Impressive entry! I had a lot of fun with this. Unfortunately I encountered a bug where my dice went through the wall and were unrecoverable. But aside from that it was a fun experience!

A very addictive game! I gave this game a very high score. It has a simple but attractive concept, it’s very well completed, and the dungeon is also very well done!

One of my favorite games of the Jam so far! I really enjoyed the mechanics and concept!

I think that with a couple of things could become a full game:

  • Improved controllers, make it more "thight" and "heavier"
  • The camera sometimes switches too fast between rooms and is a little weird

I enjoyed the game! I had some difficulties playing it at the start but that was very likely because my skills were to bad for this game... :D I also really liked the sounds!

Developer

Thank you for the comment! This was our sound guy's first time recording sound effects for the game, and we're very happy to hear you liked the sound design 😄

Heyoooo.

Theme-ing and art style is great, I love the look of the characters! I felt that this was a huge merit of the game.

Game wise, I personally feel that the character was too fast or slide-y for a platformer.  I loved the dash mechanic though (Celeste? :D).

There was this one bug however.. When I die and I automatically restart a game, the dice pickups do not respawn so I have to restart the game haha.

Great work guys, cheers!

Developer

Thank you for the comment! The dice actually stay in the level whenever you die. You can pick them up right where you left them. Is it a bug? More so an intentional feature, since coding in a method to auto-collect the dice in the world would've taken quite a bit of time given some of the shortcuts we took during development.

Fairly well presented and fun for a while, but the controls are too tricky for my aging brain! Jumps aren't really high enough, dash is a bit too fast, and you lose all momentum when touching anything. Just traversing the level is frustrating rather than fun for me.

Fits the theme pretty well, what with the haunted casino, throwing dice as weapons etc. Looks quite nice too, and has a retro Jet Set Willie vibe to it.

Well done for getting a working game out at all - as we all know that's a genuine achievement in itself!

Good Idea and nice pixel art hero:)
I think aim would be perfect to throw dice:)

Developer

Thank you for the comment! In hindsight, we should have mentioned it in the tutorial, but you can aim with the mouse cursor! The only caveat is that it has to be within the game window.

Nice pixel art and amazing music! The controls were a bit unresponsive, but the dash mechanic is great!

I'm glad you had an in-game tutorial! So much better than having to look at a description! The art and sounds were nicely done and the game mechanics such as wall jumping and dashing were pretty satisfying! Nice work!

Thank you for the comment! We were inspired by Cuphead for the tutorial level and Metroid everywhere else haha

Please note that the in-browser version of the game uses an older build that's easier than the normal game. Download the .exe for a challenge!

The game was very cute. There were a few points where I got softlocked and could not complete the map, and the music is a little bit repetitive.  But I love Johnny Bones!
