Use of the limitation
I incorporated the limitation by making such that when a fireball hits my player, it spawns a statue at the exact same position of the Collison, but the game doesn't end there and the player is free to move and collect runes to increase the game-score, however if the the player accidently goes through any of the statues, it dies and the run ends. Hence, the player creates their own obstacle, making them their own enemy.

Amazing visuals. The statues were way less of a problem than the fireballs in the beginning though at higher scores that will start flipping so intelligent design use of limitation there. An idea I had for some reason is to treat the statues like weeping angles from Doctor Who (when your back is turned to them, have them inch toward you slightly). I feel like that may add a bit more zing to the gameplay. Great work overall!

Fun little game _(:3JZ)_ I used a "status piling up" strategy to absorb many fireballs while still leave a large place to move XD ( I got score 22, maybe not very high tho)

Some bugs: when the player died, it's stil moveable. And the player can fall off the platform XD

However, the model looks great! I guess it will be used for your later games ✓

The visuals are great and the concept is interesting but there seems to be a few issues with the game.

  • In the main menu, the transparent black background doesn't cover the entire screen (maybe because my display is 16:10 ?)
  • The game doesn't stop when the player dies, so it is theoretically possible to achieve an infinite score by continuing the game after dying.
  • The player can fall off the game area, effectively soft locking the game.

This is a fantastic game!  It's visually stunning (especially for a weekend-long game jam project!), and the gameplay is simple but addictive!  At first I wasn't sure how I felt about the fact that the fireballs were more or less inescapable (as some other people have commented), but as the game went on I actually came to appreciate it!  It made me focus less on avoiding the fireballs (since doing so was basically impossible) and focus more on avoiding my own death statues, which truly made it feel like I (and not the fireballs) was my own worst enemy.  Excellent use of the limitation, and excellent game overall!

And yeah you're right that was my original intention while making this, that the fireball isn't your worst enemy it's You, and how you move and place statues as the game progresses.

Very good presentation! Love love love the art. A bug I found is when you fall off the platform, you fall forever and don't die, which prevents the game from resetting, which is annoying. 

Interesting mechanic, although there seems to be a very obvious and optimal way to play the game (stick to the edges as much as you can). As another commentor said, I think the game needs more variety and interest to engage players.

Yeah i can't believe i forgot to remove that bug its my bad. Actually it was 4 am when i finally finished all the UI stuff and i just wanted to go to bed, but ill update it asap.

Here goes a small review. :)

Main thoughts:

  1. The mechanic is interesting, forces you to think of how to position yourself and ‘build’ pathways.
  2. Did you make the fireball almost inescapable on purpose? This is interesting, as this means you have to deal with one more statue each time.
  3. The game is both visually nice, and playability is smooth, although not necessarily easy to spot exactly whether you will collide with a statue or not. This may have to do partially with your choice of a vegetation field on the ground, as seeing the feet/base is critical in isometric 3D. Maybe add a circle or disc at the base of the character and possibly statues?
  4. The game does well at its intention! Maybe some other side ideas would have helped give it more variety and interest over time.
  5. Extension idea: if you guide a fireball towards a statue, it destroys it.

Various remarks:

  1. Kind of a funny cartoony hovering effect before falling into the void. ;) No failure afterwards?
  2. You can still move once defeated.

The concept is interesting, and apart some minor technical gameplay details that could help, I think your main focus should be adding more variety and mechanics. (The statue-destroying fireballs is just one idea, there is surely a lot of possibilities!)

First of all thanks a lot for playing the game and for sharing your views, it means a lot! I really appreciate your inferences and yes i did wanted to make fireball inescapable after a while so that the player may face a continuous challenge of getting one additional statue added evert few secs, but i think i might have made it too frustrating!

Apart from that, thanks for pointing out the vegetation problem  its a big deal not to be able to see the distance b/w the player and the statue, so ill figure something out to fix that issue.

And yeah i thought about destroying a statue if the player guides the fireball towards it...i first thought that could make the game less challenging but maybe it would make it long lasting.

Aaand lastly yeah im sorry for the "falling into the void" bug i shouldve fixed it ages ago so ill get on it!

Don’t feel sorry, those things happen! ;)
And the main problem is not being able to restart (I had to relaunch the game); I thought the ‘cartoony hovering effect’ was funny actually, if you make it even more egregious with a sharper difference between hovering and falling and add a classic cartoon ‘gliding’ sound, I would find it great. X) Although this may not be the kind of atmosphere you are looking for, so choose as you see fit!

Yeah i agree the game soft-locking itself must've been annoying, I'll handle that. I could actually keep the falling animation and then terminate the game after the player disappears from the screen i think it would look a little better with some SFX ;)

nice idea and very cool visually, but imo the fireballs moving at exactly the player's speed is a bit too harsh. also two things that could be good to see are respawning if you fall off the map and a button to exit to menu
