Game Description
In remembrance of the old flash game "Incredibots" I tried to build something similar. Construct your vehicle out of basic shapes and joints and drive it to the finish line. This was my very first game jam and I'm most proud that I finished something deliverable :)

How does your game tie into the theme?
Before you can drive towards the finish line, you need to assemble your vehicle. Hence: Assembly required :)

Love the idea, implementation. The fact that you can set a different button set for each wheel, the rotation speed, adds to the fun factor. Nicely done

Thank you for the kind words. Really appreciate it :)

This is the kind of game I'd spend hours playing as a kid.

I was fearing every level could be cheesed given I could beat the first few levels with just a wheel, but on level 6 things took a turn! I'm currently stuck on level 9, I don't know if I'll be able to beat it, but I really want to!

Very fun game!

I don't know if this is me but is there any sound on the game? I see audio options on the menu but I can't hear anything.

Some criticisms I can give:

I really would've liked the ability to move existing components, given it's hard to know where the edges of a rectangle will end up when you are building it from the center, so the additional option to move it would've helped a lot.

Also, the ability to zoom out, I felt like the camera was a bit too zoomed in for comfort, sometimes my thing would jump out of the map and I wouldn't be able to tell where it was supposed to go.

Another thing I noticed is that sometimes, while building, especially right after coming back from racing, the thing would just start wobbling uncontrollably, making it hard to select anything.

Other than that I think this game has a lot of potential, it's easy to understand, the interface is very clear and concise, and it's really really fun! I spent about an hour trying to beat it, so that should count for something :).

OMG this is so awesome! PLEASE let me know when you beat level 9. I'd love to see a screenshot of that contraption :D

I didn't have time to put in any audio, so that's how it is :)

Regarding your criticism:

I agree with all of your points. 100%.

It's incredible to me that you not only had fun playing my game, but even spent an hour playing and then took the time to write all this. You made my day! Thank you so much! <3

Probably the most literal take of the theme out of the jam submissions I’ve seen thus far. :P Very difficult to play but the sandbox nature of the game feels very fresh because you can try anything you want. Well done!

Thank you very much <3

I made myself laugh so much while making my janky vehicle! That says something! Great entry! Thank you for your work!

Developer

OMG thank you so much! I wasn't expecting many people to even try it but reading that you got some fun out of it is just absolutely wonderful <3

Congrats on your first entry!

Interesting idea. I'm not that good with physics so that's really cool how you done that.

Well done!

Developer

Thank you for your kind words. It was not easy to work with physicsbodies.... I imagined it to be a lot easier :D

Wow, awesome first game jam!

Very dynamic. I thought I had made an imba car, and then got very owned on level 4. It would have been nice with some audio, maybe zoom based on velocity so that more of the level is visible if driving fast.

Some weird stuff happening, like the car rolling out of view when going back to build mode, and maybe default values for rotating wheels and a higher force perhaps. Got a little tedious to always assing keys. The ability to resize already existing parts would also be great :)

All in all, very impressive and something to be proud of!

Developer

Thank you so much! Means a lot to me! These are all very valid points. I'll take them into my backpack onto my travels to future game jams :)

The weird behavior you described is rooted in me failing to control Rigidbody2Ds.... Which I will never try again xD

Haha, oh yes. I remember with dread long ago trying to make a lantern hanging in a chain with rigid bodies and constraints. Things went flying all around, it was madness.
I guess for this case maybe they could just be disabled on toggling mode? Not sure. But game physics can be very frustrating!

Always enjoy a game where I can build my own contraption, and this one's no exception. As already mentioned, being able to see the level ahead would be a nice for planning purposes. Would also love to see some more parts to play with to really get something crazy going. Nice job!

If you haven't already: opening it in chrome might solve the problem. Thank you for trying :)

Worth the effort to build this masterpiece ! Absolute banger, and I would really love a downloadable build for my system. Great job !

Fun game! I had a good laugh trying to make a car with square tires. It would be nice to get a preview of the level before going in construction mode in order to know what we need. Also, some pit-stop sound effects would go a long way in making building a car satisfying.

Developer

I'm incredibly happy to read that you had some fun with it. I completely agree on sounds and overviews. Thank you so much for playing!

I liked building some vehicles, but the tutorial was a bit overwhelming so it took me a bit to figure out how to control my vehicle.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback! I absolutely understand.

It was the first tutorial I ever made because it was the first game I ever presented to a larger audience. I will take your criticism into account on my next game <3
