Hey, nice game, great work!

I love the concept. The difficulty ramped up too quickly, the game needs a simpler tutorial, and maybe just less challenging gameplay overall.

The art and ambience is fantastic. I love the style with the shifting borders, it goes really well with the rainy mood.

Amazing game, especially since it was made in such a short time. It feels extremely polished, is very original, and is just fun to play. If it was built out into more of a full fledged game I'd definitely be willing to spend a couple bucks on it. The only things I think would improve the game would be a tutorial and not allowing the assassins to surround the book guy (though neither of these really take away from the game much). All in all, great game and I'll probably play it again when I have more time later on.

Developer

Thank you! I will probably polish it a bit once the jam ends.

The concept is original and very interesting.

I also like the heavy atmosphere and the graphic style.

Getting your head cut off is not pleasant but you have to admit that the effect is nice :D

If you continue the development I would say that you may have to review the collision system. It's sometimes very difficult to reach the person you've spotted, I died several times because of that.

Good job!

Developer

Thanks. Glad you liked it! I'm pretty proud of the death animation :D

The position of characters is randomized and so is their movement so it's possible they will sometimes block access to some area (though some characters avoid you and do not restrict your movement).

Gameplay is very unique and fun. I like how the timer just indicates how much time left the assassins gets more aggressive instead of losing, which just makes the situation even more tenser. Though I wish the player spawned on different locations every time.

Graphics is just perfect.

I'm pleasantly surprised this is a jam game considering how complete and polished the game is. Perhaps different locations, more levels or even a story mode would make this a must-play for me. Hope this game gets popular.

How do you make all those animations so smooth , are them 3d rendered to 2d or other ways;

by the way ,game mood is very nice but a little hard to find how to play

Developer

Glad you liked it!

These are simply 2d keyframe animations made in Unity :)

Very cool concept with a unique art style. The animations were great and the music and sound effects fit it so well. The only thing I might prefer would be less sloppy movement. It was a bit laggy and disconnected, and perhaps animations that made the walk feel more powerful or connected to the ground might have helped. However, great idea and cool execution! Hoping to see more content from you soon.

Also, please check out my game Spark: https://dino-nuggie-studios.itch.io/spark and give it a rating.

Really cool, I would have preferred more obvious animations, the pixel art shader looks really nice, but obscures details and makes it hard to differentiate for me. Maybe an option to turn off or increase density?

Overall cool idea with great execution!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! Glad you liked it.

I enjoy using the pixel shader (though it's not a shader but a simple solution to hard-cap the game resolution) as I like how it looks and it allows me to make simple sprites without much details (and I'm not much of an artist). I know some people don't like it and I thought of giving an option to disable it but I was concerned there would be too much of a difficulty difference when playing with and without it.

Loved this one! Too much people drinking and smoking instead of reading! The idea is great and really suits the theme.

To give some feedback, I think longer animations could help. And maybe you can create more variations of them.

Love the art style and animations, looks very polished. The gameplay can get a bit confusing though as I ended up just bumping to people instead of looking for clues

Submitted(+1)

When I encountered clues that were just a question mark, meaning I'd having to just run around and bump into people randomly after finding the contact with the known clue, that put a damper on things for me. But the fact that I kept playing that far into the game tells you how fun it is. For post-jam development, I think I agree with Anna that giving the player an "interact" action to find contacts with wrong guesses making you lose time (attracting the attention of assassins) would be a good way to cut down on random guessing tactics, but if you do make changes to penalize random guessing then you'll probably want to get rid of good guys with unknown actions.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! Glad you had fun.

If you have 2 clues that means that each contact will be doing both actions, each 50% of the time, not that there are 2 contacts one clue for each contact. I have it explained in the game description though I definetly should have done a proper in-game tutorial explaining it.

So if one of the clues is unkown you still can find someone doing that action 50% of the time and based on them see what the other action is, no guessing needed.

Oh, thanks for clarifying, I went back and finished the game now knowing that

Amazing concept! The art is really nice, it can get pretty tense when the timer gets lower, was a tad confused but I saw the comment below with a good strat and was fine after that, great work!

I’d appriciate it if you could check ours out too!

Great entry, congratulations! I loved every detail about this game it has fantasitc concept and I felt that it fitted the theme really well!

It's really enjoyable and I would love to see this one beeing further developed. Bonus points for twist ending - great job :D

This is a really cool game. I had a lot of fun paying. Nicely polished and good variety in levels. It was easy to pick up and grasp the concept. There were some tense moments and I like how on timed missions, you still have a chance when time runs out. There's a lot of potential with this to go far.

Developer

Thanks a lot :)

Wow, This Is A Really Cool Game, And I Would Even Know It Was Made For A Game Jam If It Was To Be Up On Steam Or Something Like That ;P

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot!

The concept was cool and the variety of animations is super impressive! As others have said it's a bit confusing-- even with the extra directions, and talking to the book guy, it felt like the best strat was just to bump into lots of people... maybe a more specific "accuse" action would help?

Developer

Thank you!
Yeah, i'm aware that just brute forcing your way can often be better (timewise, definetly not death-wise ;) ). That's what the assasins are for - to disincentivise just randomly bumping into people. But then you just try again so it's not a big setback. The solution I'm considering is having a limited amount of 'lives' that once depleted force you to start from the beginning. Having to directly guess a person would work as well though it would require more setup.

Anyway, the intended playstyle of observing the crowd and avoiding bumping into people you are unsure about definetly works and is way more fun :)

A little hard to figure out, but really cool concept.

really interesting with a good atmosphere and tension.

At first, it was a little hard to figure out, what to do!
