

WOW you’re fast! Yeah, we’re gonna definitely look into adjusting the feel of the movement.

Thanks for playing!

This is a really unique idea for a tycoon game and the combination with racing gameplay is actually so good! I really enjoyed racing my time and building mazes is a lot of fun too. Honestly, most of the feedback I have is fairly minor things. The movement during race mode felt a little too slippery, a little more friction on the player would make it feel more natural for me.

For building the maze, it would help a lot to have your selection be highlighted more or even have the placement preview show what the item is, as I had a hard time realizing if I had selected the correct hedge or not. I would also generally recommend using something like Q/E to rotate objects instead of a single button like R, just so you can rotate in either direction. With just one button, if you accidentally overshoot what you wanted then you have to go through all the rotations to get back to it.

That said, these were all minor things. The overall concept is fantastic and the music has a real carnival/arcade-vibe to it which fits the game perfectly. Nicely done!

Glad to hear that you enjoyed playing!

These are some great usability suggestions! I’ll definitely keep this all in mind when adjusting the movement/level editor.

I have a lot of memories making mazes in Rollercoaster Tycoon so this game really scratches that itch. It's pretty fun for a casual game. You've gotten the country fair vibes spot on. Add more scenery and it would be even more fun to play with in the editor.

Most of my suggestions are probably things you are thinking of already or are going to get around to it sometime soon, such as an options menu. I do like the quake FOV, although an FOV adjustment option might be a good idea.  Another suggestion might be to prevent saving if the maze itself is impossible.

Anyway, those are my ideas for now. As a casual game idea it's simple and perfect, and I don't know if you should deviate much from that maze focus.

Developer(+1)

The Rollercoaster Tycoon games definitely inspired this project!

I hear you about the FOV; there’s definitely going to be a setting for that in the future. Thanks for the feedback!

OK, the good first: The music in this game slaps, it's the right kind of jazzy and fun to make you feel hype to solve mazes. The graphics are also really fun, low-poly, reminiscent of a late-90s/early-00s FPS, but goofy instead of gritty.

Unfortunately, this is another game I can't play, because the FOV is so wide that it's making me seasick. I really want to enjoy it- maze solving is fun- but the way the camera moves is incredibly queasy. I'd recommend adding an FOV option in the settings - or a settings menu at all- to make it so that people who have motion sickness issues can play your game!

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed the overall vibe!

Thanks for pointing out the FOV issues. We’ll definitely make sure to add an options menu in the future.

Thanks for playing!

No problem! FOV is just fickle as hell, huh?

It was a really fun little game and I would have enjoyed it without that wrinkle- I think you've got something really cool here!

Appreciate the support! Yeah FOV was one of those things where I just got used it being so high, so it’s super helpful to have other users take a look.

Anyway, stay tuned for an update which should address your concerns!
